Hi everyone. After the tragedy of what happened on Saturday morning. Hillel and ZBT fraternity will be tabling in the CC lobby on Thursday from 11-3:30 for a fundraiser for the families and synagogue that were involved in this horrific event so they can attempt to return to their lives after this act of hatred. We will be selling buttons, cookies, candy and writing letters to the families for support and comfort in this hard time. We hope to see you there.

Our students commemorating Yom Hashoah: Holocaust Memorial Day.
"It is our duty as the next generation to continue the strong efforts of Holocaust Remembrance. The future relies on us, and we must not judge a person based on their race, religion, or gender as our ancestors were in the Holocaust. Our people had their futures and identities ripped from them during the Holocaust and the messages of the Holocaust must live on forever." - Danielle Haft ; Jewish Life Chair and Coordinater of this years vigil.

Meet the Students!
This week: Danielle Haft

Hello! My name is Danielle Haft, and I am from Syosset in Long Island, New York. I am currently a sophomore at the University at Albany and am proud to serve as the Jewish Life Chair on the Hillel Board this year! My major is Sociology and I am a triple minor in Judaic Studies, Psychology, and Education. My goal career is to become a high school guidance counselor, and I am looking forward to many more years in school to achieve this goal! In addition to my involvement in Hillel I am involved with Shabbos House, Great Danes for Israel, Middle Earth and as well my volunteer involvement with admissions recruiting students to come to UAlbany! So far this year as my position as Jewish Life I was able to hold a candy sukkah building event in honor of sukkot. I am looking forward to planning many more events throughout the year and especially the Yom Hashoah Holocaust Vigil in the spring. Looking forward to a great rest of the year ahead!

Featured Alumnus: Scott Kessler

Scott Kessler, class of 2012, received a BA in Communications with a minor in Business. Scott transferred to Albany his junior year and immediately got involved on campus. He was active in Hillel, Chabad/Shabbos House, ABLE ( Albany Business Leaders Emerging) as well as a goalkeeper on the Men's D1 NCAA Soccer Team. One of Scott's fondest memory of Hillel is the lasting tradition of Tuesday Schmoozeday- where weekly bagels and snacks are served in the Hillel office. Here he was able to make friends, build relationships, and learn more about the Jewish culture at UAlbany in a casual environment set up by Rabbi Nomi Manon. In his junior year he also created AlbanySwap.com - a digital marketplace where students could buy and sell items with each other, mostly text books. His career advice to current students is to have a fun pet project that allows you to apply what you learn in class to the real world, it doesn't have to be too serious, a blog is perfect. This is a great way to test your knowledge, learn practical skills, and in the long term is impressive to future employers.

After graduation, Scott was hired in the advertising field as a Media Planner in Manhattan for the media agency Mindshare, where he worked along side two other UAlbany grads. He recently started a new job this past November at Roku, the streaming media startup, as a Sales Planner on the ad sales team. There he puts together plans helping brands figure out the best way to advertise on Roku devices.

Scott, a native of Syosset, NY now resides in Astoria, Queens.
