From another time. Being a member of the Safety Patrol use to mean a lot more than it is today. Free movie passes and the prized "Membership card" that you are paty of the "elite". An Officers card , among your peers, was the next best thing to a movie pass. Most movie theaters honored them for free admission rather than print another card. Some were awarded only to the Patrol Person of the month and only good for a month. Woolworth use to give a free fountain drink, some stores offered discounts for shoes or raingear, Free candy bars or ice cream. But then again we were allowed to stop traffic, escort small kids home, watch traffic when school trips were popular. Every class that walked to a trip or outing had 2-3 Patrol kids running ahead of the class and manning their posts as the class crossed the street, We stood in the middle of the road with our hands in back and just stood there blocking any cars from trying to use the roads. I guess now-a-days insurance liability even prevent kids from going outside the building much less standing on a corner and the practice of stopping traffic is considered to be urban legend. Most cities have turned it into adult crossing guards with pay and even unions.

Lake Ridge Elementary School - Safety Patrols Overview

We have a wonderful group of Patrols and Substitute Patrols this school year. We have meetings once a month for our 5th grade patrols and start each meeting saying our patrol pledge while our Patrol Coordinator, Ms. Tart, comes and teaches us about safety and answers any questions our patrols have.

Anyone collect? Always looking for badges with the school name on them.
Dana JHS San Diego circa 1941
My School Safety Patrol badges from the mid 1950's from Euclid Elementary School in San Diego. Anyone else go into law enforcement? I did three years as a cop and thirty-four in the Marshals Service.
I collect old named School Safety Patrol badges and Junior Police badges with the agency name. Here's one from approximately 1941, from Dana Jr. High / Middle School in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. They used Navy ranks instead of the usual police or army ranks. A full sized badge hallmarked by the Los Angeles Rubber Stamp Company. Looking for more.
I am wondering about a safety Patrol badge with AAA attached to the front ( not Stamped) what can you tell me about the vintage?
