Congratulations AKMuan - Lance Corporal Tre’ D. Holmes! Thank you for your service! #AKM #KnowledgeIsPower #LivingstoneCollege

FEATURED STUDENT: Lance Corporal Tre’ D. Holmes from #Spencer, N.C., is currently enrolled at the Naval School of Music to train as an instrumentalist in the U.S. Marine Corps Music Program.

Lance Corporal Holmes attended Adrian High School and graduated from Statesville High School. While in high school, LCpl Holmes performed on Tuba and Drums in Marching Band, and played Bassoon in the Concert Band. He also had the opportunity to compete in Solo and Ensemble competitions and perform in the All-County Honors band. After high school, he continued his education at Livingstone College where he majored in Piano performance and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Music Liberal Arts. In addition to his studies on piano, LCpl Holmes held a number of roles in the Livingstone College Quiet Storm Marching Band as a member of the Saxophone and Mellophone sections and serving as the Drum Major. He also performed on bassoon in the Concert Band and Symphony Band. Outside of the music department, LCpl Holmes was President of both the Student Government Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and a member of the Livingstone College Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society. After college, LCpl Holmes was hired as the Director of Bands at North Rowan High School for three years before auditioning for the piano position in the U.S. Marine Corps. Lance Corporal Tre’ D. Holmes was recruited out of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Charlotte, 6th Marine Corps District.

“One of the best things about the Naval School of Music is that the high standards are backed with a strong support system of the Staff to help Marines/Sailors make it through the tough curriculum. Although having a degree could have led me down the path to attend OCS, I knew that music was an important part of my life and I wanted to take advantage of my skill set for the Marine Corps Band Program. The Marine Corps pushes a person to be the best at everything they do and I feel honored to be part of a program that not only helps me become the best version of myself, but is reinforced by our core values.”

- Lance Corporal Tre’ D. Holmes
