Happy 2014 to all Division 190 members! I hope that all of your holidays were enjoyable, and that this year will be even better. I also hope that you are enjoying your 2014 Division 190 calendars. Something else to look forward to is that we will be seeing a wage increase for the first time in four years. As we enter the last year of our contract, and with the fiscal state of New York improving, hopefully we will reap the benefits of our hard work.
On January 29th, PEF will be holding a rally in the well of the Legislative Office Building. Named SOS, (Save Our Services), this is to show support for our PEF Brothers and Sisters who are facing hardships because of proposed closures of facilities around the State. Although Tax employees are not directly impacted, we should stick together with our fellow PEF members, and let the public know that eliminating services, that are vital to the community, is not the answer to solving NY’s fiscal woes. Division 190 will have a bus going downtown, for the noon rally. T shirts and box lunches will be provided to participants. Please see your Steward, or stop down to the Division 190 office, to sign your pledge card stating that you will be attending. Using your half hour lunch, you will only have to charge around 21/2hours of your own time.
With the New Year comes new hope. The Tax Department is growing, and hopefully new opportunities for our Members will be made available. We will be holding our Membership Benefit Fairs, as well as our July 2014 Division 190 Picnic. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, or would like to get involved in all that we have to offer, please contact your Steward, or stop down to the Division 190 office. In Solidarity,
Joe

2013 PEF Convention

10/11/2013

Greetings Union Brothers and Sisters! All of our Division 190 Delegates have safely returned from the PEF Convention, held in Buffalo. Although the weather was great for the four days we were there, I cannot say the same thing about the Convention itself. Since the Convention Delegation is supposed to be the largest decision making body in PEF, resolutions submitted to address members’ concerns should be the priority. Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to be the case. The agenda, approved by the delegates was not followed, guest speakers monopolized most of the first two days, and the question and answer period after President Kent’s address was abbreviated. At times, Delegate frustration was evident. Linda Rea, one of the 190 Delegates, agreed to share her perspective, and her article is included. Here in Albany, I am seeing the faces of many new hires. If you or someone you know are new to PEF, please stop down to the Union office, Building 8, room 80, We will be holding new member meetings in the future. Also, check out our upcoming Membership Benefits Fairs. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to get more involved, please stop down to the office.
In Solidarity,
Joe

Day 2: Secretary Treasurer Kay Wilkie gave an open and informative review of PEF Finances. Many thanks to Kay, and the Finance and Divisions staffs, for all of their hard work. VP Sharon Desilva was En fuego! She spoke about the necessity of holding Management accountable, especially during this crises. VP Randy DiAntonio made a presentation about how we need to be ready to mobilize, in order to get the word out, to both Members and our Representatives, that PEF is ready to GET IT DONE!
Day 1: What a day! Just like yesterday, with the resolution committee meetings, things got off to a rocky start. Although not perfect, it is immensely satisfying to see so many people, both Delegates and Staff, working so hard to make this convention successful. Thanks to all.
