🆘ATTENTION🆘

Several members and non members of FIP are sending FIP messages regarding problems are facing with their indemnity insurance.

As FIP, we are doing our best by asking several insurance brokers, if they can be of assistance for the majority of Podiatrists working in different countries. If you are one of those affected, send us an email on [email protected] (FIP Vice President) and only state if you are interested in an indemnity insurance cover and in which country are you practicing in, so we can go back with some data to our brokers. PLEASE NOTE. FIP WILL NOT SEND ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THE INSURANCE BROKERS. Many of you asked FIP, being the Voice of Podiatry Globally, to help in this matter and FIP will do its best, in its capacity, to help the majority of you. Let us know.

Today we meet another Association member from FIP ....Ireland 🇨🇮

We asked SCPI some questions 😊

When did it all start?

The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists of Ireland (SCPI) is the professional body representing chiropodists/podiatrists in Ireland. The Society was formed in 1978 from the amalgamation of The Irish Association of Chiropodists and the Irish branch of The Society of Chiropodists in the UK. Formerly The Society of Chiropodists, the organisation has added the word Podiatrists to its title to reflect the use of this term throughout the English-speaking world.

What are the main objectives of SCPI?

The main aim of SCPI is to lead podiatry in Ireland; it represents podiatrists working in both the public/private sector. The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists of Ireland promotes the safe delivery of quality foot care to the public.

What are the requirements to graduate?

In order to graduate as a podiatrist in Ireland, you must complete the BSc in Podiatric Medicine offered at the National University of Ireland Galway – this is a 4 year honours degree programme which incorporates a 1000 hours clinical element to the training. The school of Podiatry opened in 2008.

What is the way forward?

Regulation of the chiropody/podiatry profession is becoming more important as legislation requiring statutory registration of a number of health professional groups, including chiropodists/podiatrists, comes into effect in Ireland.

⚠️FIP Scientific committee update⚠️

The Scientific committee of FIP has invited our member organisations to take part in a Delphi panel to develop a consensus document on CPD for podiatrists. What is a Delphi panel? This is a method of research which works with a group of experts in order to reach a consensus on a specific topic in the absence of data. This is an ideal tool for FIP to develop the CPD
guidance for its members

Further details on Delphi Panels and an example can be found below
https://thepsychologist.bps.org.uk/volume-22/edition-7/delphi-method

Although there is considerable variation in how the method is applied, the Delphi method has its own distinct characteristics:

Bonjour 🇫🇷😊 May we present you another member and founder member association of FIP, France 🇫🇷. We had a chat with Christian Jerome (Vice President of FNP) to tell us something about the association.

When it all started?

On March 9, 1935, the first trade union for the profession was created, the aim of which was to register the profession of pedicure as a health profession. It is from this union that in 1955 came the National Federation of Podiatrists. Important achievements have been marked out over these 80 years and definitively inscribe the profession in the public health code, recognizing it an essential role in the French health system. Through its 20 regional unions, the National Federation of Podiatrists, the only representative union, works permanently for the defense and the exercise of all podiatrists at national and international level.

What are the aims of FNP?

The National Federation of Podiatrists (FNP) is the only representative union of the profession which brings together podiatrists who are members of the affiliated regional unions.
Its registered office is located at 57 rue Eugène Carrière - 75018 PARIS. The aim of the National Federation of Podiatrists is to protect and promote the economic and social interests of the profession and as such, it ensures the representation of the profession to the ministries (of Health, Higher Education, etc.). It is the only interlocutor to negotiate the terms of national agreements with the health insurance (CNAM).
The National Federation of Chiropodists acts for the recognition of the profession at European and international level (European Council of Chiropodists, International Federation of Chiropodists).

Tell us something about the structure of FNP board

The FNP is administered by a National Board of Directors made up of 8 members elected for 4 years by the National Council of Regions and assisted by a college of presidents. The National Council of Regions is made up of representatives of regional unions. It meets twice a year to define federal policy and guidelines, implemented by the National Board of Directors.

We present you another FIP members association, The Association of Podiatrists of Malta. We asked Ivan Farrugia(President of APM) some questions about APM.

So, when it all started?

APM was founded in 1999. Although the Podiatry profession initiated in Malta way back in the 1980s, the need for an association was not strong enough to form an association as the number of professionals where very small. But in 1999 , the Maltese Podiatric community tripled and thus by the initiative of Profs Alfred Gatt, our first AGM took place on February 1999.

What are the APM main objectives?

The aims and objectives of the APM are and will always be the standards and their upgrade in the Podiatry profession, both locally and worldwide. As APM we strive to promote the levels of competences for our members and to promote the profession and our association at a national and international level. As APM we emphasize to maintain and renew the Code of Ethics and practice of the profession and this is done by ensuring due observance of the Code of Ethics and practice of the profession by all the members of the association. We make sure to liaise, in an advisory capacity, with health authorities, professional bodies and voluntary organizations, regarding issues related to Podiatry.

What are the requisites to graduate as a Podiatrist in Malta?

Our basic University course is Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Podiatry(240ECTS) But the University of Malta offers more opportunites in MSc and PhD Courses in Podiatry as well https://www.um.edu.mt/courses/overview/UBSCHPODFT-2020-1-O

Your way forward as an association?

Its the only way I guess...forward :) Forward for more rights to us as Podiatrists and professionals. We are continuously working on our pillars, varying from prescription rights to specialising in different areas of Podiatry like surgery and diagnostics. As APM we strongly believe that UNITY is the key for success. Thus the importance of being affiliated and proud members of FIP

We present you one of FIP members association, Verband Deutscher Podologen (VDP) e.V. (www.verband-deutscher-podologen.de) We asked Christine Kuberka-Wiese(delegate)some questions about VDP.

So, when it all started?

VDP was founded in 1994 to clearly show the importance of podiatric treatment and differentiate from Chiropody or Pedicure which are not a registered profession.

Is now Podiatry recognised in Germany?

Yes, Podiatry (Podologie) was registered in 2002 as a health profession regulated by the ministry of health with the Law of Podiatry (Podologen-Gesetz “PodG”) and as an association and team of professionals, we have the honour that we are involved in the drafting of the law.

What are the requisites to graduate as a Podiatrist in Germany?

The basic training takes three thousand hours in theory and practice and can be extended in three years (180 ECTS - European Credit Transfer System Points) with a Bachelor of Podiatric Science.

Your way forward as an association?

We are constantly working hard to develop and enhance our profession in Germany in order to create a unified professional image for Europe, also together with FIP-IFP.

Hello everyone :)

We want to encourage all podiatrists to think about what influences our practice and how to improve. We are asking... what inspires us, what makes us move forward - It is of utmost importance to ensure that we are looking after ourselves so that we can look after our patients better. The following paper is a good reflection, mostly during these last few months about what we need to do for ourselves in order for us to help others better. We would be very interested to know what you think?

Hello everyone :) Some updates from FIP this morning 🌞

We are trying our best to keep this page flowing with loads of information on what's happening in the Podiatry arena around the world 🌎

So on Mondays we are going to share with you some information on our members associations, getting to know the committee, sharing of events each country may or is organising. This will be a great opportunity to learn and share ideas between different countries and cultures.

On Thursdays we will share educational information. We will focus on recent studies from Podiatrists, presenting a variety of studies from different areas of Podiatry from all around the world. But, we will look also for projects/studies that students are doing in their final year of their studies. We believe that students are the future of Podiatry, thus we give them all the opportunities they deserve.

So, you want to be part of this great initiative? Send us a private message and will get back to you at our earliest :)
