From our wonderful Alexandria-Three Missionaries:

Thank you for accepting the invitation to be a part of the Gathering of Israel! We live in a time in which we are blessed to have technology as a tool to spread the gospel.
For that reason, we are inviting you to be part of our local ‘Come Unto Christ’ Virginia pages! Come Unto Christ - Mount Vernon Virginia We want you to be able to share your experiences, stories and testimonies with those who are waiting for the truth but are only “kept from the truth because they know not where to find it" (D&C 123:12).
The content we are inviting you to make can include photos, scriptures, quotes from prophets as well as videos that show your faith and testimony for those who are not of our faith to see and be edified from. The following 9 guidelines will help you create inspiring content.

1. If you create or want to share a video, it needs to be 1.5 minutes or less.
2. Please make sure that when you introduce yourselves that you use either only your first name, or refer to yourselves by “Brother or Sister” followed by your last name. Please discourage the use of the name of the Ward or Area that you are in.
3. Ask permission from every person that is in the photo or video that you want to publish.
4. Be sure not to mention the name of any other religion, church or denomination (remember to put yourself in their shoes).
5. Try to avoid terminology that is unique to the church (for example: covenant, talks, patriarchal blessing, etc) unless you are going to define the word in your post.
6. Pray for inspiration and follow the Spirit.
7. Be creative and include your family as well.
8. Remember that you carry the name of Jesus Christ!
9. Let your testimony shine!!

Thank you!!

Sunday, Aug 2 Email on In Person Meetings

We have exciting news! You will have the opportunity to return to in-person meetings to worship and partake of the Sacrament. While these services will be different from anything we have experienced before, we are confident they will be filled with the spirit as we gather together around the Sacrament table. It is also our desire to continue to hold meaningful and spiritually enlightening Zoom meetings during the pandemic. Our prayer is that whether you are in the King St Chapel or at your home, we all are edified and blessed.

We will be meeting at the King Street Building (2810 King St) every other week starting on August 9. Please sign up to attend the Noon sessions here: (10 a.m. Session is full) https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F4FA4AA2AABFC1-alexandria. If the need is there, we will hold additional in-person meetings during the day.

It is important for you to sign up in advance if you want to attend in person because we cannot have more than 25 people in the building at a time. If you do not sign up, please don’t come to the church.

10 a.m.

The building and sacrament trays will be thoroughly cleaned between each meeting.

Here is what you need to know:
· We are following all safety and cleaning protocols as established by the CDC, state and local health departments and of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
· If you are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, please participate via zoom
· Masks are required in the building – including speakers, those administering the sacrament, giving prayers and those conducting
· We will be social distancing – 6ft from everyone who is not in your Household - no hugging, handshaking or chatting in lobby or parking lot.
· Please enter in the main front doors so that we don’t contaminate more of the building
· The ADA entrance will be accessible for those who need it
· As you enter, please fill the chapel front to back in available pews
· Tithing envelopes cannot be handed to Bishopric – please make your donation online or by mail
· There will not be any signing, just listening to music.
· Doors will open 15 minutes early, please don’t be earlier than that

Finally, if you have any questions, personal requests or other concerns, please contact a member of the Bishopric and we will do all we can to help. We love you and want to make worshipping and recommitting yourself to Christ each week as peaceful as an experience as possible.

Our love,

Are You Prepared? What's Next?

Dear Members of the Mount Vernon Virginia Stake,

First of all, let me extend a welcome to those who have moved into the stake (or moved between wards in the stake)! About 200 people have settled into new living places in the last 2-3 months, and we look forward to getting better acquainted!

If we are prepared, we shall not fear. An admonition and a promised blessing. Preparation comes in many time frames. Immediate, near/medium term, long term, and eternal. May I suggest some preparations we all should be making?

Immediate

Our area is now under a Tropical Storm Watch for Tropical Storm Isaias, for the next 48 hours. Please monitor weather channels, media, and county / city alert networks. The concerns include high and gusting winds, heavy rainfall, storm surges, and flash flooding. With this notice, what preparations can you make to reduce risk to your life, property, and neighborhood?

Near-to-Medium Term

COVID-19 continues to interrupt what used to be our normal routines. The economic impact continues to disrupt employment, supply chains, wages and incomes. Plan-ahead schedules (school, vacations, starting work, etc.) also continue to be disrupted. What adjustments can you make to increase your adaptability and resilience to these diversions from what were our norms? How can you regain peace and comfort, along with spiritual guidance in your life?

