We just finished the first Sick Pups meeting since January, on Zoom. Turnout was limited, but it was good to see some Pups who are not able to make meetings in person. It was a productive meeting. Thanks to those who could make it and many, many THANKS to Mike Bruno for making his Zoom account available.

We'll be scheduling more meetings using Zoom in the next few months. Stay tuned.

The agenda for next Saturday’s meeting is on the web site, thanks to Sue Toker’s efforts. Go to the home page, http://ww...

Anybody know someone in the group or in the area that specializes in Renaissance-type dress making? Dying to do a mother daughter Rapunzel/Mother Goethel cosplay but the degree of accuracy I want is WAY beyond my time and abilities. No specific con/deadline, but wanted to see if I can get the commission ball rolling. 😛

07/29/2017

Are there any Pups active in the Upstate NY Cosplay Society?

07/28/2017

Marcy Huston is no longer our treasurer. Tina Connell will serve as interim treasurer, in addition to serving as recording secretary, until we can elect a new treasurer at our December 2 meeting.

I have created the Sick Pups as a Facebook group associated with this page and have added you to it if you're a Pup and on Facebook. If you don't want to be part of the group, please let me know. Byron

Our next meeting is September 16 at Diane's house in Kendall Park, NJ. The one after that will be December 2 at the Hyatt House White Plains in West Harrison, NY. This ought to be a more convenient venue for Pups in New York and New England, while not being too difficult to get to for Pups elsewhere. It’s right off an Interstate feeder to the NY Thruway. We will hold election of officers at the 12/2 meeting.

Mark your calendars!

We hd a good meeting on Saturday. We missed those who weren't there.

Our meeting on Saturday (5/6) is canceled. Earlier this week, Heidi was injured in an accident at home. I understand that she is recovering; however, she’s unable to host the meeting on Saturday, as scheduled.

Rather than move the meeting to a different location for what probably would be only three or four Pups in addition to Tina and me, as Prez I have decided to cancel the meeting.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, July 15. I believe it will be at Diane’s in Kendall Park, NJ.

Happy Hanukkah! Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

12/05/2016

Our next two meetings are March 4, in Albany, NY, and May 6, in Stroudsburg, PA.

There were only four Pups at yesterday’s meeting, so we made only a tentative choice of a date and venue for a summer meeting: July 22 in Albany, NY. Some of us had conflicts for other Saturdays in June and July and we wanted to avoid August, because of various conventions that month. I ask Pups, please get back to me with your thoughts about that date and location, how the date works for you, how the location works for you, and what alternatives you might suggest.

Hello Pups! I am working with Denise Cutair , to try to coordinate some Balticon Virtual costume-related programming. Balticon asked me to do a Miss Lizzy presentation, and when I agreed to, they would like some other costume programming. I'm willing to be a panelist on one other panel, and that will probably be "Costume Mistakes & Failures and What Was Learned From Them" (always a good topic since we ALL have numerous examples). ANYWAY, I'm willing to moderate that (not married to moderating but willing) and she wants me to try to interest others in becoming panelists for costume items. Here is a tentative list of possible items if panelists can be enlisted to help: Cross Cultural Costuming Make up Costuming on the Cheap Horns, Tails, Claws and Paws Wings and Wands Jedi and Star Wars Fursuit Construction Costume Mistakes & Failures and What Was Learned from Them Please contact her at the above email address if you would be interested in being on a panel. IT's going to be run via Zoom. If you have other panel suggestions she is very open to it. Merrily Wolf I did mention your name and that your daughter (did not give her name) was great at makeup--Denise is especially interested in items that will appeal to teens and/or children. I will pass along your email address if you allow. Balticon is also using the Zambia system now, but it seems to be more for keeping a record of contact info and availability. Hope many of you volunteer!!
For anyone within range of Enfield, Connecticut - Brooks Brothers' bankruptcy has resulted in a warehouse filled with store and factory detritus, including male mannequins, heavy-duty sewing machines, and a whole forest of fake Christmas trees. All for sale, cheap. The folks who own the warehouse have been screwed over by the bankruptcy and are having to sell their house to have the warehouse cleared. UPDATE: here's the address and hours and all, received directly from Ms. LaBonte (owner): 53 Manning Road, Enfield, CT. Door # 7 Open 10-4. Closed Sunday. Pick up only. Liquidator is Mike Riley, 860-614-4099
We have been trying to come up with workshop ideas and were struggling with them when we were meeting in person. Now that we are meeting online, we need to rethink not only what kind of workshops we want to hold, but also how to present them on Zoom. The one advantage online meetings have over in person meetings is that we can reach a larger audience. Distance is no longer a limitation either for workshop attendees or for possible presenters. In the meeting on January 23 we would like to discuss possible workshop ideas. Any ideas, no matter how crazy, will be welcome for brainstorming. Please try to think of some between now and the meeting, especially if you have something you can present.
Hello! Costume On is back- Costume On 2: Tailored class roster is up. All online with live teachers. :) Schedule and registration coming soon! Hopefully, next year we can have workshops in-person, too. (Western NY) www.1886location.com/costumeonclasses
I thought this was fascinating.
FYI :)
I shared this with the group, also.
Okay folks. I'm contemplating a life changing experience.... The old Domestic Model 151 has served me, my mother and her mother for between 70 and 80 years, and while it has many fond memories, including sewing at least wedding dresses it's time to buy a new sewing machine. The problem is, the variety is insane. I'm looking for reliability, easy of use, and a decent number of stitches including buttonholer and stretch stitches. there seems to be a couple of price plateaus and I guess I'm looking in the $3-500 range. Singer, Brother and Viking seem to be the most popular and I was hoping to get some advice from people who love their machines. Thanks
Looking for a friend... if anyone has a membership to CC that they wish to sell... kindly let me know. Thanks!
When and where is the next meeting? Just fyi, we are going to be tearing up our kitchen in Sept. so if it's at my house, we'll need to move it.
I am seeking info or tips on make costume armour; am thinking of duct tape over tshirts, my theatre group is doing pippen so not looking for a long run, but looking for flexiable....can any one offer tips or suggestions on how to work them or a better way, we have all body types....
As a reminder, Greater Delaware Valley Costumers Guild is having their pot luck holiday party Saturday starting at 3PM at my house. You are all invited. If you need my address, please PM me. There are 2 feline overlords that rule my house. Thanks and happy holidays Suzanne
