Viswaguru Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda ("Viswaguruji"). Yoga In Daily Life is a holistic system of health, encompassing the science of body, mind, consciousness and soul. While completely true to the authentic Indian traditions of classical yoga, it is adjusted to meet the needs of our modern times and lifestyles. To live in harmony with oneself and the environment is the wish of every human. However, greater physical and emotional demands are constantly placed upon many areas of life. The result: more and more people suffer from physical and mental tension such as stress, anxiety, insomnia, and there is an imbalance in physical activity and proper exercise. This is why methods and techniques for the attainment and improvement of health, as well as physical, mental and spiritual harmony, are of great importance, and it is exactly in this respect that Yoga In Daily Life comprehensively offers an aid to help one’s self -- to establish physical, mental, spiritual and social health. To make these goals accessible to everyone, Yoga In Daily Life is structured as a graded system of learning. It contains eight progressive levels and is suitable for everyone regardless of age, state of health or cultural background. The exercise levels were worked out in consultation with doctors and physiotherapists.

The System “Yoga in Daily Life” - A Science of Body, Mind, Consciousness and Soul To live in harmony with oneself and the environment is the wish of every human. However, in modern times greater physical and emotional demands are constantly placed upon many areas of life. The result: more and more people suffer from physical and mental tension such as stress, anxiety, insomnia, and there is an imbalance in physical activity and proper exercise. This is why methods and techniques for the attainment and improvement of health, as well as physical, mental and spiritual harmony, are of great importance, and it is exactly in this respect that “Yoga in Daily Life” comprehensively offers an aid to help one’s self. The system of “Yoga in Daily Life” is systematic and graduated, integrating all areas of life and offering something valuable for each phase of life. Regardless of age or physical constitution, this system opens the classical path of Yoga to all. In developing this system to accommodate the needs of today’s people, much consideration was given to the conditions within modern society, without losing the originality and effect of the ancient teachings. The word “Yoga” originates from Sanskrit and means “to join, to unite”. Yoga exercises have a holistic effect and bring body, mind, consciousness and soul into balance. In this way Yoga assists us in coping with everyday demands, problems and worries. Yoga helps to develop a greater understanding of our self, the purpose of life and our relationship to God. On the spiritual path, Yoga leads us to supreme knowledge and eternal bliss in the union of the individual Self with the universal Self. Yoga is that supreme, cosmic principle. It is the light of life, the universal creative consciousness that is always awake and never sleeps; that always was, always is, and always will be. Many thousands of years ago in India, Rishis (wise men and saints) explored nature and the cosmos in their meditations. They discovered the laws of the material and spiritual realms and gained an insight into the connections within the universe. They investigated the cosmic laws, the laws of nature and the elements, life on earth and the powers and energies at work in the universe - both in the external world as well as on a spiritual level. The unity of matter and energy, the origin of the universe and the effects of the elementary powers have been described and explained in the Vedas. Much of this knowledge has been rediscovered and confirmed by modern science. From these experiences and insights a far-reaching and comprehensive system known as Yoga originated and gave us valuable, practical instructions for the body, breath, concentration, relaxation and meditation. The practices that this System offers have therefore already proven themselves over thousands of years and have been found to be helpful by millions of people. The system “Yoga in Daily Life” is taught worldwide in Yoga Centres, Adult Education Centres, Health Institutions, Fitness and Sports Clubs, Rehabilitation Centres and Health Resorts. It is suitable for all age groups - it requires no “acrobatic” skills and also provides the unfit, as well as handicapped, ill and convalescent people, the possibility of practising Yoga. The name itself indicates that Yoga can be and should be used “in Daily Life”. The exercise levels were worked out in consultation with doctors and physiotherapists and can therefore - with observation of the stated rules and precautions - be practised independently at home by anyone. “Yoga in Daily Life” is a holistic system, which means it takes into consideration not only the physical, but also the mental and spiritual aspects. Positive thinking, perseverance, discipline, orientation towards the Supreme, prayer as well as kindness and understanding, form the way to Self-Knowledge and Self-Realisation. The System Levels The System consists of eight progressive levels. Every session in each of the eight levels starts with anti-stress relaxation. Relaxation is followed by the practice of Asanas (postures), the practice of Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Self-Inquiry Meditation techniques. These techniques evolve in complexity as practitioners advance through the System. Practice of the eight levels of the System provides the practitioner with the ability to inquire more deeply into the spiritual aspects of human existence.

