Today, we're raising funds to help our Ebola Survivor Corps initiative, as well as some potential involvement in El Salvador. Would you consider a small gift for #GivingTuesday to help us reach our $1,000 goal?

Today is #GivingTuesday! Facebook and PayPal are matching donations up to $7 million today. Would you consider a small (or large!) donation to our parent organization, HDCP to help us continue our work mobilizing underserved communities and marginalized groups to organize and agitate for improved health and wellness? Our goal is $1,000 today. We'd be grateful for your help!

So true! Investment in primary health systems in low resource areas is the best way to prevent outbreaks of diseases like Ebola from becoming pandemics.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former president of Liberia: "Investing in primary healthcare is the best way to detect and stop local outbreaks before they become global pandemics."

Welcome to the First War Zone Ebola Crisis

This hasn't been much in the news but there is a an Ebola outbreak currently ongoing in Congo. Unlike any previous outbreak, it unfolding in an extremely unstable area, effectively a war zone, complicating response efforts beyond imagination. Statement Condemning U.S. Government Actions on the Border

HDCP, as a united front, condemns the U.S. government’s actions and calls for an immediate reunification of all families seeking asylum that have been forcibly separated. We will continue to call our representatives, continue to march, and continue to raise up the voices of those who need to be heard until these families are reunited. #FamiliesBelongTogether

Congrats to our Ebola Survivor Corps project manager, Sallieu, on the new addition to his family!

Our team in Sierra Leone just got a *little* bit bigger. Sallieu, our project manager on the ground in SL, and his wife just brought a beautiful son into the world. Congratulations!

May I strongly encourage a donation here? PIH has a strong network of medical care facilities in Haiti, which will be vital in combating outbreaks like cholera following the hurricane. Please help, every dollar matters. And, so you know, 94% of the money goes to the actual project. Huge.

Partners In Health is a global health organization relentlessly committed to improving the health of poor & marginalized people.

Field Report: Week 4 (Wrap-Up)

Dr. Nell Bond wraps up her time in Sierra Leone, leaving Ebola Survivor Corps in a prime position to serve as part of the Ebola recovery landscape.

Week four started on a sad note, the first case in over 150 days has been reported in Tonkolili district, neighbor to Koinadugu. The case was a man traveling from the capitol, Freetown (a densely populated area where Ebola continues to flare up), who visited three health centers before he died and w…

Field Report: Week 3 (Part 2): We have survivors!

In the latter part of Week 3, Dr. Nell Bond identified and hired the Ebola survivors that will serve as Ebola Survivor Corps's Survivor Health Advocates. Watch the video!

I left off my last post discussing the fruitful meetings with local partners in Kumala and the lingering questions regarding EVD survivor care in this next recovery and rebuilding phase of the outbreak.  Now it was time to identify survivors and get started! We talked to Ibrahim Jalloh, the Survivor…

Field Report: Week 3 (Part 1)

The first part of Week 3 was another big one as Dr. Nell Bond set up our Ebola Survivor Corps initiative in Sierra Leone.

Week three was another big one. It started off with our inaugural trip to Kumala. Kumala is the headquarter town of Neini Chiefdom, and as I mentioned in my last post, over 94% of EVD survivors in the entire district of Koinadugu reside in Neini Chiefdom. This makes it an obvious choice to

Field Report: Week 2

Dr. Nell Bond's second field report from Sierra Leone as she set up the Ebola Survivor Corps project in Sierra Leone.

Started off Week 2 with a (very important) meeting with the District Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Moses. Meeting with the DMO is crucial—if he doesn't like what you're trying to do, you're not working in his district. Dr. Moses is really great; he's a young guy who is really thoughtful and motivated…

Our first field report from Dr. Nell Bond as she began setting up our Ebola Survivor Corps project in Sierra Leone.

Arrived in Sierra Leone on Saturday July 4th. Happy Independence Day, America! My bag, however, decided to celebrate US independence by hanging out in France for a couple of days. First encounter with the specter of Ebola was at the airport. Airline staff (wearing gloves) direct you to fill out a fo…
