There are three things to notice in this photo.

The patch on the dog's vest that says, "please do not pet me, I'm working", the dog's paw outstretched and placed in someone's hand who isn't their handler's, and where the dog is looking.

We teach all of our veterans, and first responders how to introduce their dog's to others if they choose to by using the "shake" cue.

We teach all of our dog's to maintain eye contact, and focus on their handler during this interaction.

A service dog should never be touched, or interacted with unless given permission from the handler.

Marine vet who crawled to Boston Marathon finish: Running saved my life

As Marine veteran Micah Herndon dropped to his knees and began crawling in Monday's Boston Marathon, there was no way the pain in his legs was going to stop him from crossing the finish line.

"I just hope that what everyone gets out of this whole message, is to bring awareness to PTSD and all the other issues that come from war, and not to be ashamed of it if you're a veteran. I know I'm not. Those are my battle scars, and I'm not afraid of that."

Today, we remember President George H.W. Bush and the profound impact he made on the lives of individuals with disabilities. In 1990, President Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act, guaranteeing that all people with disabilities have equal rights in all areas of public life as those without disabilities.

“This act is powerful in its simplicity. It will ensure that people with disabilities are given the basic guarantees for which they have worked so long and so hard: independence, freedom of choice, control of their lives, the opportunity to blend fully and equally into the rich mosaic of the American mainstream. Legally, it will provide our disabled community with a powerful expansion of protections and then basic civil rights. It will guarantee fair and just access to the fruits of American life which we all must be able to enjoy." - George H.W. Bush

On behalf of the those we serve, thank you for paving the way to a more inclusive world for #pwd.