Given the latest development of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have come to the conclusion that it would be best to suspend our classes for the time being.
Starting Monday, March 16 all our yoga and meditation classes will be suspended.
Any unused active passes will be extended and valid once we reopen.

our new Holiday Session starts December 9.

We would like to share some information concerning the Yoga center hours during the Holidays. The Yoga center will be closed starting December 23 and reopening on January 2. The Winter 1 Session will start January 6.

The Holiday Session schedule is available online. All classes are being offered on drop-in basis - you can use your 5 or 10 class packages, or just purchase a single drop-in pass. We encourage you to sign up for the class and please check our schedule before coming to the class.

We are happy to inform you that our Wednesday Meditation class is being offered free of charge on the 11 and 18 of December as part of Well Ray’s 12 Days of Wellness.

Saturday was the annual Art on the Avenue festival in Del Ray. Yoga in Daily Life participated with a booth. We spoke with many passersby that either are already practicing or are interested in starting a yoga class. It was nice day as the temperature had come down compared to a the days before.

Last Thursday the city of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks planted 17 new trees at the Four Mile Run park. There was a large volunteer force to help preparing the holes for the trees. A member of Yoga in Daily Life was present to help, as one of the trees is a replacement of the Peace Tree that was planted in 2016.

Yoga in Daily Life USA (Alexandria/Washington DC) commemorated International Day of Yoga by participating in the annual outdoor festival, “Well Ray”, devoted to promoting health and wellness.

WellRay is one of several street festivals hosted by the active Del Ray community, where Yoga in Daily Life established the first neighborhood yoga classes in the early 1990s and later purchased a centrally located building.

YIDL teachers Ron and Lakshmi taught an outdoor class to a large crowd on the beautiful June day. Volunteers staffed a YIDL table throughout the half-day fair, where they answered questions about the system, distributed coupons for classes, and offered YIDL and chakra books for sale.

Neighboring Del Ray businesses offered Pilates instruction, CrossFit and Spin classes, brief chiropractic and physical therapy sessions, blood pressure screening, and other health services and fitness activities.

We would like to thank the organizers for putting on this truly special event.

Our Spiritual Leader, Vishwaguru Paramhans Swami Maheswaranander arrived at the Sri Deep Madhavananda Ashram in Alexandria last Thurday. The purpose of the visit was part of the 2019 World tour, Chakras Revealed. Vishwaguruji, as he is known among his disciples, held a number of lectures covering the topic of Chakras and Kundalini. There was an outing to the Peace Tree in the Four Mile Run park behind Mom's. The Peace Tree was planted during one of Vishwagurujis earlier visits to Alexandria. Mayor Justin Wilson came to the Ashram for a short visit and was treated to special program. The beautiful and exotic Bharatanatyam dance interpreted ancient stories for the modern-day Westerners, teaching lessons from Indian mythology that featured Lord Shiva, the goddess Lakshmi, and other deities. The former Mayor Allison Silberberg, came to visit Vishwaguruji as well. She encouraged the planting of additional peace trees in Alexandria. It was a blessed five-day visit with bhaktas from near and far. Disciples and students representing all five continents enjoyed his luminous Satsangs.

Founder: The Founder of Yoga in Daily Life - His Holiness Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Sri Swami Maheshwarananda Puriji of Panchayati Maha Nirvani Akhara ("Viswaguruji").www.vishwaguruji.org/swamiji

Awards:

On 10th April, 1998, Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda was inaugurated by the World Religious Parliament as "Sarvabhaum Sanatan Dharma Jagadguru".

At the Maha Kumbha Mela in Haridwar, India (13 April, 1998) he was appointed as Mahamandaleshwar of Maha Nirvani Akhara.

In 2001 on the occasion of the Maha Kumbha Mela in Prayagraj (Allahabad), Swamiji was awarded with the highest spiritual title of Vishwaguru (Master of the Universe) in the presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Sri Swami Narendranandaji Sarasvati, by the Vidvat Samaj.

Especially during the communist era, Swamiji's spiritual and humanitarian work provided great moral support to the people of the Eastern European countries of Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Yugoslavia. Due to his distinguished charitable, humanitarian, religious and environmental work as well as his untiring efforts for tolerance and world peace, Swamiji has been acknowledged by social, medical, religious and political dignitaries in many different parts of the world.

For his selfless efforts during nearly 20 years he received a letter of thanks by the President of the Czech Republic, Mr. Vaclav Havel. Croatian President Stipe Mesic acknowledged Swamiji's humanitarian service to Croatia over the last 30 years by awarding him the Order of the Croatian Star with the Effigy of Katarina Zrinska.
