Prevent Cancer Foundation

Prevent Cancer Foundation The mission of the Prevent Cancer Foundation® is saving lives across all populations through cancer prevention and early detection. Our vision is to Stop Cancer Before It Starts!®
The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is the only U.S. nonprofit organization solely devoted to cancer prevention and early detection. When the Prevent Cancer Foundation® was founded in 1985, the concept of cancer prevention and early detection was not widely embraced by the medical community or the general public. Today, cancer prevention and early detection are at the forefront of reducing cancer diagnoses and deaths. We have played a key role in changing this perception. The Foundation carries out its mission in four key areas: research, education, community outreach and advocacy.

We see you and we stand with you.

Black lives matter. The Prevent Cancer Foundation stands with you in wanting to dismantle systemic racism and injustice in the U.S. We have always said that cancer doesn’t discriminate. But the truth is, discrimination exists in many forms—including in health care. We will continue to do our part to fight for the equality, health and safety of the black community.

#WomensHealthWeek spotlight: Dr. Peng is a 2019 Prevent Cancer research grantee testing a new way to help women reduce their #BreastCancer risk through diet. Carotenoids (plant pigments) may help prevent breast cancer in high-risk women. Dr. Peng's work sets out to develop a strategy to promote carotenoids in the diet, which may reduce breast cancer risk, and ultimately prevent cancer. #NWHW #CancerResearch #NationalWomensHealthWeek

#WomensHealthWeek spotlight: Dr. Phillips is a Prevent Cancer Advocacy Workshop 2020 research grantee testing an innovation in mammography which may improve early detection for more women.

👉Women at a high-risk of breast cancer often need a mammogram AND a breast MRI. But two tests aren't always an option. MRI is not available everywhere in the country, some insurance may not cover a breast MRI and some doctors may not recommend it for various reasons. Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) may be a solution. This test finds more breast cancers than mammography and a similar number compared to MRI. Compared to MRI, it's also faster, cheaper, easier to implement and leads to fewer unnecessary biopsies. Dr. Phillips’ research will study the use of CEM exams and track their relationship to cancer detection. #NWHW #CancerResearch #NationalWomensHealthWeek

#WomensHealthWeek spotlight: Dr. Darren Mays is a Prevent Cancer Foundation 2019 research grantee testing a new way to help women combat indoor tanning addiction. 25% of young women who tan indoors become addicted in a way that is similar to drugs, alcohol or tobacco. Indoor tanning is dangerous and increases risk of developing #SkinCancer. Dr. Mays is developing and testing a texting program that aims to combat addiction and potentially save young women's lives. #NWHW #CancerResearch #NationalWomensHealthWeek

#WomensHealthWeek spotlight: Dr. Allen is a Prevent Cancer Foundation 2020 research grant recipient exploring new ways to help women quit smoking. Tobacco use is estimated to cause 1 out of every 3 cancers. If a woman quits smoking before age 40, she can avoid 90% of the harms caused by smoking, yet most smoking cessation medications (like the nicotine patch) are less effective for women than for men. Dr. Allen's work targets ovarian hormones, which could be one of the reasons women have a more difficult time quitting smoking. Through her research she will test contraceptives as a means to help women successfully quit smoking. #NWHW #CancerResearch #NationalWomensHealthWeek

Champion Awareness

There are so many creative ways to give back. Today the Champion Awareness duo planned to be on their second day of a 340 mile bike ride for cancer awareness, but due to COVID-19, they are self-isolating with the families. We just wanted to thank the team for their support over the years and for their creativity when it comes to spreading cancer awareness. Here's to next year! 👏

UV light should not be used to prevent or treat COVID-19 - Prevent Cancer Foundation

We know people are searching for answers on how to prevent or treat #COVID19—especially cancer patients, who are at a higher risk of serious illness from the virus. Despite recent speculation, there is no evidence that UV radiation has any impact on the virus. We caution anyone considering using UV radiation to stop immediately and speak with a trained medical professional.

Practicing #SocialDistancing? Now is the perfect time to focus on yourself and reevaluate those New Year's resolutions. Setting small, measurable goals is key to achieving them. A goal like "get healthy" is vague and virtually impossible to meet because it's hard to tell when you've met it. "Walk for 30 minutes every day this week," is much better—it's less overwhelming and you know when you've completed it.

Today we're launching an ongoing effort to help you (yes, you) set and reach small goals that can improve your health and help #StopCancerBeforeItStarts. Will you set your own goals or follow our weekly #WellnessWednesday series on instagram?

Too Young for This Sh*t - Prevent Cancer Foundation

Think you’re too young for this sh*t? #ColorectalCancer is on the rise in younger adults—so listen up. Most people think that colorectal cancer affects only older adults—but today, more adults under the recommended screening age are being diagnosed than ever before.

The good news is that colorectal cancer is preventable. Most colorectal cancer cases start with precancerous polyps, but getting screened can reduce your risk and help #StopCancerB4ItStarts!

Start screening at age 45 if you’re at an average risk. If you have certain risk factors you may need to start screening sooner or get screened more often.

Hi, I wanted to take a moment to thank the people at Prevent Cancer who so kindly and promptly helped my sister with a problem with her donation. She was given assistance on the phone and an apology for the trouble, and later was sent a hand written letter also apologizing. My sister was treated with respect and understanding, and for that and many other things, I thank you.

Hello, I love this page. Below is my video outlining a revolutionary new way of looking at cancer. It involves a 180 degree shift in how we use our minds to promote health and healing. As one who struggled with a cancer diagnosis, and as a psychotherapist with 30 years of experience, I recommend this video to anyone wanting a new perspective. Take your power back! Feedback most welcome and sharing most appreciated.
Is Prevent Cancer Foundation a humane seal approved charity? Do you fund animal experiments for cancer research? I couldn't find any information on your website. I've lost my father and uncle to cancer, and have several friends and family members who have/have had cancer. And I'm looking for an organization to support that funds nonanimal research methods. Thank you in advance for your reply.
What is the root cause of Cancer? Today I want to share with you some of my thoughts on Cancer. Cancer is killing millions of people every year all over the world, billions of dollars are spent on cancer research worldwide with not much result, people continue to get cancer and die every day.
