Review: In Chicago, a team of Black rowers reunites to inspire community
Arshay Cooper reunites his Chicago crew 20 years after they became the first all-Black high school rowing team in Mary Mazzio's documentary "A Most Beautiful Thing."
Given our focus on singles... it’s always a good idea to watch the best of the best in action.

Sobering article for anyone who has the thought you can let your guard down.
A physical therapist brought the virus to rowers who were training to make the U.S. Olympic team, and the athletes said it “knocked us down pretty hard.”
When the weather comes...we erg. ☔️🌊 #rowing
Something to consider.

FISHGUARD and Goodwick Jemima Rowing Club's oldest member, 92-year-old Val Coleman has broken another world record.
We are thrilled to announce we WILL be holding our summer camp program! Landon Thompson will be heading up the program. Our Junior Rowing Summer Camp Program offers instruction in rowing to boys and girls entering 6th to 12th grade (ages 11 to 18). ARC teaches young athletes about the sport of rowing through participation in a fun and educational setting. Students will learn water and boat safety, stroke mechanics on the ergometer (rowing machine) and the basic techniques of sweep rowing and sculling. While the majority of time is spent on the water, there is also fitness training on land and education about boats and equipment. Campers learn how to work as a team. Those who would like to continue rowing may join the competitive rowing program.

Another step forward!! Since the main dock would take too many people to safely assembly and install, the smaller dock will have to do and we’re grateful for it! We are also grateful to the following people for once again giving of their time and experience to get it done:
We want to extend our thanks to Albany Fire Department for coming down to the boathouse this morning and filling up our water tanks. Having those filled is a crucial step in allowing us to operate safely. We appreciate their support! #albanyfiredepartment @ Albany Corning Preserve

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, USRowing is announcing the cancellation of both the 2020 USRowing National Championships scheduled for July and the 2020 USRowing Masters National Championships, originally scheduled for August. http://ow.ly/1jyd50zzXZP
Normally, #givingtuesdaynow is held the day after Thanksgiving but the Coronavirus pandemic has prompted the need for non profits everywhere to make that important day be TODAY.
As with many businesses, Albany Rowing Center has been effected by this pandemic. Delaying programming, furloughing coaching staff and taking a big bite out of budgeting is just a start of the hit we’ve taken as an organization.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation by following the link below.
Keeping our community healthy and active, building important life skills in our youth and helping keep some vibrancy to Albany’s most valuable resource (the Hudson River) are just a few of the reasons why this organization is so important to Albany.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for anything you can give. We wish you good health!

Today is #EarthDay 🌎 While most of us are still staying inside, we reflect on how lucky we are to practice a sport that depends on nature.
Rowing is a sport that requires clean water and clean air. We are mindful of protecting the environment on which we must rely to carry on our sport.
How are you celebrating Earth Day?
Some helpful tips on erg maintenance since we will continue spending time on them. 😐
Like many of us, you're probably spending a lot of time indoors, hunkering down and navigating the "new normal." Our partners at C2 have provided a few simple things to look for to ensure your machines are fully functioning and ready to go! http://ow.ly/fzEr50zg3u8
“Be a good coach to yourself” - a reminder.
💥 BE A GOOD COACH TO YOURSELF 💥
Want to play with confidence? Want to stay motivated through these tough times?
If you do, then you have to get into the habit of being a good coach to yourself.
What do I mean?
How do you think a good coach would treat you when you mess up? Would they yell at you, put you down, or embarrass you in front of your teammates? Would they tell you that you were a loser and had no talent? No way!
Instead they'd be supportive, remain positive and encourage you. They'd build your confidence up by telling you to learn from your mistakes and then leave them behind you. They'd reassure you that you were a good player and that they believed in you.
Unfortunately, far too many athletes trash themselves whenever they mess up. They are incredibly bad coaches to themselves and can't seem to understand why they end up feeling such low confidence and playing poorly.
You'd never coach a teammate or best friend the way you sometimes do to yourself.
Start right now being a supportive and positive coach to yourself and you'll find both your self-confidence and motivation growing.
Practice this now and often, so when you are back training and competing at that high level you have easy access to feeling confident and performing your best!
