The Ebiil Camp

Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) under the auspices of UNESCO has served as a regional centre to promote Education for International Understanding (EIU) towards a Culture of Peace in Asia and the Pacific region since its establishment in 2000.

They chose the Ebiil Camp as the EIU Best Practices 2011 based on their commitment to the promotion of a Culture of Peace.

Ebiil Society Inc., has provided a summer cultural camp for young people over the past six years. The camp is focused on increasing ethnic pride through cultural knowledge, and learning targets are taught within a cultural practice or ritual by the local community and participating research centers. The camp is located at Ebiil Channel, a marine conservation site in Ngarchelong. It is a protected area that provides a sanctuary for over 60 species of fish and over 200 species of corals important to the Palauan culture and marine diversity

Rock Islands Southern Lagoon

The Rocks Islands were inscribed into the World Heritage for its outstanding universal value in 2012. The abandonment of Rock Island villages in the 17th and 18th centuries AD is an exceptional illustration of the intersection and consequences of climate change, population growth, and subsistence behavior. Additionally, contemporary Palauans originated from ancestral Rock Island settlements and identify with the aesthetic and cultural values of the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon.

Jellyfish Lake

One of the more than 70 marine lakes located in the Rock Islands. It is one of the favorite spots for snorkeling because of the millions of stingless golden fish that migrate horizontally across the lake daily. The isolation of the lake has allowed the species to be substantially different from species at nearby lagoons. It is estimated that the lake is around 12, 000 years old.
