SALTO-YOUTH - European Training Calendar - Online Study visit: the Social Inclusion of Roma through Participation

Intolerant attitudes and racism toward the Roma are pervasive throughout the Europe. The annuals reports of EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies up to 2020 noted significant parts of the Roma population continue to struggle with challenges we like to believe no longer exist in the EU. Homes without running water or electricity, lack of health insurance, high rate of long term unemployed, not included in Vocational Educational and Training activities, segregation in the school, difficulties to get access to justice and effective remedies, ethnic profiling, hate speech and hate crimes including physical attacks, police abuses and victimization, continue to be realities for unacceptable shares of the Roma community.

What Is International Women's Day?

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 – but why is this day important? What does the day signify? This Miniclip explores the origins of women’s suffrage throughout the United Kingdom’s modern history including the impact of World War I on women's rights and the granting of voting rights for women. It also discusses damaging stereotypes for both girls and boys, the presence of gender inequality that still exists today, and how to celebrate the women in your own life.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Marcel Courthiade’s passing.

He was a great supporter of FERYP and is part of our history.
Marcel was an inspiration and he will be greatly missed, but his legacy will last forever.

Everyone who came into his contact; whether an activist, Roma or non Roma, felt his warmth and established a direct bond with him forever.

His touch is visible everywhere in Roma history and above all is felt in our hearts.

Thank you, kako Marcel.
Your work will continue to be an inspiration to millions more of us for generations to come.

Statement on the occasion of the International Roma Day

Strasbourg, April 8, 2016

The Forum of European Roma Young People (FERYP), an international Roma youth
organization that promotes and advocates for the participation of young Roma at local,
national and international level, marks the celebration of the International Roma Day with
pride and dignity.

In the last decade, the Roma Youth advanced considerably in the field of education and
participation. We have a new generation of young Roma with master and doctoral degrees.

We have also witnessed the raise of more Roma youth organizations, networks and an active
involvement of youngsters in initiatives that aim to increase the participation of young Roma
at local, national and European level. To a certain degree, all these have led to a greater
visibility and recognition of Roma youth on the international agenda.

FERYP continues to support the capacity building of young Roma, strengthen their identity and
promote their participation in public and political life. We aim to have generations of young
Roma who will be leaders to their pursuit.

Today, we celebrate the day with pride for our identity, with commitment for the Roma cause
and dedication to contribute to our societies.

As an organization representing the Roma youth in Europe, we:
- urge the European institutions, the national governments and the local authorities
across Europe to promote and support the participation of Roma youth in order to
achieve their full potential as European citizens; also
- to engage the young Roma in decision-making processes and policy-making;
- encourage the National Youth Councils and other youth structures to involve the
young Roma in their decision-making bodies, activities and enable the space for their
partnership, especially with the Roma youth organizations;
- call for unity among the young Roma in order to join our efforts for a common cause.

On this occasion, FERYP, which will soon celebrate its 20th anniversary, shall continue pursuing
programs and initiatives that bring the Roma youth political participation on the forefront of
the European agenda.

FERYP is committed to continue supporting the youth participation all around Europe.
We are looking forward to adopt at our forthcoming Strategic Networking Meeting in 2016 the new
strategic goals that will represent the new aspirations of our fellows.

Wishing all our members, supporters and friends- persistence and a lot of success and we look
forward to continue our cooperation!
