🙊 So many expressions to avoid naming 📢 PERIODS! To better live periods, not be ashamed of them, and stop stigmatizing them let's call them what they are: periods. This is already a big step towards deconstructing the taboo of periods! 🩸💪🏿

🩸 Menstrual Hygiene Day: an opportunity to talk about period poverty. Too many women around the world cannot afford to manage their periods in a dignified and healthy way.
Les sommes dépensées en hygiène pour les menstruations pèsent fortement sur le budget de dizaines de milliers de femmes les plus précaires.
Let's break the period taboo! ✊
For us, everyone should be able to choose how they want to manage their menstrual hygiene. Thus, it is important that everyone has access to information on the subject. It is therefore necessary to break the menstruation taboo and to make all menstruation-related information easy to access. Such taboos are a hindrance to knowledge, and therefore a hindrance to a good menstrual health of menstruating people! ✊

Cup it up - Menstrual Hygiene's cover photo
😀 You probably already know the very first Cup It Up! team composed by the 5 former students who created the project: Alina, Gurtegh, Natia, Muhammad, and Sophie. To this small team was added Kumi, former R&D project manager at Teolab (project partner), who was the company representative in the project.
After the first action in Dakar, Senegal, big changes took place: Kumi took over the project, created the Godogodo association to officially carry the project, and looked for a new team.
👋 Thus, we introduced you to Clémence and Pauline from Les Cupines who joined us temporarily to carry out an action in M'Bour, Senegal last September 2019.
But there is in fact a new dream team behind! 💪🤝
Kumi - President of the Godogodo association - Spokeswoman and Community manager
Manon - Treasurer of the Godogodo association - Health referent
Shay - Secretary of the Godogodo association
Morten - Data Analysis Manager
Tchara - Health referent assistant
Jennifer - Health referent assistant
Stay tuned since we will soon introduce you to this great team! 👂📲

👩🏾 Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner was an American inventor, known for the invention of the sanitary belt.
🩲 In the 1920s-1930s, she invented an elastic belt with a moisture-proof pocket. This invention was revolutionary! It enabled less leakage than the cloth pads that women used at the time. Unfortunately, for discriminatory reasons, it was only many years later (20 or 30 years, difficult to find a reliable source on these figures) that her invention was put on the market (in the 1950s). It was at this time in 1957 that she finally succeeded in patenting her invention. A company had been interested in her invention, but finally changed its mind when learning that she was an Afro-American woman.
In retrospective one could say that the sanitary belt is an ancestor of menstrual pads.
Thank you Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner!! 🙌

Knowledge is power! ✊💪
Informing and raising awareness on the subject of menstruation is essential. We must break the silence around menstruation. Because of this taboo, many people are misinformed about this natural phenomenon. This can result in exclusion, rejection of menstruating people, menstrual hygiene practices that are dangerous to health, psychological effects that devalue, belittle, humiliate, and many other harmful consequences.
But let's stay positive! It is still possible to take action. Let's talk about periods, let's break the silence, and let's get informed! 💬🗨️📖🙋♀️🙋♂️
The Cup It Up! team is doing that. The goal of our project is to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and to promote the use of sustainable menstrual products. We have started to address women, but now we would like to address men, girls and boys. We had recently prepared to go to a secondary school, to speak with girls and boys in the 7th grade, but the current context of the pandemic has forced us to cancel our action. However, our will is still there! We remain motivated to break the taboo of periods!

📢🇬🇧 🤔 What's free flow instinct?
It is a technique that consists of contracting the muscles of the perineum to hold the menstrual flow while waiting to find a toilet. 🚽 No pads, tampons, cups or period panties! 🤗
The objective is to feel the blood flowing into the vagina and to hold it there so that it does not stain your underwear and clothes. Once on the toilet, just relax the muscles and let the blood flow.
Mastering this technique can take time, and also may not be easy or possible to master for some women who may have very heavy periods, or perineas not so vigorous. But for others this method is apparently a rather great revolution. 👌
What about you? What do you think? Have you ever tried it? (Leave a comment.)

🍑 Good to know! 👆
This is probably not big news for most of you, but for those who are wondering: even if you us a cup (located in the vagina) you can actually go to the toilet without any problem!! Yes there are three holes ( very clever system madet by nature)! 😆

💡Awareness of menstrual hygiene
The goal of the project Cup It Up! is to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and promote the use of sustainable periodic protections like the menstrual cup.🍷 During the workshops, we talk about the female genital system, the menstrual cycle🌚, best practice during periods, the use of the menstrual cup, the experience of the first periods according to each participant,... This is a real moment of experiences exchange to free the voices on this taboo.🤝🤗
🐟🌞 M'Bour's fish market!
M'Bour is a town located in the west of Senegal, on the Petite-Côte (little coast) 🌊🌴, about 80 km from Dakar. The main activities of the city are mining, tourism and fishing. The path of our two adventurer, Clémence and Pauline, has therefore necessarily passed through this fish market!!
👭🇸🇳 Clémence and Pauline arrived in M'Bour in Senegal! After a long trip by plane to Dakar, they joined M'Bour by car. They are currently being pampered by the family who welcomes them (rest under the AC and good food)!🍛😋
