#LoveMeansWalangIwanan: Remember Jeffrey Tingue? 💭 He is one of the deserving Gawad Kalinga Football players who through your generosity and empathy had been sent to Munich, Germany for the FC Bayern Trophy two years ago. 🏆

Today, Jepoy is a proud Aquinas School Varsity Scholar. He recently shared with us his struggles in distance learning and how he has been adapting to the "new normal" in education. As an independent learner, Jepoy confessed that he has difficulty in retaining information. But these challenges fuel his determination to be optimistic and more diligent in his studies.

"Lahat may pag-asa.

Young dreamers like Jepoy are in need of our support. As empowered individuals, let us show them that we can be their source of strength during these uncertain times. 💪

Congratulations Kimberly Evallar 😘

This is Kim and she just finished taking online classes with HEC Paris for a certificate in Inclusive and Social Business.✈️ Instead of flying to France on a sponsored trip, she ended up taking classes online and meeting her professors through the screen of her laptop as they managed classes across different time zones.

The Inclusive and Social Business certificate of HEC Paris talks about the roles of multinational companies and social enterprises in building a more inclusive economy that would benefit society as a whole. With the focus of the course on creating social impact, Kim drew insight from her past and current experiences in learning from SEED Philippines, working for GK Enchanted Farm, and starting her own social enterprise called KapeNatin.

Kim also joined the course with another friend and SEED Philippines graduate, Jaypee. 💻 Together, they shared a laptop as they tuned in to their classes. Aside from learning from their professors, they also heard from invited speakers that included Nobel Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus. Professor Yunus established Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and is recognized for his work in helping the poor through providing loans with terms suitable to them and by teaching them principles of finance.

“We’re very thankful and grateful for HEC Paris and Gawad Kalinga France for giving us the privilege to be part of this program. The time and the energy we spent to take the classes was really worth it. The program gave us additional knowledge. We learned from mentors with different backgrounds and experiences in doing business. Overall, the program sharpened and deepened our own understanding of social entrepreneurship.”🌱

Pour vos cadeaux de Noël 🤶 voici la bonne direction !

Plush and Play Warehouse (260 sqm)
Location: GK Enchanted Farm Social Enterprise Hub, Angat, Bulacan
Scope of work: Design and Build
Status: Phase 1 & 2 Completed, Phase 3 pending
Architect-of-Record: Ar. Howard Lorenzo
Construction cost: Php 3.5M for Phase 1 & 2 (excludes design fee)

A modern take on the industrial factory, the @plushandplay warehouse was designed with function as its top priority. Plush and Play, a local stuffed toy manufacturing company, was established with the initiative of creating more jobs for residents of Gawad Kalinga’s social enterprise hub, GK Enchanted Farm. Having had to fit a production space, a store, and storage in a tiny 50-sqm warehouse, Plush and Play needed a new space in order to increase their capacity and production volume.
This new 260-sqm warehouse is a significant upgrade. Where their old warehouse only fit six sewing machines, the new one could now fit fifteen! Moreover, there is ample space left for pattern making tables, a quality check area, an office, and even a play area to keep the employees’ children busy.
The building was finished in the simplest, most straightforward manner, staying true to the industrial feel with rib type metal roofing that extends down to the walls. Bare concrete is used on most parts of the building, especially the interior. This gives focus to the toy production, which, with their various cloths and fabrics, is what brings all color and character into the space.

GK Enchanted Farm

The name of this craftsman is Clyde, a husband and a father of three. He underwent open-heart surgery not too long ago which essentially limited his employment options and made it hard for him to find another job. But he knew how to make wooden toys and he could work as a craftsman so he made a living out of it.🌤

He created small tricycles, jeeps, and cars, made using parts of felled trees from road widening projects or sustainably farmed wood. Now, he supplies his intricate handmade miniature vehicles to Subida, a local social enterprise and souvenir shop that employs artisans from Negros Occidental and nearby islands.🤗

At home, Clyde recycles plastic and cardboard materials to make toys for his kids as he continuously experiments with his craft. He also frames the paintings of his son as he encourages creativity in his family.🎨 Over the quarantine period, he switched gears and sold sweet desserts to provide for his family.🏠🌳

Like Clyde and so many Dads, it’s a Father’s job, and alongside the Mothers, to put food on the table and to make sure everyone has what they need, including love and support. So today, we would like to honor the Fathers striving to provide for their families. Happy Father’s Day!💛

Yesterday marked our first fruit and vegetable delivery in Metro Manila! 🚚

With organizations and individuals supporting our BayanAnihan initiative we were able to support 18 small scale farmers in Bulacan by sourcing almost a ton of produce from them.

