Marc van Iersal shared this sad news. Paul Thomas, PAX Fellow and chapter advisor has been a major part of PAX for years. His contributions will not be forgotten.

It is with great sadness that I share the unexpected and awful news that Dr. Paul Thomas passed away today. He retired from UGA's horticulture department just two weeks ago. He just started a new job with the American Floral Endowment to promote their internship program. He was in Delaware doing what he probable loved most; visiting former students and greenhouses. He was looking forward to his new career with AFE, when an apparent heart attack ended his life.

Paul was a fierce advocate for his students and placed many of them in greenhouses around the country. He was extremely passionate about working with students and made a tremendous impact on the floriculture industry. We will all miss him, but no one will miss him more than than his wife Toni and his two sons, the youngest of which just got married.

Let's make this page a tribute to Paul's legacy. Please share your favorite stories and pictures.

Most importantly, please keep his wife Toni and his two sons in your thoughts. RIP PT.

Study: The More Trees We're Surrounded By, The Lower Our Stress Levels

We already knew this. That’s why we studied horticulture!

Lining city streets with trees reduces physiological symptoms of stress in humans. The thicker the tree cover, the lower the stress levels, study finds. We all know that a walk in nature can help slow the maddening pace of modern life and bring us back into the moment, but a …