The wards have conducted "test runs" to see how to offer limited-attendance in-person sacrament meetings. Bishops have shared learnings and best practices across the stake. I have confidence that if you choose to attend an in-person sacrament meeting, you will see all the measures in place to be sure you have a safe and clean worship space. This is an opportunity, not an expectation. We urge you to follow all the recommended precautions, including not attending if you're in a vulnerable demographic (age, health conditions, recent travel or exposure to groups, not feeling well, etc.). Please check with your own ward to see what the schedule of in-person meetings will be during August, as well as the zoom and/or other virtual meetings and events. Stay focused on your spiritual well being, at home, and connected with your ward.

Near-to-Long Term

As you know, I felt impressed a couple of months ago to invite every member of our stake, age 15 and older, to participate in the Personal Finance course offered as part of the Self Reliance program. Wards are moving forward to be sure there is an opportunity for everyone to join a facilitated group. I feel there are many good reasons to participate in the course, regardless of your personal situation. The group-shared process to assess your present and desired financial health and then, through exercising faith, to know how to adjust your present financial behaviors and plans, will be a blessing to you. Maybe you'll adjust how to use your money, how to invest your money, how you regard debt, how you talk with family members (whether children, college-bound students, or aging parents) about the principles, how you prepare for unexpected emergencies in your own life (or a family member or friend), and/or how you view God's blessings in your life. Whatever you learn from participating will be a blessing to you, a further preparedness in your life that will reduce anxiety and fear.

Eternal

As the church prepares for the re-opening of temples around the world, including the re-dedication and re-opening of the Washington DC Temple (next year sometime, dates unknown), what are you doing to prepare yourself for the covenants, ordinances, and family history work that lead you to Eternal Life (that is, life with God and life as God lives)?

If you have not been to the temple for your own endowment, or for sealing to your spouse, what will you do to be ready to do so as soon as possible?

If you have not renewed your expired temple recommend, what do you need to do to obtain a new recommend? (Procedurally, we have just reminded all the bishoprics of the steps to conduct interviews virtually and then provide the new temple recommend for signing and recording -- so they are all ready and waiting for you!).

If you have paused or slowed your work on Family History, what can you do to resume and/or accelerate your efforts in finding ancestors' names to take to the temple and offer them the opportunity, through your proxy work, to accept the covenants and ordinances necessary for their exaltation and your family linkage?

* * * * *

My dear brothers and sisters! The work of the Lord continues, and is hastening. The Holy Ghost can comfort us and buoy us up, thereby helping us bear our personal anxieties and stresses, as we turn to Christ and stay actively engaged in doing good in our own lives (by preparing and acting, by going and doing) and in doing good for others, showing through our actions that we indeed love others as the Savior loves us.

Let's GO and DO! (1 Nephi 3:7)

Sincerely,

President Keith Davey

Great talk and advise.
Dear Ward Members, In light of the news that the novel Coronavirus is spreading and has now affected some parts of the Fort Belvoir military community, we remind members to make smart decisions given their own personal health risks. We encourage you all to make decisions that you feel are best for your family and situation. Some of you may choose not to attend today, or may choose to attend a different sacrament meeting. And that is OK. We will be holding sacrament meeting at the Mt Vernon ward today at the regularly scheduled time. We will be doing our best to ensure that the sacrament is administered with all appropriate care. But, after consultation with the ward council, it has been decided by the Bishop to cancel the second hour of church and the scheduled linger longer. Finally, please remember to follow appropriate and reasonable safe-guards when going out in public and interacting at church. For the time being, we have been asked not to shake hands at church and to take other extra precautions. Please be respectful of these guidelines. All the best, Abram Ellis

Our very own Alexandria 3rd Ward member, Harry Muhelstien, will participate in a multi-faith youth choir! This choir will perform as a part of the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington (IFCMW) annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Multi-Faith Commemoration in January 2019. The Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington’s 2019 Martin Luther King Multi Faith Commemorative Event will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm. It is being held at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church (NYAPC), located at 1313 New York Ave. Washington, DC 20005. The Metro Center and McPherson Square metro stations on the red line are only a 5-minute walk from the church. As part of this event, the multi-faith choir directed by Mrs. Hurrunnessa Fariad will be performing two songs – We Are The World by Michael Jackson and Salaam by Mosh Ben Ari. Let us support the David and Megan Muhlestein family, especially their talented son Harry! It would be great to have our Ward members attend! We all very much appreciate Harry’s desire to contribute his talents to this wonderful event, and hope it will be a meaningful experience for all involved.
Take Ft. Hunt Rd to get to church today. Detours on GW Parkway this morning, but you can get to the church. Give yourself a little extra time this morning.