It’s amazing to see how social enterprises like Bukid Fresh and organizations like GK Sipag are thriving with faith in this pandemic. Fully aware of the risk they are taking, they are still exposing themselves out there to serve healthy and fresh fruits and veggies to the city people.

If anyone would like to be a part of this initiative for the farmers, we are now accepting bulk orders for their produce. For orders and inquiries you can email Mia here [email protected]

Pag may tinanim may aanihin.

Since the quarantine started, we encouraged the community that resides inside the GK Enchanted Farm, the GKEF Kapitbahayan, to start growing their food. To this date, they already harvested not once, but twice from what they planted since the quarantine started! Some plants are now blooming and we can’t wait to share with you again the farming journey of our Kapitbahayan soon.

It has always been our mission to encourage more people to be self-sustainable in any way possible. And through this effort, we hope to inspire more to start a self-sustaining lifestyle like our GK Kapitbahayan community.

This month marks our 10th anniversary.
As Kuya Shanon said, we may be celebrating apart and away from the farm, but we find comfort in our firm belief that the Enchanted Farm is not only a place but a movement.

We are excited for years to come where we continue to flourish as a community and grow goodness in everything we do.

Happy 10 enchanted years! 🎉

Just like a seed, SEED students will bloom and flourish. 🌱🌳

“Here at SEED Philippines, it has always been our goal to provide a sustainable food source for Filipino families. As young farming advocates, we believe that the best way to achieve food security is to start within the hearts of the communities where most of the problems are situated.

We recruit students from the communities from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao with the aim of training students that would eventually become leaders for their communities one day. Just like a 'SEED', we want our students to flourish and bloom into agri-entrepreneurs. A generation of farmers that are resilient and ready to face challenges. Just like what we are facing today, with 'Bayanihan Values' at the core of our teaching, we are confident that there will come a day where the next generation will be proud because we did not fail them.

With resiliency and food sustainability as a goal, we in the SEED community will use our gift to participate in this global fight against pandemic effects at least in our food supply by advocating to create a sustainable food source one community at a time.”

"There is deeper poverty than the lack of money. Poverty is the lack of capability and the lack of capability is caused by the lack of basic education and poor health." - Fr. Bienvenido Nebres, GK mission champion and former Ateneo de Manila University President

Happy birthday to our beloved Fr. Ben! Your commitment to the mission has inspired many hearts to continue bridging opportunities to the poorest families within and beyond GK communities. Thank you for setting the bar high and reminding us to work hard to do as well as you. Thank you for not leaving us behind.

"We teach our students to love the land, to love our country better." - Mark Cruz

Official inauguration of the SEED Philippines 2nd School here in Sumilao, Bukidnon

Today we entered a bold new chapter in the journey of SEED PHILIPPINES as we launched our 2nd campus in SUMILAO, BUKIDNON. From this campus shall rise a brave generation of agri-entrepreneurs who will end poverty for themselves, their families, communities, and our country.

Blessed and humbled to take part in this bayanihan effort among the families of San Miguel Corp., the LGU of Sumilao, and Gawad Kalinga.

The end of poverty is in sight. The course has been set and the race to the finish has started.

Xavier another remarquable intern from ITEEM !

A SEED Monday morning is meant to welcome a week of inspiration and honor those who become part of the SEED family.

Today, as another person returns to his roots in France, we are grateful to him because SEED is strengthened by those people whose stay made an inspiration to many. Xavier Delannoy is more than just a French volunteer, he is a brother. A brother who did not only spend his time but made his presence alive with the SEED students. We wish you all the best and have a safe trip back!
