You can learn more in this clip from NBC4.

In the heart of Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, there is a place that’s been quietly offering hope and rebuilding lives for 45 years. News4’s Julie Carey reports.

Survey Participation

The City of Alexandria's Department of Planning and Zoning is in the midst of a planning process for Del Ray and our neighbors to the north, Arlandria and the Del Ray Citizens Association wants to know what issues matter to you most with this short survey.

The current plans, devised in 2005 (for Del Ray) and 2003 (for Arlandria) have provided a clear vision for neighborhood development "where Main Street still exists". However, these plans are in need of review and revision. Amazon's decision to plant HQ2 in nearby Crystal City, Virginia Tech's new campus in North Potomac Yard and the construction of the new Potomac Yard Metrorail station are all expected to have major impacts on the surrounding neighborhoods.

Course – Alexandria Turkey Trot

Happy Thanksgiving Week, Del Ray!
Thursday is the day of the 44th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot. It's a fun race to run (or trot or walk) or to support from the sidelines, but if instead it's to grandmother's house you go, be aware of some *street closings* on Thursday morning.
Please review the race route so you won't be caught by surprise. Streets close before the race begins at 9am and should be reopened by 10:30am. Plan accordingly and allow a little extra time to get to your Gobblefest.

With the limited parking, taking a bike or dockless scooter to Art on the Avenue 2019 is a good idea, but please no riding *through* the festival.
Park bikes and dockless scooters outside the festival footprint.

When making your plans for Art on the Avenue remember that you can ride your bike or scooter to the festival but for safety reasons (there are like a zillion people there) you'll nee to park on the fringes.
Look what we came up with.

Delregians! Please take a few moments to complete the City's survey on "dockless mobility" (i.e. scooters) before September 6. You can also read here about updates to the City's scooter pilot.

Don't know much about scooters? The City is organizing outreach events to educate the public about scooter safety and provide hands-on riding experience, including one at the September First Thursday in Del Ray (9/5). Be sure to check it out!

The City of Alexandria has launched a pilot program to allow private companies to operate shared mobility devices (such as dockless bicycles and scooters available for rent) in the City under a nine month demonstration program. 2019 Alexandria Mobility Plan (AMP)

**Deadline extended! Survey will remain open through Sunday, August 18**

There are *two* more days for City residents to take the survey to help update its Transportation Master Plan. (Survey closes Wednesday, August 14.)

If you care about getting around the City safely and comfortably, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Our input will determine planning priorities for the new Alexandria Mobility Plan.

The AMP, a strategic update to the 2008 Transportation Master Plan, will ensure that transportation in the city continues to serve the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors as the region grows and new technology adds to the ways we get around. The AMP process will gather public input on trade...

ICYMI: If you suffered flooding or other damage from Monday’s storm, please use this link to report your losses.
The City needs this data from residents to determine what assistance may be available from state and federal programs.

NEWS :: The City is asking residents, businesses and property owners affected by the July 8 storm to report damage online by this Friday, July 12. The reports will help the City collect and assess damage to residences and businesses resulting from flash flooding. This historic weather event caused significant damage to public facilities, roads, businesses and homes. City officials continue to work with state and local partners to assess the damage from Monday’s storms. The Alexandria Office of Emergency Management is working with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency to determine what assistance may be available to residents from state and federal programs.

By filing a damage report, residents, businesses and property owners can help Alexandria recover from this severe weather event. While owners are responsible for repairs of their property, the City can use this data to pursue disaster aid from the federal government, to the extent that such aid is available.

Transportation & Environmental Services, City of Alexandria, Virginia

Hope everyone weathered yesterday's meteorological ambush well enough, though many of us with basements weren't all that lucky.
If you're cleaning up, be aware that trash and recycling collection will be *one day late* this week since the City had to suspend collection operations on account of Monday's rough weather.
Good luck drying out!

Trash and Recycling Collection Delay Reminder:
Due to the severe weather yesterday (Monday, July 8), City trash and recycling collection was suspended mid morning. Collection will take place one day later than normal for the rest of the week.

We understand some trash and recycling containers went missing yesterday, especially those out for Monday collection. Once safe, please attempt to locate your container. As crews are out on Tuesday to service the Monday routes, they will attempt to recover containers when possible.
