'Ashley's War' Details Vital Work Of Female Soldiers In Afghanistan

Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, one of the first interviewees for WIPA has released a new book, Ashley's War: The Untold Story Of A Team Of Women Soldiers On The Special Ops Battlefield. In WIPA's 2010 interview with Gayle we discussed the life of women in Afghanistan before and after the Taliban. In her latest book, Gayle looks at the Afghanistan through the lens of women cultural support teams who worked with US special forces to dialogue with local women. Hear an NPR interview with Gayle here http://www.npr.org/2015/04/28/402561101/ashleys-war-details-vital-work-of-female-soldiers-in-afghanistan

A new book looks at the female soldiers who served alongside elite special operations units in Afghanistan in order to connect with a population that was off-limits to male soldiers: Afghan women.
