It is with much sadness that we share with you that this year our council will not be holding traditional day camp or STEAM camp. Miss Leah and a team of volunteers carefully went through the state guidelines for day camp, and after much deliberation and careful consideration, it was decided that we could not provide the quality program and fun atmosphere that our scouts deserve, while complying with the guidelines. The safety of our campers and volunteers (and their family members) will always be our first priority.
We are currently working on alternatives to the traditional in person day camp, and hope to have more details on that next week.
Thank you for your understanding! We miss all our scouts and families, and are anxiously looking forward to the next time we can all be together again. Until then, be safe, stay healthy, and scout on!

Join us Wednesday at 1:00 for the Foil Boat Challenge!

Miss Nicole will lead us in designing and creating tin foil boats, and then we’ll put our boats in water, and see how many pennies (or other small objects) they can hold before they sink!
Will your boat hold more items than Miss Nicole’s?? We can’t wait to find out!! 😊

Be safe, stay healthy, and scout on!

Miss Leah needs your help! Camp Nutter and York District have new squirrel friends that don't have names yet. Do any of our amazing campers and friends have name suggestions for each squirrel? If so, please share your suggestions in the comments section of the original post! Thank you!!! :)

Help Needed:

Hello York District Families and Friends!

I hope you are all doing well. I'm looking for some scouts that might be willing to help me with a simple task.

See, we've had two new visitors show up at Camp Nutter lately. One is a gray squirrel who was first seen enjoying an acorn by the fireplace in Kiwanis. The other visitor was a brown squirrel who was first seen by the waterfront trying to make friends with Kittywampus. I have a feeling we'll be seeing these 2 new friends around Camp Nutter but also at other district events, and I'd like to be able to call them something other than gray squirrel and brown squirrel.

This is what I need your help: giving each of these new friends a name. I know we have some very imaginative scouts out there, and so I'm asking scouts to suggest a name for our gray friend and a name for our brown friend, and post them in the comments below. I'll be taking suggestions until Saturday April 25th.

Then, at our next virtual District Committee meeting, I will share the names with our committee members and ask them to vote on the suggestions.

Thanks in advance for all your name suggestions!!
Be Safe, Stay Healthy, and Scout On!!
-Miss Leah :)

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness.... we are just 89 days away from our first week of Cub Scout Day Camp!! We are sooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!

Have you registered your Cub Scout for Day Camp yet? If not it takes just a few minutes to do so. You can register at:

https://scoutingevent.com/218-2020PTCDayCamps

For families who want to send your scout to Day Camp, but are trying to figure out how to fit it in your budget, we have extended our early bird deadline, to hopefully make things easier on you.
**The deadline is now 30 days before the start of your scout's camp week.**

BUT we do ask that you register your scout as soon as possible, even if you cannot pay right away, so our directors have accurate numbers for planning purposes, making sure we have enough program supplies for all of our campers, and to make sure we have accurate numbers for ordering T-shirts and patches.

PS- Please share the following joke with your scouts and share their answers in the comments. And then check back tomorrow for our answer.

Joke: **How does a farmer count his cows?**

Don't forget- the Special Edition of Jamboree on the Internet is happening this weekend!! Click below for more information and to register your scout (and/ or yourself) today!

****************************************************************************
Today, young people in many countries are facing challenges in their local communities because of the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Schools have closed and other activities have been put on hold.

It is very important that all Scouts and young people stay safe by avoiding public spaces and crowded places, making sure to wash our hands regularly and following other good practices. But staying safe doesn’t mean we can’t have fun, continue learning or make new friends!

This special edition of JOTI is a safe space, connecting young people like you, from around the world at a time when many of us are at home, unable to attend school or regular activities.

You can sign up for different activities throughout the weekend of 3rd April — from e-learning courses on health, well-being and online safety to learning about different cultures. You can play games and lead fun activities as well as doing what you can to support those in need. Let’s have each other’s back, support our friends, and make this world a little brighter.

This is a special edition of our largest digital Jamboree, JOTA-JOTI, that takes place every year in October. You will still be able to enjoy JOTA-JOTI this October as usual.

However, our special JOTI on 3-5 April, will allow you to connect with others, learn new skills and build new friendships from the comfort of our homes during this challenging time, when we need each other the most.

As youth, we are resilient, prepared, and eager to learn, so together let’s turn this challenging time into an opportunity and connect millions of young people around the world in a safe space for all.

Ok Scouts, we're having a campfire on Friday. A social distancing approved, Scout's Campfire with people from across the country.

Here's how to participate:

1. Brainstorm with your family and come up with a joke, skit, or song you want to share at the Campfire. (Scout Appropriate, Rated G only, Cub Scouts and little siblings will be watching this)
2. Work with your parents to film the submission on a camera and upload it to your parent's (or your own) social media accounts. Bonus bragging rights if you are in uniform or costumes. Use #CampfireFridayBSA in the post.
3. On Friday night, gather your family, and use the hashtag to search for everyone's videos. Share your favorites.

Can any of our Camp Nutter Families assist with either of these activities?

Help Needed (please)!!!

Hello York District Scouters, Families, and Friends!
Pine Tree Council has 2 fundraising activities coming up, and we could really use your help. We sent this information out via previously, but also wanted to share it here. If you can assist with either of these, or have any questions, please email Leah at [email protected]. Thanks! :)

MSSE BASKET AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED:

Council has tasked each district with putting together a basket (or other container/ vessel for holding items) that will be included in the MSSE Auction next week. The theme for this basket is "love of our district". Some examples of items could be gift cards, Camp Nutter swag, gear/ apparel from York District businesses, books by authors from our area, or anything else that represents York District. There is no right or wrong item, and the more items the better. :)

We have already had a few individuals/ organizations/ businesses offer to donate items, but could still use more. If anyone would like to donate items for the basket or has connections to businesses that might be willing to donate items, please email Leah ASAP and let her know, so she can work on contacting them as she will need to turn the basket in to Council by Wednesday,

Any help/ donations you can provide will be greatly appreciated. We members of York District know how much we love our district, let's make sure everyone else knows it as well! :)

WALK_A_THON

The Walk-A-Thon is being held on Saturday, September 28th, 2019. This 5 mile walk will be held in Augusta. There will be multiple check points with obstacles and puzzles needing to be completed before continuing the walk. This event is sure to provide you with multiple belt loop and merit badge requirements. Units having 12 or more scouts & family members registered for the walk will all receive flint and steel! All registration fees include access to water, a patch, overnight accommodations at Camp Bomazeen in Belgrade, Maine along with a light breakfast. All Maine residents must bring their own tent.

The link to register is: https://runsignup.com/Race/ME/Augusta/PineTreeCouncilsWalkForScouts

Also, PTC is asking for 5 volunteers from each district to help with the walk-a-thon. We are looking for folks to help do the following: go get sponsors, find troops to diligently operate a checkpoint using the specific guidelines that will eb provided, help with cooking a BBQ dinner the day of, and help Camp Bomazeen with any preparations, etc. If anyone is willing/ able to help with this, please let Leah know ASAP!

Thank you for your help with these activities, and for all you do for our Scouts!! :)
