Every Child Is A Gem

This beautiful GEM AMBASSADOR family - the Flanigans - are using their precious GEM of being a family that shares. They are adopting a beautiful little orphan girl from China who has epilepsy. The sales of the t-shirt will go to help this little girl and also aid refugee families in France.

Every child is a gem, regardless of where she was born or what special needs he has. Help us raise adoption funds for a little girl in China who has epilepsy. A portion of proceeds will also go to Every Child Is A Gem, to aid refugee families in France.

Queen Rania: The Syrian refugees I met are experiencing something worse than death

"Because if the world listened to the stories — in Greece, Lebanon, Jordan (the kingdom estimates that there are 1.3 million Syrians now living there) and beyond — more people would feel compelled to act. And small acts of kindness would give way to bigger and bolder ones — which would give way to humane policies to help refugees.

But, first, we all must listen. To the sighs and the screams and the stifled sobs. To the exhausted exhalations and the broken voices. To the prayers and the wretched memories. To the whispered pleas: “All we want is a new chance at life.”

They’re telling us a story — a nonfiction story. Let’s dignify them by listening, and by supporting them in practical and lasting ways."

Queen Rania of Jordan

”All we want is a chance at a new life.”

Recently, a small school of approximately 250 children on the outskirts of Paris swapped their normal lunch meal in the school canteen for a bowl of plain pasta. It's something they do each year on Good Friday. The money that is saved by the difference in ingredient costs for a three course lunch vs a bowl of pasta is then donated to a charity. This year, the adorable children at Notre Dame de l'Assomption in Verrières le Buisson decided to use the money to purchase food to go toward assisting with meals and providing food for the camp in Grande Synthe. Here are a couple of photos of the donations that are being driven up tomorrow to Salam, a wonderful association of volunteers who are preparing meals four times a week for 500 people each time and then serving the meal at camp. This is the second car load to go that the children donated - the first one going a few weeks ago. We are so honoured to be able to take this to Salam and applaud the children at Notre Dame de l'Assomption for their kind and generous gesture.

"The reality of course is we know" - George Clooney

Today, on the 5th anniversary of the Syria conflict, we share a message of hope stemming from a recent meeting with George Clooney and Amal Clooney and three Syrian refugee families now safe in Germany.

The families shared with the Clooney's the terror of fleeing war-ravaged Syria and their hopes for a better future. In turn, George also shared his family’s history of flourishing in America after fleeing Ireland, and Amal her family’s history of leaving war-torn Lebanon for the United Kingdom.

We're honored to have organized this meeting. Share this video if you stand #withSyria, IRC, George, and Amal in making #RefugeesWelcome-- wherever they are.

Refugee Support

YES!! To this man 💕

An audacious and courageous Mayor of Grande-Synthe, Damien Carème. Without the French Government support, without the financing he asked for, he states I am going ahead anyway, I am building this camp, we need to be humanitarian; he states- we are living an incredible moment in human history. Nobody will die of cold in my town.

From food to personal care items, to sandwiches for refugees waiting to board ferries, to lights for dark tents in muddy fields, to coats for those arriving in Paris, your kind donations are making a difference and bring care and kindness to people who were no different to the rest of us and knew a normal life until war ripped their countries apart.

Some of the items we've been able to purchase over the past weeks and give to those in need due to your kind hearts and generous donations :

There are no words to describe the heartache and hardship of those fleeing their homelands in order to stay safe.

Reema and Sonchu have returned from Greece where there is much sadness and despair. So many people who have little more than hope in their hearts, their lives impacted in ways that we can't even begin to imagine.

Whilst in Greece, they were able to assist many people including a Syrian family with a baby born 22 days premature. They've been able to remain in contact with the family as they have made their way through Europe and will hopefully be able to see them again soon.

On one evening, as the people waited in line for hours to board the ferry for Athens, Reema and Sonchu were able to purchase 450 sandwiches due to your generosity and give the sandwiches to hungry folk, many who had not eaten for days.

Whilst they were in Greece, here in France we also made our way back to Grande Synthe with 450 rolls of toilet paper and wind up lights - the joy that something so basic can bring is astonishing.

Here are some of photos of the purchases we've been able to make because of your kind donations, of which some of the items we have been able to deliver (but not limited to the following) include:
-500+ kgs fresh fruit and vegetables
-130 kgs halal chicken
-1500 euros worth of lights from Decathlon
-mega shop at Metro for tea, sugar, tinned beans, rice, tinned tomatoes
-cooking oil, toilet paper, disposable plates, cups, cutlery
- personal hygiene kits
- hundreds of hats and pairs of gloves for men, women and children
-homecooked biryani rice and corn muffins
- boots, blankets, socks.

Whilst we're not a large group - the little we can do makes a difference and lets our vulnerable friends know they haven't been forgotten and there are people who care.

In the coming weeks Reema there will be more trips planned - first up Jordan, back to Greece and more to the north of France and back to Germany.

We're also hoping to be able to help an association on the ground in France by assisting in the costs of the warm meal they provide at Grande Synthe camp and with food packages to those that are currently being housed offsite.

An enormous thank you to all of you for caring enough to share the word and for helping us in making a small difference.

PS - all our travel expenses are being covered personally. We are not touching a cent from donations to cover any expenses. Every cent donated is going to refugees.

Reema and Sonchu have been in Greece this week helping out at the camps and assisting with new arrivals. With the help of the funds we've been raising, they were able to purchase much needed shoes and backpacks. If you've seen the pictures of people fleeing conflict areas, they carry their possessions in garbage bags. We came across the same scene when we were in the welcome centres in Germany - people carried all they had left in plastic bags, their shoes worn through like the soles of little Achmed's (photo previously posted). Shoes and backpacks are much appreciated items and much in demand for those in Greece, walking through Europe and also those living in the mud in France.

ECGEM Refugee Humanitarian Aid

It's been a few days since we've updated here as we've been busy back and forth to camp and collecting new items for the next trip. We were at camp twice in the past ten days, our last trip on Sunday was with two hundred kilos of fresh fruit - apples, bananas and oranges. We also took wind up torches, socks, leggings, underwear, coats, milk, bubbles for the children. The living conditions are worse on each trip - the mud is deeper and thicker - like concrete. As we left on Sunday night the temperatures dropped and by Monday messages came through that a baby has been hospitalized and he had stopped breathing due to hypothermia. He's doing much better now but the cold is hitting and three hundred of the most vulnerable have been moved off site. It still leaves at least 2000 people exposed to the cold. We're heading back again this weekend - trying to fund camp lights to help at night. With no electricity, the only way to get to and from the tents to toilets etc is through the mud with wind up torches.

We're also finalising plans for the trips to Greece and Jordan. Reema and Sonchu will be heading to Greece February 3rd and Reema will also be in camps in Jordan February 27th.

In addition to supplies for Grande Synthe, we're stocking for supplies to go to Greece and Jordan.
