Effectively Regulating Emotions as Employees Return to the Office

Managing emotions during a crisis affects people differently. Returning to work after a pandemic is new territory for everyone, and we must have patience with ourselves and others while we navigate the process.

Employers will need to educate supervisors and managers of the signs of emotional distress and encourage staff to seek treatment when necessary.

Read more from Marife Mendoza:

In addition to sharing the safety protocols of the new normal, it is important to conduct an awareness briefing session about managing emotions during the pandemic.

Our Story

In 1943, 14 training professionals gathered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to form the American Society of Training Directors.

Since then, the world has changed in vast ways, and so have we as an organization, now called the Association for Talent Development.

ATD's members come from more than 120 countries and work in public and private organizations in every industry sector. ATD supports the work of professionals locally with more than 125 chapters, international strategic partners, and global member networks.

For the past 75 years, we have supported those who develop talent in the workplace to help create a world that works better.

As we look back on our rich tradition and history, we are committed to enabling a bright future for our global community of talent development professionals.

How?

  • Our professional development opportunities—courses, certifications, conferences, on-site trainings, and other offerings—pave the way for your career growth and the creation of learning cultures in your organization and beyond.

  • Our content provides trusted and vetted tools and trends for the industry through research, books, TD magazine, webcasts, resource centers, and more.

  • Our community showcases local leadership through our chapters, international partners, and member networks. We provide the opportunity to expand your network and grow your influence.
  • We believe that you can, and should, invest in yourself and in others. And we have the resources and expertise to help you achieve greater impact in your work.

We invite you to join our global ATD community.

Dear L&D Colleague- In an effort to advance the Learning and Development (L&D) field, Smarter People Planning is conducting a crowd-sourced L&D SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis. The purpose of the L&D SWOT analysis is to gain diverse insights into L&D during an incredibly disruptive time. A summary report will be published on LinkedIn to enable stronger L&D planning, decision-making, and benchmarking. We are defining L&D as anyone responsible for any aspect of workforce development, talent management, an L&D vendor/partner, or an independent consultant. Survey is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LandDSWOT Feel free to forward this post to any L&D colleagues within or outside of your organization. As a thank you for participating, we will email you a copy of a detailed final report that will not be offered publicly. Also, we will randomly select five (5) respondents to receive a copy of my award-winning book “Be More Strategic in Business: How to Win through Stronger Leadership and Smarter Decisions” co-authored with Diana Thomas, former McDonald’s CLO. Thanks for your continued passion and commitment to the L&D field. If you have any questions please contact me directly.

If your company has cancelled business travel and is transitioning to video conferencing and virtual training sessions, to help make this situation a little better for everyone, I want to offer you a free license of our new software. Send me a message if you think you’d qualify. Learn more about how the software will help you below👇👇 Ziotag is an AI-powered video player that makes searching and navigating video content a seamless experience. It will automatically generate transcripts, then create an Actionable Table of Contents (AToC) by understanding the context of the conversations in the video, while adding ‘deep tags’ to each segment in the AToC. Now every word of your video is fully searchable with results showing up as a clickable timestamp to the moment of that search phrase. Every segment of your entire video library is now properly indexed and organized. Viewers can search your video gallery or skim the AToC of specific videos to find the topics that are most relevant for them and stay engaged longer because they are consuming exactly what they’re interested in, and interacting with it. #videoconferencing #businesstravel #productivity #elearning #remoteteam
