Max Rose

New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento - “The New York State AFL-CIO proudly supports Max Rose for Congress. Max understands what our members, including those who are essential workers, faced and continue to face as a result of COVID-19 because Max did what he always does - steps up when his country, state and city need him. He deployed with the National Guard to assist the COVID-19 response on Staten Island. He is always on the side of working people. Max demanded his leadership bring legislation to strengthen unions and in turn the middle class to the floor for a vote and held the administration's feet to the fire on trade, to make sure any deal met workers' needs. He helped lead the fight to make the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund permanent and headed up an effort to educate other freshman congressmembers on the bill. For all these reasons, and many more, we look forward to working with Congressman Rose on the economic recovery from this pandemic and labor's campaign to get our members to the polls.”

I am honored to receive support and endorsements from NYS AFL-CIO, ATU, CWA and NYC Central Labor Council. When the city shut down, our union brothers and sisters kept going. It is up to us to have their backs like they had ours, both here at home and in Washington. It’s time to stop playing games and pass a COVID relief bill, get our economy back on track, and take care of our own.

Labor and Faith Forge Partnership for Social, Racial and Economic Justice

The Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral and the AFL-CIO will mark the 57th anniversary of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four girls were killed after white supremacists bombed the church on Sunday, Sept. 15, 1963, with a candlelight vigil and 10-point pledge for social, racial and economic justice.

At this moment in history, labor and faith must come together, stand together and act to stop the injustices that plague the nation—institutional racism and racist violence, the immoral response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the deepening economic crisis driven by division and greed.

Nineteen years ago we declared as a country that we would never forget those that perished in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We fought for benefits for the thousands of workers who became ill and sadly died from 9/11 related illnesses. Today, while we pay tribute to so many souls lost since that tragic day we remind those still suffering that there is health care and compensation programs available through the now permanent World Trade Center Health Program and the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. It’s the least we can do for the many heroes still struggling today.

EXCLUSIVE: Trump administration secretly withheld millions from FDNY 9/11 health program

“I’m not sure what quite what to make of this other than it’s despicable,” said Jake Lemonda, president of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association. “We’ve fought very hard for many years for these funds to provide proper medical treatment for our sick and injured. The withholding of these funds without a legitimate explanation is inexcusable.”

The Treasury Department mysteriously started withholding parts of payments meant to cover medical services for FDNY members being treated by the department's World Trade Center Health Program, documents obtained by The Daily News revealed.

In a pandemic, unions matter: In a national crisis, organized labor helps expand safety net for all workers

“If there’s a lesson for workers in this horrible and cruel crisis, it is that you should join a union — not just for better wages or a real voice on the job, but because your life may depend on it.”

On this Labor Day, with our economy struggling under the weight of a spreading deadly virus, America’s workers need more of what inspired the holiday to begin with: we need more unions.

On Labor Day, Governor Cuomo Signs Legislation Requiring Plans to Protect Public Workers in Future Health Emergencies

Mario Cilento, President of the NYS AFL-CIO, said, “Today, in his Labor Day message, Governor Cuomo noted that this pandemic has laid bare to the entire state and our country the heroism and bravery of essential workers. By signing this bill, the Governor backs up those words with tangible actions that will make workplaces safer for those courageous men and women who continue to sacrifice so much. Union Strong Podcast Episode 49: Labor Day 2020 – Where we have been and where we need to go

Each year on Labor Day we recognize and honor the incredible achievements and many contributions of working people. This year however is like no other. While we still honor the hard work of working people, the unemployment rate in New York State is at nearly 16 percent, workers fear about their safety on the job and the safety of their families. Parents struggle with whether to send their children back to school and many families struggle with how to pay for housing and food. And, an alarming number of workers have died or become ill after being exposed to the coronavirus at work.

On this podcast we hear from the President of the New York State AFL-CIO, Mario Cilento. President Cilento talks about where we have been in 2020 and what we need to do moving forward to support workers and our economy.

New York State's working people need secure safety nets

We must ensure working people are not victimized again by the pandemic. When vital public services are cut, poor people and marginalized communities are disproportionately impacted. To ensure the continuity of services, we must raise revenue, by taxing the wealthy.

