Boston Pops

ASO's Sounds for These Times from Maestro Jim: "The heroes of one moment aren't necessarily those of another. John Williams' incredible music written for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics translates beautifully to our times when people risk their lives to save ours."

The Boston Pops Orchestra presents a musical video tribute to all of the front line workers during the COVID-19 epidemic. #JohnWilliams himself joins this virtual tribute based on his composition, "Summon the Heroes", a piece originally written for the '96 #Olympics.

We celebrate music’s power to connect us, inspire us, and uplift us. Keep the music playing with your support: http://ow.ly/RuGC50zxRbv

Joyce DiDonato

ASO's Sounds for These Times from Maestro Jim: "This Venezuelan Parisian was a super composer of art songs, and Joyce puts it out there in a one-woman collaboration as an embrace to the world."

I was happy to participate in The Call to Unite organized by Oprah Winfrey and Tim Shriver. My song - one of the most beautiful I know - is about love. Wishing each of you an abundance of love within and around you. If we can nurture that, we are rich beyond measure. From my home to yours... ❤️

ASO's Sounds for These Times from Maestro Jim: "Eichendorff says it, 'We've walked, hand in hand, through hardship and joy. Now we both rest from walking across the silent countryside. All around us the valleys are fading, it has already become dark. Just two larks are still rising, dreamlike, into the heavens. Stand here and let them fly about; it will soon be time to sleep, lest we go astray in this loneliness. Oh further, silent peace! So profound at sunset. How tired we are of traveling: Is this - perhaps - death?"

ASO's Sounds for These Times and Maestro Jim: "In the opening chorus to this opera from which so much good music springs, Orpheus laments the loss of his beloved through the voice of the chorus. In the late 1990s, choreographer Pina Bausch was busy inventing Tanztheater in Wupertal, Germany, at the same theater where our present ASO Executive Director George Hanson was conducting and befriending her. Genius!"

While many are separated from friends and loved ones, we are reminded of what still is accessible—belonging to one thing, one love."

ASO's Sounds for These Times from Maestro Jim: "This is the sound of small-town America, ca. 1938. The size may be small, but the feeling is big. MET Orchestra Musicians

ASO's Sounds for These Times from Maestro Jim: "The Metropolitan Opera orchestra viola section lost one of its beloved members to the Covid-19 virus. This Handel aria is offered up in loving memory of Vincent Lionti with Joyce DiDonato offering the musical soliloquy on loss and life going on."

During yesterday's At-Home Gala, The MET Orchestra's viola section, with Joyce DiDonato and Maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin, performed Handel’s 'Ombra Mai Fù' in a moving tribute to our very own Vincent Lionti, who died of Covid-19 complications earlier this month.
