Thronateeska Heritage Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1974 for the purpose of historic preservation and science education in Albany and Southwest Georgia. Thronateeska is located at Heritage Plaza, the 100 block of West Roosevelt Avenue in Albany, on the only remaining brick street in the city. Thronateeska's campus includes a history museum, science museum, rail car display, and a 40' full dome HD planetarium system, the first in the world of its kind. The museum facilities are housed in historic structures and new construction designed to reflect and retain the railroad heritage of the area. New to Thronateeska is the archives and collections department, which catalogues, stores, and cares for all of the collections at Thronateeska, and is open to the public for research purposes.

Board Members and Directors from all three organizations making up the Artesian Alliance gathered for a productive retreat last weekend as a continuation of the Strategic Planning Process started in June. We made measurable progress towards our overarching goal of establishing a strategic business and development plan that will guide us when making decisions and plans for the future of these organizations. Thank you to Felis Consulting for facilitating a dynamic and motivating session! We are excited to see what the future holds for all three organizations as well as the Artesian Alliance itself.

We are still gathering valuable input from the community and potential visitors as we move forward. If you are able, please complete the virtual workshop here: https://www.felisconsulting.com/workshop The password is: alliance

The Artesian Alliance includes some of the areas most beloved and well used attractions-Thronateeska Heritage Center, Chehaw Park & Zoo, and the Flint RiverQuarium. Even so, we feel that the Alliance is only beginning to glimpse its tremendous potential as a community asset. Evaluation and development of a clear path forward is the most effective way of ensuring continued positive progress towards realizing that potential. In other words, the Artesian Alliance needs a strategic plan. The Alliance hired Felis Consulting to begin the strategic planning process in June. The overarching goal is to develop a strategic business and development plan that will guide staff when making decisions and plans for the future of the organizations. It will ensure that those plans are the best options for community interests, animal care, and the mission of each organization.

Input from the public is a critically vital first step in the development of this plan. Your participation in the questionnaire linked below will provide valuable information to the strategic planning process. It will help us understand residents’ and tourists’ likes and dislikes of our current leisure time attractions, and allow you to make suggestions about our future. Feel free to share with others and thank you for your continued support and participation.

Our friends at the Flint RiverQuarium are opening this Friday!

The day we've all been waiting for! We are excited to announce that the Flint RiverQuarium will be reopening Friday, July 10, at 10 am! Guests should be aware that some recent construction projects are ongoing, but all exhibits will be open. The Flint RiverQuarium also has recently expanded Sunday hours. Going forward, the aquarium will be open Tuesday-Sunday from 10 am-5pm and closed on Monday. We can't wait to welcome you back!

As part of our commitment to the continued well-being of our guests, team members, and the animals in our care, and in ongoing efforts to assist our community in preventing the spread of COVID-19, we have implemented enhanced protocols and procedures.

• Guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks, especially during check-in and while interacting with Flint RiverQuarium staff. If guests do not have a face mask, disposable face masks will be available at the ticket office.

• Flint RiverQuarium team members will be wearing masks.

• We are frequently cleaning and disinfecting touchpoints, restroom touchpoints and restrooms using a solution approved by the CDC.

• We are doing all we can to promote a healthy environment, and, in doing so, we also rely on our guests to keep recommended self-care in mind for their safety and the safety of others.

• If any member of a visiting party is feeling unwell, please visit us another time.

• Do not gather in groups of more than 10.

• Help us promote social distancing by remaining at least six feet away from others who are not within the same party.

• Wash hands often, using soap and water, for a minimum of 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, the CDC recommends a hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. Sanitizing stations are available in the lobbies of the Flint RiverQuarium and the Imagination Theater.

• Government health organizations currently recommend that persons ages 65 and older, persons who reside in senior care facilities or long-term care facilities, or persons with underlying medical conditions stay home or maintain distance from others.

Railway Express Agency (REA) was built around the same time as the Union Depot (early 1900’s). The agency shipped packages and freight...think okd-timey FedEx or UPS.

The REA had their own cars in trains. The first train on the track, on display here now, was an REA car, and shipped all manner of parcels and packages.

What is this lamp called? It has fingers of electricity that run through it, and come to your finger when you touch it. I want to purchase another one, but don't know the name. Thanks
Had fun showing the kids all the different things albany has to offer. Thank you letting us be part.
I wish there was more stuff for 3 year olds to do as well! My kid's age range for the older ones is 3-10 and there's nothing they can all do together. :(
Do I need to bring glasses to party or will try be available that day?
We had a great time at the Science Museum today learning about the upcoming eclipse and forced perspective.
