The next Covid-19 Relief Food Boxes will be distributed the week of June 29th.

Ajo Covid-19 Food Relief Program Update: 1,220 boxes were built and distributed this week with produce (both donated and purchased), dried goods and canned goods. Average weight of the box continues to be around 25 lbs, and we are now learning that these boxes provide even more than 10 meals for families each. That means that this week alone we have distributed more than 30,000 lbs of food, and provided more than 12,200 meals. The partners have also been working hard to find a temporary solution for Ajo Food Pantry as the current pantry at the Rock Church is closing at the end of the month. We continue to be grateful to our staff, volunteers and all the community partners including Ajo Community Market, Desert Senita Community Health Center, Ajo Unified School District #15 Cafeteria, Ajo Food Pantry, Ajo Assembly of God, Ajo Improvement Company, Ajo Landfill, Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Senior Services and Tohono O’odham Nation districts. And none of this would be possible without the support and funding by Pima County, Pima County Housing Center, Supervisor Sharon Bronson, United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Vitalyst Health Foundation AZ, Arizona Community Foundation, Freeport-McMoRan, Arizona Food Bank Network, Union of Concerned Scientists. Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona - thank you!! Please note there will be no distribution next week but we will return on June 30, July 1 and July 2. stay safe!! #goodfoodforall #ajocsa #ajo #tphonoodham #covid19

ISDA GED Program and Learning Center

Update:
The ISDA Community Learning Center and GED Program is reopening for one-on-one, face-to-face meetings with students.
This will enable students to register and enroll in the Pima Community College online GED classes. Qualifying students will be able to check-out a notebook computer for their studies, and will then be able to work from wherever they have an internet connection.
In the interest of public safety, students need to call the Learning Center to schedule an appointment, and will be required to wear a mask, and take their temperature upon entering the building. Disposable masks are provided, and we have a touch-less, infrared thermometer at the door along with hand sanitizer.
We can be reached at 520-387-3364
I am glad to be able to offer our services to new students once again, and look forward to helping folks achieve their educational goals.

Ducks and Drones - SciStarter

Can you tell a bird apart from a rock? A duck from a crane? If so, here's a great opportunity to support citizen science in the Sonoran Desert by training a computer algorithm to count birds.

The Center for the Advancement of Spatial Informatics Research and Education (ASPIRE) at the University of New Mexico is collaborating with US Fish and Wildlife to develop an algorithm to automatically count and identify birds from drone imagery. We're hoping to create a more efficient + accurate pr...

All are welcome, no matter your faith or belief system. Maybe you believe simply in community and the power of the human spirit. Together, we join on a journey that honors everywhere we’ve been before. Beliefs are diverse and inclusive. We have no shared creed. We are united in our broad and inclusive outlook, and in our shared values. Direct experience of the transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the mysterious forces which create and uphold life. Words and deeds of prophetic people which challenge us to confront powers and institutions of oppression with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love; (from the likes of Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, Gandhi, Emmet Fox, Bill & Bob of AA and Martin Luther King). Wisdom in allegory and meaningful motifs from the world's religions and belief systems can inspire us in our ethical and spiritual life; teachings which call us to respond to the Creator’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves; and Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science. Spiritual teachings of Earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. Unitarians have a legacy of “deeds not creeds”, working for a better world with action, but firstly within ourselves. Excerpts from UUA.org
