As part of its General Assembly proceedings EBU presented the fourth edition of the “Vision for Equality” Award.
The Award is granted every four years to European organisations, institutions, policy makers, enterprises or individuals in recognition of their commitment and ongoing endeavour in the defence and promotion of the rights and improvement of the living conditions of blind and partially sighted people.
The 2019 award, which consists of a certificate and a piece of art by a visually impaired artist, was given to the Bavarian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted (Bayerischer Blinden- und Sehbehindertenbund e. V, BBSB) for their project “We go to school”, which started in 1993. The project offers information material on visual impairment and sight loss for schools across Bavaria.
The photograph shows Judith Faltl, chairwoman of BBSB, receiving the award from outgoing EBU President Wolfgang Angermann, during the gala dinner on Tuesday 29th October in Rome. The work of art is a bronze sculpture of a dog with wings.

La ONCE abre sus cerca de 64.000 obras digitales a todos los ciegos del mundo

Our President Wolfgang Angermann congratulates our Spanish member ONCE for deciding to share its accessible works through its bibliographic service online. That makes its collection the first in the EU to be at disposal of beneficiaries of the Marrakesh Treaty.
With more than 60.000 top quality accessible works, ONCE has the largest collection in Spanish in the world, including 3000 precious musical sheets in braille. This development is therefore a major step toward making the Marrakesh Treaty a reality for visually impaired persons.
ONCE played a lead role with the World Blind Union (WBU) and EBU during the negotiations at both WIPO and EU level of the Marrakesh Treaty, contributing to making it a ground breaking instrument to facilitate access to accessible works for blind and partially sighted persons. For more information (in Spanish)

The 14th EBU Access Cast is now online! . After our summer holidays Mario, Tanja, Bart and Pawel are back with you and as always, we have quite a lot to say for this month. Bart got himself a new pair of Bose frames which represent the alternative to the well-known aftershockz boan conduction headset, and he shared his Short Review on them. Mario also bought a new tuner for string instruments, called Roadie Bass. The tuner is very accessible for partially sighted community as well as blind musicians, because the end user is able to make all the presets thru an app on the phone, and then sync all the settings with the tuner via bluetooth. And lots more in the news section!
