Last Friday was a special day for the Addison Rotary Club. The club honored Karen Gamble, sister of Wallace Wade. Mr. Wade was a Rotarian for many years and recently passed. He made two very generous estate gifts to both the Addison Rotary Club and Rotary International, respectively.

The Addison Rotary Club created the Wallace Wade Endowment held at Communities Foundation of Texas. This $250,000 endowment will provide area nonprofit organizations with funds to advance their work for generations to come.

Mr. Wade was recognized as a member of the Arch Klumph Society of Rotary International as a result of his $250,000 estate gift. His contribution to RI will transform lives throughout the world.

Addison Rotary Club is forever grateful to Wallace for his selflessness, desire to serve others in need, and for his lasting generosity. All are welcome to visit the Addison Rotary Club and see for yourself how our members work to improve our community! We meet at 7:30 am each Friday at Lawry's The Prime Rib - Dallas.

In the picture (L to R): Mike Ray (immediate ARC Past President), Shelley Hill (major gift officer for Rotary International), Bill Slicker (Chair of the Arch Klumph Society), Karen Gamble and husband, Ted Gamble, and Diane Fullingim (current ARC President).

While working in the US Secret Service, Darin Kinder's life was put to risk, when the building directly across the street was attacked on September 11, 2001. In fact, Darin Kinder was helping people evacuate the World Trade Center and was inside the building just thirteen minutes before it collapsed. He shares a compelling testimony of what the tragic day entailed for him and reflects on the lessons it has taught him. Darin has been awarded the Secret Service's Medal of Valor for heroism and still works as a Secret Service agent.

Addison Rotarians are always eager to help out neighbors in need. From Wednesday's volunteer shift at Metrocrest Food Pantry. Last week's winter storm only accentuated the need for immediate relief as power outages forced many to toss what food they had in their refridgerator and freezer.

This is what Rotary is all about - assisting those in need, building communities, improving lives. You want to be part of something bigger than you - check out Addison Rotary!

I’d like to make myself available as a speaker at an upcoming meeting of the Addison Rotary Club. My topic would be the 2007-2009 Financial Crisis. I would in no way be pitching a product or service. In the past two years, I’ve spoken to the Arlington Highlands Rotary Club, the Dallas Trinity Rotary Club, as well as five Kiwanis clubs. Please let me know if you’re interested in having me as a speaker. Thank you.
