A conversation with Florian Ingen-Housz, Partner, Altermind! 👉 https://lnkd.in/dpGPp6Z

Florian Ingen-Housz :"The consulting industry suffered because it is not an essential expenditure. In a context where it is necessary to manage operational emergencies, such as store closings, our clients had less of a need to imagine the future, and more a need to concentrate on the present.

However, we quickly noticed that our clients expressed a real need to visualize the post-crisis world, imagine different scenarios for emerging from the crisis, and consider possible post-crisis conditions of the world. Therefore, we quickly regained a good level of business activity because we can provide consulting and support assignments on managing the “world after” to executives.

Because we rely on a community of experts, rather than full-time employees, we can find the right experts at the right time that will be able to provide the right answers to exceptional situations. Now, instead of helping them simply imagine the future, we help them imagine the future in a world that is even more unstable."

Thank you to all of our education partners!

As part of the containment and the Covid-19 plan imposed by the government, we have developed a program that provides software licenses to students at French high schools and fashion schools in order to allow each student to follow Webex courses with their fashion teachers and complete exercises which will be evaluated by the teacher at the end of the school year.

To date, we have issued 6,575 student licenses to 66 schools.

Thank you to all of our education partners!

Thanks to you, the fashion students will be able to easily continue their education.

Watch the video below (in French) for a glimpse into a course on pattern adjustment.

➡️A key opportunity for retailers this year is in working closely with their suppliers.

➡️Even if it is difficult to build any plausible scenarios without being either too optimistic or too pessimistic.

➡️Having flexible suppliers can help in replenishing the best-selling categories, reported as ‘out-of-stock’ categories, which can lead to great selling opportunities for the retailers.

🔑 Key Takeaways

➡️New arrivals are led by summer categories such as summer accessories, t-shirts, and dresses. Surprisingly, swimwear is not among the high level of new arrivals. Is it because retailers are waiting for the travel bans’ lift or have they fully moved the excess swimwear to next year?

➡️Retviews data suggests that the Covid-19 stock share is equal to almost 40% of the total stock of retailers. Among these are high summer and high spring garments that will have to be put on sale. Depending on the retailer, this share is not too high.

Fabio Canali : "Although it is too early to have a complete picture of the impact of this crisis, initial outcomes are certainly negative in terms of turnover. To react quickly and be prepared for what has been defined as the new, post-crisis normal, customers have to overcome two main challenges.

The first is the need to accelerate their digital transformation. Limited mobility, the need to think of new ways to communicate and the continually growing presence of ecommerce requires them to keep pace with these trends in order to maintain a high level of market competitiveness.

The second is a total rethinking of their supply chain. Today many customers are considering nearshoring as a way to respond to the needs of more agile production, oriented to customers’ personalization needs with the aim of better stock management."

ECA: "We are now producing 4,500 gowns per week". Read more 👉 https://bit.ly/3gTf3Ix

In business for more than 70 years, ECA is a family-run firm specialized in aftermarket vehicle upholstery and car mat manufacturing.

With approximately 140 employees and more than 60 years of experience, ECA monitors and controls the production process from the development, over the confection to the finishing of the car interior.

ECA : "We began by producing medical gowns. In the first week, we produced 1,000. We saw that our stitching machines were not able to make the gowns efficiently, so we immediately decided to buy 27 new stitching machines. As a result, we are now producing 4,500 gowns per week. After this, we decided to make masks."

What brands need to follow up to get through the crisis. Read the Retviews Report 👉https://bit.ly/2XwIpU2

🔑 Key Takeaways

➡️Two teams have been highlighted since the beginning of the crisis. This trend has been observed all along the lockdown period but is also a yearly trend. H&M has reduced its number of articles in promotion compared to last year, while Zara has done the opposite. However, the number one retailer in the world still has a lower share of discounted articles compared to the Swedish mogul.

➡️Retailers that have increased their number of discounted articles have done it with a lower average discount rate than last year . Is this proof that strategies like Black Friday are the ones that payout the most?

➡️Prices on average have increased for H&M and Mango, while for Zara and Uniqlo, a decrease can be observed. Is it due to an alignment of prices or a strategy to win as much margin as possible?

Antonio Franceschini, Secretary General of CNA Federmoda, shares the lessons he has taken away from the Covid-19 crisis:

“Commitment and reputation will increasingly be strategic factors; most likely we will see more social-oriented generations. Therefore conveying messages of values combined with concepts like Made in Italy, quality combined with creativity, strong territorial roots and work ethic will be very important.

I don’t expect that this emergency will have tangible long term effects on our relationships or way of being. Over the next few months, we will certainly be engaged in constructing very different scenarios but eventually we will return to established patterns.”

Dr Gjoko Muratovski, Director of the Ullman School of Design University of Cincinnati, shares the lessons he has taken away from the Covid-19 crisis:

“At the drop of a hat, we had to all of a sudden reinvent how we teach.
This has been very painful for both the faculty and the students.
But at the same time, we also learned a lot going through this process.
What I have personally learned during this period is that decisive leadership is the best way forward in a state of crisis.
When everything is falling apart, a good leader must project a sense of confidence and reassurance that the organization will prevail.
Otherwise, the entire organization could fall apart.”

PAULO VAZ, Business Areas Director at AEP (Portuguese Business Association, Chamber of Commerce and Industry), shares his thoughts on what the post-Covid-19 fashion industry will look like in our new interview series: A Conversation With..

“We won’t get back to the old normal quickly. We will probably never go back to the old normal; we should build a new normal after this extreme crisis.
A new paradigm will be created based on digitalization, reshoring (local supply chain production) and sustainability.
Technical textiles will be a greater opportunity for the future and many companies will face this challenge.
A new trend will emerge: technical textiles are going to integrate fashion in the same way that they inspired a revolution in sports during the last two decades.
The economic recovery will slow down much more than expected and we will need to rethink the whole textile and fashion industry post-Covid-19.
For the moment, it’s very difficult to predict what we’ll get in the near future but it’ll be very different from what we knew in the recent past.
That’s simultaneously scary and thrilling!”

Katia Cahen, Lectra’s Marketing Intelligence Director, shares her thoughts on what the post-Covid-19 fashion industry will look like in our new interview series The day after tomorrow.

“The true challenge for the fashion industry will be the successful transformation from an outdated, weakened and value-destroying supply chain into a purpose-driven demand chain.

Covid-19 might be seen as the shock the industry needed to reset, reshape and unlock value at each step of the value chain: design, product development, sourcing, production, logistics, and retail.

Companies will need to rethink organizational structures and hierarchical relationships for more agility and transparency, scale up new approaches around the pull model, produce seasonless design, and provide in-season retail which means shorter creative and production processes in a more integrated and local demand chain.”
