To date, more than 23 homes have been built or remodeled by CCF to suit the needs of wounded Veterans and their families.

Since the 9th Annual Golf Classic, CCF has completed the home for U.S. Army Specialist Michael Liscomb and his deserving family. Michael and his wife, Desiree, are excited about their new home, and couldn’t wait to get settled in. “We're very appreciative of all the time, effort, and hard work that everyone has contributed, and we can’t thank them enough.” says Michael.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Miles Carrington House is currently under construction set for completion in spring 2021.

During deployment in Afghanistan, U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Miles was severely wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit his vehicle. Matthew miraculously survived despite sustaining injuries, including a pilon fracture in his right ankle, a broken hyoid hone, partially torn retina, torn ligaments in both shoulders, broken left hand, and ultimately the loss of his left leg.

Matthew went through over 25 surgeries and spent months at Walter Reed. It took over six months for his amputated leg to heal enough for him to walk. Learn more about his story here: https://carringtoncf.org/fundraisers/carringtonhouse2020/meet-our-veterans/matt-miles/

U.S. Army Sergeant Matthew Melancon is one of our Carrington House recipients this year. He is currently an athlete and motivational speaker, Matt believes in the power of attitude and perspective.

While on his second deployment to the Middle East, U.S. Army Sergeant Matthew Melancon’s truck was hit by an IED. For two years, he underwent 24 intense reconstructive surgeries to save his legs, but in July 2013, he developed a life-threatening MRSA infection in his left leg, resulting in amputation. In 2014, he had his right leg amputated.

Corporal Michael Jernigan, one of Carrington House’s newest Veterans to be accepted into the program, proudly served with Company E 2nd Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment. While on deployment in Iraq, On August 22, 2004, Michael's platoon was on patrol when it was hit by two 155mm artillery shells buried under the ground. Michael suffered life-changing injures that day that required 30 major surgeries in the first 12 months. 45% of his cranium was crushed in, he had two fingers reattached to his right hand, and both his right hand and knee required reconstruction.

He has turned the most traumatic experience of his life into a life filled with a new purpose; to help others gain their vision. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all, Michael. Everyone’s safety is our top priority and that’s why we have decided to forgo an in-person event and are currently exploring the possibility of an alternative program for the 10th Annual CCF Golf Classic, originally scheduled to take place on October 14th at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, CA.

Be sure to check back in the coming weeks for more information!

Every year, Special Olympics Indiana (https://soindiana.org/) hosts the Polar Plunge. Teams or individuals sign up to jump in chilly Eagle Creek, on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Four brave men from the Carrington Office in Westfield, IN, location recently participated in the 2020 Polar Plunge – jumping into a creek in the middle of winter to raise funds for Special Olympics Indiana.

These hardy souls were (pictured above, left to right): Stephen Shawhan, Francisco Guzman, Scott Sorenson, John Petzke.

The coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted families across the United States. Many people live paycheck to paycheck, and through no fault of their own they now find themselves out of work and struggling to make ends meet. As a result, more people are going hungry.

Supporting a local food bank with non-perishable food items is now more important than ever. Many food banks are having a hard time meeting the needs of the people who count on them – some for the first time – in order to feed their families.

Thank you for any contributions you can make to these organizations in your community.

Working Wardrobes Reschedules 3rd Annual Walk in Their Shoes to Support Veterans

5K Walk Hosted by Orange County Non-Profit Rescheduled to Saturday, September 12, 2020

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (March 12, 2020): Originally planned for Saturday, March 28, 2020, the 3rd Annual 5K Walk, Fun Run, and Finish Line Festival to support veterans is being rescheduled to Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Lakeview Park.

This morning, Gov. Gavin Newsom joined state health officials and recommended the cancellation of gatherings of 250 or more people across the entire state, escalating the effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“Out of an abundance of caution, deep respect for our community partners and belief that we must do the right thing, today Working Wardrobes decided to reschedule the Walk until Saturday, September 12, 2020, when we will honor our veterans at a time and date that accords with the National Day of Remembrance.” said CEO/Founder Jerri Rosen.

Thank you to everyone for your support and we will continue to #RebuildWW together. Please visit our website and sign up to receive emails here, www.workingwardrobes.org

For more questions regarding the Walk and registration please contact Marissa Chery, [email protected] or call (714) 210-2460.

This month, CCF is proud to give an update on the Carrington House home for U.S. Army Specialist Michael Liscomb.

Construction on the Liscomb home began this past October. The storage sheds that were initially on the property were demolished and removed. Excavation for the basement and foundation began at the end of October and has since been completed. The home has been put in place and the interior phase has begun. Weather permitting, we expect to complete the project by mid-March. The Liscomb family has said that the house ushers in a new sense of freedom for a new chapter of their lives.

Assalamo alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh to all my dear friends, brothers and sisters in Islam. Kindly, I need your attention and some time to read this post till the end. Wish you all are enjoying Ramadan by the Grace of Allah, the Almighty and Exalted. May Allah bless us all and May He make this Ramadan to be the new beginnings of our lives. Aameen. Firstly, I will start with some Hadeeth regarding charity, donations, Zakaat or Sadaqah. 1. Prophet SAW said: Whoever helps his brother in his time of need, Allah will be there in his time of need ( Sahih Muslim ). 2. The most beloved to Allah are those who are most beneficial to the people ( Mu'jam Al-Awsat 6192). 3. Be merciful to those on the earth and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you ( Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1924). 4. Whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of discomforts of the Day of Resurrection (Sahih Bukhari). 5. The believers' shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity (At-Tirmidhi). 6. The Prophet SAW said: The good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are - knowledge which he learned and spread; a righteous son whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur'an that he leaves as a legacy; a mosque that he built; a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death. Charity, for which the expression used in the Holy Qur'an is: "Spending out of what God has given you", means using your energy, talent, resources, money, possessions, or whatever else, to help and do good to those in need. And of course you all have better ideas than me on this topic. I would like to have a few minutes from u to read this article and hope am not wasting your time. I am Bushra Nuzaifa from Bangladesh and a very old member of this group. I was willing to write you all about it but I was too demure and hesitated because of the restrictions from my family members and relatives. Especially my relatives has forbidden me to do so as they think it is a matter of embarrassment. We are 5 in members (family). We lived in Saudi Arabia (KSA) for 18 years and currently we are in Bangladesh since 10 months except my father. We had to leave KSA because of the laws and conditions over there of which most of you are aware of. Before we leave our father unfortunately, he got into an accident and broke his right hand. On the other hand, our luggage were all packed and we had to leave him there in hope that Allah will take his care. After that we contacted him few times but now it has been 7 months we have no words from him. Please, remember him in ur prayers. Here, in Bangladesh, we yet couldn't adjust ourselves to the new environment; as a result leading us to sicknesses then and now. We had few money in our bank of which most of them we used in KSA and some in Bangladesh. And now we don't have anything left but yes, we received loans from our relatives. Now we stay in a rented house. And we are not sure about our education whether we will be able to continue with it. I don't have words to explain you more how hard time we are facing. And now I took this opportunity to write you because I hope none of you will underestimate any good deeds in this blessed month. Finally, I would like to ask for your help. Just a small amount of donation can help us. If anyone of you are willing to assist me then please make your donation here. This is my account number: Name: AKTER UDDIN CHOWDHURY Account number: 0703-02700452 Name of he bank: BANK ALFALAH LIMITED Address: Agrabad, Chittagong, Bangladesh. Thank you in advance for your contribution. You have no idea how much it means to me to have your support.