By Mario Cilento as seen today in the Buffalo NewsLabor Day parades have been postponed and celebrations with family and friends will include masks and social distancing. But we can honor working people by acknowledging where we have been and where we need to go.Workers in New York State have been,....

Will gig workers be classified as employees?

State administrative agencies and the courts have begun to reaffirm what we all know – app workers ARE employees. If there was ever a time for the legislature to pass a comprehensive law to protect these workers, it is now. #LaborDay #GigEconomy

At the beginning of the year, it seemed like gig worker classification was going to be one of the biggest issues of New York’s state legislative session. California’s 2019 reclassification of gig workers such as ride hail app drivers as employees put the spotlight on New York, the next largest l...

Labor Day Highlights Importance Of Essential Workers Keeping Country Moving Throughout Pandemic

Mario Cilento, president of the New York ALF-CIO said the unified voices of workers is what truly helps drive change.

“When we work together, when the labor movement is working with our employers, we can improve the lives of our members, but also non-union members,” said Cilento.

Labor Day celebrations are traditionally marked with parades. The very first was held in New York City on Sept. 5, 1882 as a way to honor workers for their contributions to our country.

STOP TRUMP’S REIGN: MAKE AMERICA SHINE AGAIN -LET'S GET A DECENT PERSON IN THE WHITE HOUSE - JOE BIDEN May 2019, revised thru Sept 21, 2019 .......... Sept 24 MEMO re: IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY: It's about time they started the process. Remember, there are maybe 100 impeachable offenses before the Ukraine issue; this is just the last straw. The rest of this article remains the same. PART 1 – TRUMP AS A DANGER TO AMERICAN DEMOCRACY Key points: (1.) Trump has committed serious crimes, including tax evasion and money laundering from Russian sources, which relates to why and how he has conducted foreign policy as a TRAITOR and Russian asset, endangering our national security. (2) He has ignored his oath of office by failing to protect and defend the Constitution and American interests. He has abused his powers and been in rampant violation of the Constitution and committed many impeachable offenses. (3) He has governed for his own personal and political interests and not that of our country. (4.) Don’t vote for a TRAITOR and DESPOT just because we have a low “unemployment rate”. Millions of people can’t find a job or one which pays a living wage, or only find work part time or as a temp but aren’t counted in the unemployment statistics, due to antiquated methods of count. Further, the working masses are faced with healthcare, housing and education costs rising faster than wages. (5) Another four years of Trump packing the courts with conservative judges would grow his power and leave the Congress with little power, allowing Trump to act increasingly as a dictator ignoring the Constitution and the freedoms of all of us. (6) Trump is trying to destroy the pre-existing conditions guarantees we need as a healthcare safety net, This would endanger lives. He is supported in this and almost all things by Republican sycophants in the Senate. (7) He is mentally unbalanced: hot-headed and putting us at risk of war; supportive of dictators and critical of NATO, unable to keep a Cabinet or other staff, incompetent generally to run the government, a racist demagogue and a chronic liar. (8) Trump and his Republican party are waging 'War on Women' and suppressing voter rights. This alone should enrage more than half the population. Trump wants to Reign as a King! (9) Trump's immigration ploy is his ultimate con job in that Republicans have for many years enabled illegal immigration to keep wages down on the backs of the very people who are now ironically his "base"- a modern day version of the Trojan horse as he victimizes his supporters by fighting to destroy healthcare, harming the working and middle classes, consumers and farmers with tariffs and lowering taxes on only the wealthy. (10) Trump displays a virulent racism, sowing hate and domestic terrorism, and has blood on his hands in consequence of his words and actions As Americans we have to face that he is a danger to our American heritage and must be impeached or otherwise voted out of office in 2020- along with his Republican apologists. (11). Our growing national deficit of over a trillion dollars approximates the tax giveaway he signed for the wealthy elite, meaning that the rest of us are subsidizing the wealthy and giving up infrastructure, education, environmental protection and healthcare for their sake. (12) Trump by his daily behavior is no doubt mentally ill- a "TWEETY-BIRD" ready for the funny farm. If he was an ordinary executive or teacher or whatever - he would be deemed deranged and fired : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 2- BIDEN IS BEST to DEFEAT TRUMP Biden has the best chance by far to defeat