The Office of Student Life is building a community of learners and inspiring the growth of the whole student by facilitating extracurricular and co-curricular programs that support student engagement, leadership, involvement, teamwork, retention and life-long learning opportunities.

Mission: How we achieve this goal: -provide advising, training and mentoring to student leaders and advisors -inspire students to become active members of the campus and community -create programs and events that foster interactions among the diverse members of the NOVA community -maintain spaces and resources for students focused on initiatives that enrich college culture -engage student leaders to discover new knowledge that enables them to critically evaluate evidence, make informed judgments, balance multiple perspectives and act ethically -expand opportunities for experimental learning, civic engagement, cultural enrichment, leadership development, recreation and service learning

*Register Now for Mystery Bus Trip #2! Friday, October 4, 2019. Feel the wind blow through your hair as you defy gravity in our upcoming adventure! Register for Mystery Bus #2.

*Ongoing - Hershey Park Sign-Ups. AA 141. Join us for a trip to Hershey Park, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 26th! You must be currently enrolled to be eligible. You must sign up in person and spaces are limited so they will be first come first serve. To sign up, you must bring your student ID and $30.00 per person. Cash ONLY. The cost covers transportation to and from the park, entry to the park, & one meal.

*Monday - Broke to Budgeting: The Truth About Credit - How Credit Can Help Your Future. Student Lounge (AA146). 12:00pm - 1:00pm & 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Join us at one of the two sessions to hear from Care 4 Your Future and learn about how credit works, how to build credit, how to increase your credit score, types of student loans, and default prevention. *Monday - Lotería. Bisdorf Cafeteria. 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Join the SALSA Club in a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month by playing a game of Lotería.

*Monday - Green Club Meeting. AA293. 3:30pm - 4:30pm.

*Tuesday - SALSA Club Bake Sale. Tabling (Y Area). 11:00am - 3:00pm. Stop by and support SALSA Club’s End of Semester Party by purchasing a delicious treat.

*Tuesday - SEAS Workshop: Citations 101. ASC Annex (AA234). 2:00pm - 3:00pm. Whether writing papers, speeches, or discussion board posts, as a student you need to understand how and when to cite sources accurately. This new Citations 101 workshop will review the basics of citing in MLA and APA formats. We will talk about some best practices to help you avoid unintentional plagiarism. Finally, you will leave with additional resources for times when you need citation help.

*Wednesday - Build Your Own Terrarium. Bisdorf Patio. 12:00pm - 3:00pm. Relax on the patio and build your own take-home terrarium. Choose a succulent, a container, and any combination of dirt, rocks, sand, and decorations. Hurry, while supplies last!

*Wednesday - Chinese Intercultural Club Meeting. AA472. 3:15pm - 4:15pm.

*Wednesday - iConnect Club Meeting. Bisdorf Cafeteria. 3:30pm - 5:30pm.

*Wednesday - SALSA Club Meeting. AFA Dance Studio (2nd floor). 3:30pm - 5:30pm.

*Thursday - Mason Day Fall 2019. Bisdorf Cafeteria. 11:00am - 3:30pm. Stop by the Cafeteria to meet with George Mason Majors representatives.

*Thursday - SEAS Workshop: Time Management for Busy Students. ASC Annex (AA234). 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Time management is one of the most challenging aspects of college. Multiple classes, assignments, and deadlines can easily become overwhelming. (Not to mention work, family, and other obligations!) This workshop will offer strategies and tools for prioritizing tasks, working more efficiently, and keeping track of everything, while still making time for the things that relax and recharge you.

*Friday - SEAS Workshop: “Backwards Reading” for Better Comprehension. Online. 12:00pm - 1:00pm. Have you ever felt lost or confused as you tried to complete a reading assignment? This workshop will help you improve your reading comprehension and utilize your textbooks and other reading materials more effectively. The good news is that the special skills required for academic reading can be mastered with practice. The better news is that this workshop will help you do that!

Thank you conference planning committee, student /alumni panelists/presenters, NOVA faculty/staff facilitators/mentors, and community supporters Burke & Herbert Bank, BB&T, Volunteer Alexandria, and Virginia Commonhealth for helping our students make valuable connections.
