National VOAD's Call to Action Following the Killing of George Floyd & Ahmaud Arbery

In 1970, six faith organizations and the American Red Cross came together to address inequities of disaster response in the U.S. and formed National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD).

Progressing forward 50 years – NVOAD has become a venue for Cooperation, Communication, Coordination, and Collaboration (4Cs) across all faith communities, secular organizations, local/state/territory/federal government agencies, and private sector businesses.

NVOAD recognizes that communities can be devastated by human caused events or natural hazards; and that a disaster is anything that an individual or community cannot recover from on its’ own.

RACISM is a human caused disaster. The deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery were murder. We all must participate in this nationwide response! Our communities cannot recover without intentional ongoing directed response to racism. Lack of action is complicity. There can be no Peace without Justice – no recovery without resources.

National VOAD promises to be engaged.

Sharing some good news today: Families across Hopi and 10 Navajo communities recently received our deliveries of diapers, baby wipes and other essentials. On remote reservations, diapers are nearly as hard to get as food and water! Thanks Baby2Baby for donating these high-need items to our Native-serving nonprofit and easing the stress for tribes affected by #COVID-19!

I/we hope this can be of help with your VOAD efforts: #TotalAssetVisibility Anyone needing help rebuilding after a disaster (or for any other needs including food sharing and delivery, waste prevention, etc) can create their C'8 profile and Aid Needed post(s) here www.c8coordinate.com (work in progress) and those wanting to help can create their C'8 Aid Offer posts for direct donations as well. C'8 can also be used to coordinate things like restaurant, grocery store, pharmacy, etc deliveries to help reduce the need for people to leave their homes for the basics and it can be used to coordinate mobile medical professionals for at-home Coronavirus testing to reduce the need for people to leave their homes for testing as well, further empowering social distancing. What #AidCoordinationPlatform do you use and is it free, available to all, 100% transparent and purely altruistic? Is it an efficient and effective force-multiplier like C'8? Introducing C'8 - Coordinate, a purely altruistic, free and available to all international disaster (and other) aid coordination platform that unites all aid givers with all disaster victims and communities in need as well as with aid materials suppliers and the rest of the world that might be moved to give aid in some way from a distance. Among other things, C'8 facilitates direct, specific, immediate, zero overhead, 100% transparent aid donations in a game-changing way. Where Facebook is social, LinkedIn is business, etc, C’8 is one purely altruistic unified platform for aid coordination. I/we invite you to begin to use C'8 to help those at the top of your list of people you'd like to see receive aid/more aid.
Thank you to National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) for everything you do and have done to bring help to those in need. I admire you and want to send you some smiles! #StayWell
Any other VOADs out there building or using a wiki to collaborate on resource identification and sharing? We have started one for Santa Clara County and are thinking it would help avoid duplication of effort at higher levels. This is not for the public, it is for our participating agencies. They can choose what they might copy and share on their own sites. Big initial focus is on emotional/spiritual care resources -- sites, documents, on-line training; especially those that are free to access or share.
I'm offering free, Zoom-based training: Resilience & Psychological First Aid. Have focused on CERT and now aiming to support more of the voluntary agency people. Next session is Monday, 3 pm Pacific time, but it will be repeated (click "Follow" on the event page to be notified). Includes tips on working by phone and video during shelter-in-place. My background for this is on the announcement page.
Are any of our VOADs using a Wiki to organize pandemic resources? This is seeming like a good idea for such a long-term event.

Is VOAD real or a scam? I volunteered, paid for background and never heard from anyone. Is it an organization to make people rich through donations. I have an international business where all profits go to charity www.fishingcolombia.com. What does VOAD do other than take donations. Anyone can start a tax free organization and pay themselves a high salary. Is this VOAD? Very disappointed!
