July is usually the busiest month for fairs, but this year, more than 50 percent have been cancelled -- with more added to the list each day.
It has a major economic impact on communities, especially rural areas. Fairs generate more than $4.7 billion in revenue annually with about 100-150 million people attending, according to IAFE-The Network.
Some fairs have been cancelled for the first time since World War II, including the Iowa State Fair.
