For the first time in an FfD Forum, persons with disabilities have five explicit references included in areas of inclusive infrastructure, disability-led businesses, access to markets at all levels, underrepresentation in STEM education and jobs, and disaggregation of disability data to achieve the 2030 Agenda. WBU CEO, Mr. Jose Viera who is also the permanent representative of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities was a lead discussant at the Forum. https://www.cbm.org/news/blog/blogs/blogs-2019/growing-partnerships-and-inclusion-in-financing-for-development/?platform=hootsuite

"The voting stations in my area are in schools, which still have a few steps. Since I cannot overcome them alone, I often vote in advance in the town hall. At least, we have alternative methods of voting in Lithuania.

Schools were renovated this year so maybe next time I can vote in the local voting stations. We will see... if not, I will do as before."

The Inclusive Mobility Alliance (in which EBU participates) was officially launched on the 22nd of January 2019 at the European
Parliament. Gathering more than 20 organisations with expertise in Disability, Youth and Higher Education,
the Alliance aims at making Erasmus+ more inclusive. Students and young people taking part in Erasmus+
mobilities represent respectively approx. 0.17% and 2.8% of all beneficiaries. These low figures have been
stagnating for the past 10 years and are the main reasons behind the creation of the Inclusive Mobility
Alliance. Read the full press release; https://www.esn.org/sites/default/files/news/press_release_0.pdf The picture is a group photo of participants in the event.

RNIB has recently published a new version of the Sight Loss Data Tool with some new indicators and in a new format. It give everyone access to the latest information for better planning and service delivery across the eye health and sight loss sector.

This is a free to use tool which contains a wide range of eye health and sight loss statistics and different modelled estimates. Although it is based on the UK population, I regularly hear from overseas sight loss organisations who want to produce similar statistics to support their own work. Most recently, we’ve supported the Association of French Optometrists replicate the figures to support a national service review.

The tool can be downloaded from www.rnib.org.uk/datatool and you can find out more information on the update from the webpage.

The sixth EBU Access Cast is now online!
Welcome to the 6th episode of the EBU Access Cast. As this is our last episode before we go on the short vacation, we would like to wish you all the best for the upcoming holidays, and that Mr Santa brings to you a bunch of the assistive tech devices and gadgets under the Christmas tree. Jakob and Mario are recommending a few gadgets to purchase for the Christmas, and for the end of the podcast Mario shared the audio tip for Android users how to turn off Picture in picture mode which can be a litle frustrating when Android is being used from the blindness prospective. http://ebuaccesscast.libsyn.com/ebu-access-cast-06

The new EBU document 'Good practices on blind and partially-sighted persons’ employment in Europe' is now available. We know that economic levels, legislation and awareness of visual impairment are very different within EBU’s member countries, but we are convinced that good practice which is demonstrated in one country can be used to help shape good practice in other countries too. That is the aim of this brochure. Translations of the document are available in Czech, French, Italian, German, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish and Turkish on our website

The European Union ratifies the treaty of Marrakech!

A Treaty that guarantees the adaptation and cross-border exchange of books protected by copyright for non-profit uses for the visually impaired. It will increase the number of books accessible both in Europe and in third countries that have ratified the treaty, reducing the famine of books affecting blind people around the world. Currently, ONLY 5 % of all books published in developed countries and less than 1 % in developing countries are produced in accessible formats. EBU / European Blind Union LOW VISION conference is over.
Thank you for the great time, work, location, organization. The biggest thank you is for the great #PEOPLE. Partially Sighted in #Europe are 30 MILION. We were 70 of those, representing 22 of the 44 countries included in the union. We were the small drop that wants to take the responsibility to change the future of who we are and how we live.
Hope to see you all at the next conference.

Panel discussion: Low Vision - not always as straightforward as you think.
Like in a television talk show we discussed in a #very #funny way how it is to live with low vision in association with other conditions (hearing impairment, albinism,...). There is a need for a multidisciplinary approach.
Krister Inde made it so entertaining. And of course Dario Sorgato enjoys to make fun of these topics.
We don't see ... The problem.
