A very special thanks to the Albany & Troy Lions Club for their sponsorship of the Youth Blueberry Orchard. This project was generously funded in part by the United Way of the Greater Capital Region. A team of volunteers from Maximus NY worked hard to get these bushes in the ground, creating green space and sustainable nutritional access in our community for decades.

As with any great community effort, it takes a village to see it through and we would like to give a very honorable mention and thank you to the City of Albany Department of General Services for their support and specifically that of Robert Minard and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan

Today's harvest of golden oyster mushrooms shows how creating environmentally healthy, agriculturally viable landscapes in urban communities can also provide capacity-building and economic opportunities for community members and program participants.

A spacial thank you to everyone who came together to make yesterday a success.

The summer youth employment program kids and team leaders who worked so hard over the past couple weeks.

The Siena photo voice project interns who went above and beyond in setting up our community corner space on first and quail.

All our gardeners and team leads for volunteer staffing and cooking at the event.

The RED Bookshelf who really showed out for the kids and had a free book stand and a strong presence.

Albany 518 SNUG was there handing out hand sanitizer and talking to community members and youth about pushing back against gun violence.

Everyone who donated large and small. Everything helped and it came together to make a great event. We fed hundreds of meals to satisfy the hunger for food but everyone feasted heartily on The Good vibes and community spirit we were able to uplift.

It was an honor to stand in solidarity with our neighbors, with the family of Nasir and others affected by gun violence in our community.

Albany Victory Gardens

At Albany Victory Gardens, we are all about supporting our community! When we heard about our community member Nasir’s death due to gun violence, we knew we wanted to help his family and friends. His family has secured the permits for a block party on First Street and we want to support making it a success.

We would like to celebrate Nasir’s life while standing up against gun violence.

Right now, we are looking for a DJ. Please reach out or comment if you know a good one!

Hello AVG Gardener's. It is harvest season. Bring your harvest to our new farmers market at 71 Quail St. if you want to sell some of your produce. Every Sunday through October 31st from 2 to 6. I thought this looked familiar 50 years ago I lived at 454.....wow all the houses are gone......
It's great to see a farm that provides fresh food to its community! I've been trying to support local farms and lead a more sustainable life since quarantine started, and when searching for resources I came across a Youtube trailer for a Netflix documentary called "Kiss the Ground." The latest film from activist and director duo Josh and Rebecca Tickell, this film details how important our food production and the use of regenerative agriculture is to reversing the effects of climate change! Celebrities such as Woody Harrelson and Ian Somerhalder come together to help spread this uplifting message about coming together to help save our planet! I thought this group would be interested in hearing about this film because of your farm's goal to produce healthy food for the community that benefits the environment! They are hosting a virtual watch party and Q&A today when the film premieres, and I am so excited to learn more! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this film!
New to the area... is this a horse fly? Or some kind of bee? It's body looked like a bumble bee...huge round furry but all black...but it clearly had fly eyeballs?
This is my blue pumpkin (jaradale squash) pollinated last week... is the 70 ish days time Frost going to be enough time for this to grow and ripen before Frost? We just moved in January from the desert and trying to get a handle on growing...this and our butternuts are just now putting on female flowers? Our spaghetti squash has been spitting them out for a month now!
If you are near the Gardens you may be able to see the Bees take a cleansing flight! Honeybees will take a cleansing flight when the weather is warm enough (approx. 50 degrees) and there is no rain.
Great connecting with you all this week. You're truly doing amazing things, keep on learning from the plants and I'll see you all again soon!
Good morning!

Hey everyone, me and a group of SUNY Albany Business school students have been working on fundraising for AVG. Here a little video I made detailing our efforts. Also if anyone is interested in donating or sharing the GoFundMe page, a link will be in the comments! Thanks for watching!
I think its great that you are starting a new garden in Albany. As one of the oldest community gardening organization's in the country, Capital Roots places high value on all growing projects.
