Family looks for 'positive direction' after killing of Fargo middle schooler | INFORUM

For five days, Robert Paulsen rarely left his daughterโ€™s side as she struggled for life. His daughter, Jupiter, a Middle School student preparing for high school, died June 8 after being repeatedly stabbed in a random attack.
In the midst of great loss, tragedy, and sorrow, her family was able to look beyond their pain and make the heroic decision to support organ and tissue donation. Jupiter became an organ donor ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š #donatelifecdt #organdonorsareheroes

Jupiter Paulsen was a girl with many talents, her family said. She played viola in orchestra class. She learned how to play guitar. She was an artist, enjoyed poetry, loved nature and just started working at a nearby Arbyโ€™s restaurant when she was killed.

CORE: WEST VIRGINIA MAN BECOMES OLDEST ORGAN DONOR IN U.S. HISTORY

Sharing this post from Center for Organ Recovery and Education:
It is with great pride that we share the monumental news that CORE recently recovered the liver from the oldest recorded organ donor in United States history, as confirmed by the United Network for Organ Sharing โ€” 95-year-old Cecil F. Lockhart of Welch, West Virginia. Read more about this historic milestone: https://bit.ly/3hnrUFk
โ€œCORE is incredibly proud to have been able to make this historic organ donation possible,โ€ said Susan Stuart, CORE president & CEO. โ€œThis landmark in the field of transplantation is just another example of COREโ€™s pioneering legacy and commitment to innovation, which, over the last 40 years, has given 6,000 people in the United States the opportunity to save more than 15,000 others as organ donors.โ€

This is Connor, she was an amazing young woman who helped everyone she met. Tragically her life ended in June of 2019 due to a bilateral pulmonary embolism. She was just 20 years old. Even in death Connor was a giving person. Connor was a tissue donor who to date has helped 24 people and her gifts will continue to help others. Her mother Jennifer writes โ€œI have to do this today because tomorrow is too hard. 22 years ago tomorrow was the best day of my life. I was 26 years old. You made me your momma. It was the Saturday before Mother's day just like tomorrow is. You were 5 days late. I was over it. It was so time to meet you. It was a rainy gloomy day. I was induced at 12:30 my midwife said "oh this takes a long time you won't have her for like 12-13 hours from now." That's all she had to say to me. I remember telling my midwife if you think Iโ€™m staying Ike this for that long your crazy. Just three hours later it stopped raining and the sun was so bright. Connor Mackenzie came into this world at 3:30pm. Connor, you are my sunshine on a rainy day. Connor was born not crying. She was just calm. Now I think she was thinking โ€œok I'm here and I only have 20 years so let's not waste it crying!โ€ And she didn't, at all. Connor I made you from scratch. I hand built you from nothing but pure love. You are my best I have and ever will do. Happy 22nd birthday tomorrow."

This is a Gift of Life Story written by Shelly Levchak, her son is CJ. He's a true HERO who saved 4 people's lives through organ donation.

On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, I received a phone call from my son's friend Joe telling me that CJ was rushed to the emergency room. Not realizing it yet, it was also the moment that life as we knew it was over. C.J. was only 26 years old and our only child. What we saw when we walked into the emergency room was our beautiful son hooked up to a respirator.

It was 3:00 am when the staff prepared to take CJ to the ICU. We wanted to believe that he was going to make it but in our hearts we knew better. The following day tests were taken and we learned that our son was brain dead. It was at that time that they asked us
if we would like to donate C.J's organs. Without even discussing it we just looked at each other and said "yes". C.J. was a very giving young man and would have wanted this.

C.J.'s Aunt Betty was in need of a kidney and was on the transplant list. We asked if we could see if CJ was a match for her. They told us not to get our hopes up the likely hood was extremely low that they would be a perfect match. The following day Aunt Betty walked into the room and gave us a thumbs up. She was a match for his kidney. It was such a bittersweet moment. I don't think we realized what a wonderful moment it was at the time. All we could focus on was losing our precious son and being in disbelief that this was even happening to us. It has been almost 5 years now and Betty is doing wonderful. We have a bond that will never be broken. C.J. loved his Aunt dearly and a miracle has happened. We will always have a part of our son near us.

C.J. was also able to donate his other kidney, liver and his heart. We were fortunate enough to hear from his other kidney recipient and hope to hear from his heart recipient in the future. Binghamton General Hospital held a flag raising for him because he was the first donor in 11 years that had donated his organs. Our son is gone but part of him still lives on and he will never be forgotten.
You can register your decision to be an organ donor at www.cdtnyvt.org.

Hello we need help plus๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
Hi, Iโ€™m Sam Sobieski and Iโ€™m reaching out on behalf of Three Lakes Foundation (TLF), a nonprofit focused on helping fund research for pulmonary fibrosis. The TLF has produced a documentary focused on Nick Brown, a double lung transplant recipient who had pulmonary fibrosis. If youโ€™d like to share this video with you followers to share the power of organ donation and to encourage them to register to become an organ donor, please use this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y6Fr7UF41g Thanks!
First, let me say thank you for including me. My husband has late stage cirrhosis from PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis), a rare autoimmune disorder. I started the petition below which has garnered 5300 names in just two weeks which has gotten the attention of UNOS. Since our country has an "Opt-In" organ donor system (meaning that you have to indicate informed consent on your driver's license or donor registry), the United States has far less people willing to donate their organs should they be eligible leading to a long waitlist where many people die before getting an organ. By the way, the chances of being an actual donor are very slim. Since we can't even get people to consider others by wearing a mask during a pandemic, I doubt the U.S. will ever switch to a system like Singapore, where not only do they have "presumed consent" but if you decide to "opt out" then if YOU ever need an organ, you will be placed at a lower priority. This makes sense. You receive when you are willing to give. While I alone cannot change an entire system, I am doing everything I can to amend the liver transplant scoring system (called MELD score) so that people with my husband's rare autoimmune disease can get to a higher priority on the waitlist before developing life threatening complications. The new Acuity Circle liver allocation policy will help some and hurt others, but now SCORE matters EVEN MORE. Thank you for reading, signing, and sharing!
Hi, I'm looking on my mom's behalf for info on upcoming Donor Memorial Slideshow. I can't seem to find anything on this page or on upcoming events. Thanks. (Freja for Carolyn Kircher)
Thanks so much to the town of Binghamton for flying our flags in April for Donate Life Month ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™
I am a donor mom who is incredibly grateful that my daughterโ€™s liver saved the life of a 40-year old education teacher. Never would I have expected that our decision โ€” on the worst day of our lives โ€” to be so healing and provide so much hope. Check out my recent article in TransplantNation magazine and please share. #Transplant Life Foundation
Dad was an organ donor, and we were able to honor his wishes. I urge you, if your religious beliefs do not prevent this, please consider organ or tissue donation. This will be dad's last gift. From a friend of mine whose Dad passed away on Monday. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family.