Trump. Certainly he can win over the working class white voters who comprise most of Trump’s base. He can also get crossover endorsements from moderate Republicans and as President work with Republicans in the Senate, having been a respected Senator for 36 years. As Vice President for eight years, he worked closely with President Obama, who entrusted him with serious tasks, unlike Trump’s prop Pence. Biden can be tough and effective in debates against Trump. None of the other Democratic primary candidates have the status or experience of Biden, who can get funding and support from Democrats across the board. Biden is also well known and respected among world leaders and is the best person to repair the damage Trump has done to our international standing. He will be able to counter Russian transgressions into our democracy. Biden is a rational person who will govern as the Constitution and the rule of law requires, and not as a tyrant like Trump. Biden also has the ability to run the government efficiently and to unify the nation and heal the wounds that Trump created and exploited. We must unify as an electorate and ensure that an honorable and competent President will be elected in 2020. In short, if we have 20-20 vision, Biden is our best bet. Biden has compassion and character. Compare that to Trump's ruthlessness, greed and truckload of lies. Remember, we have one champion to choose in the big battle for the White House. We should choose a contender who can win. PART 3- DEMOCRATS MUST NOT FORFEIT THE WHITE HOUSE WITH A WISHFUL PRIMARY CHOICE. In all likelihood, as I write this, Elizabeth Warren is Biden’s main contender for the Democratic nomination. If she became the Democratic candidate she would be crushed by Trump. That is because, although she has active support from the progressive wing of the Democratic party, that is only a small part of the electorate. The electorate can be roughly divided into three thirds. One third is for Trump regardless; one third is for a Democrat regardless; and one third is up for grabs. That middle third is somewhat moderate and pragmatic and would favor Biden but won’t vote for Warren. She is too “pie in the sky” with her expensive wish list which would raise taxes on everyone and never get support in Congress anyway. For example, most voters want to allow private medical insurance to exist while having a government public medical insurance option and a guarantee on pre-existing conditions (Biden’s plan) but forcing medicare ONLY (Warren’s plan)- would raise taxes and even bankrupt the country. Let’s get real. Biden can win because people know he has common sense, can get wide support and get things done. Like winning the White House back and saving the country from Trump trauma.
STOP TRUMP’S REIGN: MAKE AMERICA SHINE AGAIN (Part 1 - Trump as a danger to American democracy) July 2019, revised Aug 6, 2019 Eight key points: (1.) Some would say Trump lied, so what? However, he committed more serious crimes, including tax evasion and money laundering from Russian sources, which relates to why and how he has conducted foreign policy as a TRAITOR and Russian asset, endangering our national security. (2.) Don’t vote for a Traitor and crook just because we have a low “unemployment rate”. Millions of people can’t find a job or one which pays a living wage, or only find work part time or as a temp but aren’t counted in the unemployment statistics, due to antiquated methods of count. (8) And now I need to add that Trump is evincing such a maniacal racism, sowing hate and domestic terrorism, that he has blood on his hands in consequence of his words and actions , and that as Americans we have to face that he is a danger to our American heritage and must be impeached or otherwise voted out of office in 2020- along with his Republican apologists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part 2- BIDEN IS BEST to DEFEAT TRUMP August 2019 Biden has the best chance by far to defeat Trump. He can also get crossover endorsements from moderate Republicans and as President work with Republicans in the Senate, having been a respected Senator for 36 years. As Vice President for eight years, he worked closely with President Obama, who entrusted him with serious tasks, unlike Trump’s prop Pence. Biden is tough and effective in debates, and could stand up to Trump, unlike Bernie Sanders- who is too easily flustered and belabors his 1 % issue too long. We must unify as an electorate and ensure that an honorable and competent President will be elected in 2020. In short, if we have 20-20 vision, Biden is our best bet. Two more points of late: (1) Several of Biden's primary opponents have "pie in the sky" proposals that can't work and are too costly, such as "medicare for all". Biden's health insurance plan has a public option while keeping private plans as a viable choice, and lowering drug prices. (2) Biden has compassion and character. Compare that to Trump's ruthlessness, greed and truckload of lies. Remember, we have one champion to choose in the big battle for the White House. We should chose a contender who can win..
