ICOM-Disaster Resilient Museums

ICOM-Disaster Resilient Museums The ICOM-Disaster Resilient Museums Committee (ICOM-DRMC) serves museums globally as an effective, inspiring, instrumental, and cooperative interdisciplinary platform about emergency preparedness and disaster response.
(2)

The Disaster Resilient Museums Committee (DRMC) is a new International Committee of the International Council of Museums. Its aim is to promote good practices in disaster planning, mitigation, response and recovery for museums and to assist museum professionals. The Disaster Relief for Museums fund was first created by ICOM to provide assistance to museums damaged by the 2004 tsunami. ICOM has since then extended its mission to include all manmade and natural hazards impacting museums and their staff. ICOM DRMC works closely with other organizations devoted to cultural heritage preservation, including UNESCO, ICOMOS, IFLA, ICA, ICCROM, Disaster Risk Management Standing Committee, and the Blue Shield. The objectives of the DRMC are as follows:
* Collect information on museums impacted by disasters;
* Promote and co-ordinate disaster response when a disaster exceeds national response capacities ;
* Convert the solidarity and offers of assistance of the international museum community into bilateral activities ;
* Broadcast public awareness campaigns in the media ;
* Elaborate long term capacity building of expert knowledge and regional networks.

Who or what has strongly influenced your understanding of the climate crisis? How have you seen the impact of the climate crisis where you live?

All cultural centers, #museums, and historic sites can hold programming and dialogue about the climate crisis, and catalyze action in your own community, country, and together, across the globe. Message relayed via folks in Brasil from the Natinal Museum Excuse my translation. Translation of his message. Message from Prof Paulo Buckup " some initial news: the buildings of the departments of vertebrates, department of botany, main library, pavilion of classrooms, laboratory of archaeology in the stone house, the annes of Alípio de Miranda-Ribeiro, and the annex to the collection of the service of teaching assistance They got hit. The survival of annex alypius de Miranda Ribeiro is important because it contained some collections of invertebrates and dipterologia. The Main Building (Quinta Da Boa Vista Palace) was total loss, with the possible exception of the collection of mollusc material that I could help save thanks to Claudio (technician of the collection) who guided us amid darkness. The officials who took part in the task force of the last few moments are of for courage and dedication, although very little has been achieved. The great losses were the materials of the exhibition and the collections located in the main building: Archive and historical collection, most of the collections entomológicas, Anthropological, collections collections, and crustaceans. The Collection of paleontology and mineralogy may be partially redeemed if work is done after the aftermath. From the collections of vertebrates, the copies of the old exposures that would be incorporated into the new exhibition were lost, but most of the scientific acquis is preserved. This is it. I'm going to take a bath to wash the soot and leftover coal and this miserable smell of fire and destruction. I have hundreds of messages received from all over the world to answer, but I will look at this tomorrow after resting."
