NATSO Dismisses Tolling Claims in Reason Foundation Study - Tolling & Privatization - NATSO

"The public detests interstate tolls, and with good reason," said NATSO President and CEO Lisa Mullings. "Tolls divert motorists and truck drivers to non-interstates, leading to more traffic deaths. Additionally, it costs the government more money to collect tolls than to collect fuel taxes."

NC DOT hears from public on I-95 expansion, tolls

"We believe that every other interstate in North Carolina has been improved, simply through the use of the gas tax, and I-95 should be no different." Well said by Ernie Brame of the No Tolls I-95 Coalition! http://www.wncn.com/story/22231026/nc-dot-hears-from-public-on-i-95-expansion-tolls

North Carolina's Department of Transportation is looking to collect more ideas on ways to pay to upgrade Interstate 95, including hearing about the possible cost to businesses of charging tolls.

05/13/2013

The NC House Transportation Committee unanimously voted to send House Bill 267 on to Appropriations. HB 267 would keep the existing lanes of I-95 from being tolled. We applaud this bipartisan effort on behalf of the citizens and businesses of The I-95 corridor.

When it comes to tolling, people on all sides of the political spectrum find it to be bad policy. http://www.christianpost.com/news/toll-roads-and-double-taxation-the-left-and-libertarians-converge-92991/

Toll roads are appealing to many on the right, because the fees don't look like taxes; motorists are charged for the voluntary action of driving on a specific road. Toll roads appear to be run by private entities, not the government.

Editorial: Costly study for the bad idea of toll roads is not needed

Winston-Salem Journal editors write: the N.C. DOT is about to waste $1.6 million assessing the economic impact of tolls on I-95. DOT should forget that idea. Paying for the $4.4 billion upgrading of the major north-south route through Eastern North Carolina with tolls won’t work and has very little political support. We couldn't have said it better ourselves! http://www2.journalnow.com/news/2012/oct/08/editorial-costly-study-bad-idea-toll-roads-not-nee-ar-2671288/

While prospects for operation of more North Carolina toll roads are rightly dimming, the N.C. Department of Transportation is about to waste another $1.6 million assessing the economic impact of tolls on Interstate 95.
