World Diabetic Foot Day 2020 will take place on 20 November during EWMA 2020. The European Wound Management Association is offering a platform, namely the EWMA 2020 Conference in London, for the first World Diabetic Foot Day. The aim of this initiative is to bring together different professionals who are involved in the management of the diabetic foot in order to exchange knowledge of best practice and facilitate partnerships between organisations. Interesting article!

Skin Signs of COVID-19” - A group of Australian 🇦🇺 dermatologists have gone through the recent literature and have put together this summary of skin findings associated with COVID-19.

🦠 It is important to note that skin signs can herald an early diagnosis of COVID-19. Skin signs can also occur before respiratory symptoms develop.
.
🦠 “COVID toes” have been widely reported in the media. However, it is not the only skin sign in COVID-19.

The FIP-IFP Scientific Committee presents the COVID-19 advice on podiatric practices

» New COVID-19 Foot Registry Seeks to Understand Impact on Feet

IMPORTANT For all Podiatrists
The COVID-19 Foot Registry is focused on collecting and analyzing data about the effects of COVID-19 on the feet. At the time of this writing, the coronavirus disease is a pandemic that has infected millions taken the lives of many thousands.

This registry relies on the public and physicians to supply information about how the coronavirus is affecting the feet. It was started by Dr. Michael Nirenberg, a podiatrist and its current Director, in mid-April of 2020. Closely assisting with this project is Dr. Marc Brenner, also a podiatrist, who is the Chair of the Advisory Board. Other notable physicians have become involved, serving on the Advisory Board.

The expectation is that information will be learned from the data collected that may help in the treatment of COVID-19, as well in potentially recognizing early signs of the virus, possibly present before other symptoms are present. Additionally, this knowledge may become useful in addressing future viral disease outbreaks or recurrent COVID-type occurrences.

They appreciate the assistance of physicians, podiatrists, dermatologists and other healthcare personnel, and even members of the public who have contributed to the Registry.

SPECIAL COMMUNICATION: All Feet On Deck—The Role of Podiatry During the COVID-19 Pandemic

» COVID-19

Dear FIP-IFP Colleagues and Friends,
It has become increasingly evident that the outbreak of Coronavirus is affecting us all and presents the greatest challenge that most of us will have faced in our lives and professional careers.
As a truly global organisation, this challenge is felt by FIP-IFP members all over the world. At this time, we are taking the opportunity to demonstrate our selflessness, compassion and creativity as we unite as healthcare professionals to ensure we emerge together, stronger than ever. We are facing unprecedented short-term challenges but we are also more technically advanced, better connected and more willing to share ideas than we have ever been before.
In the coming days and weeks, it is important that we consider what our roles as healthcare /medical professionals are and show the world how podiatrists are strong professionals that support our healthcare systems.
At FIP-IFP secretariat, we are putting all our efforts into supporting our members through these testing times, and will activate and make use of the latest technology and platforms to deliver information, facilitate knowledge-sharing and allow the continued development of global relationships. We will start soon with webinars/online ‘conference’ to continue to inform and offer high level education.
We are still following closely the current situation and we will by the beginning of April take a formal decision on the next Annual General meeting. The FIP-IFP Board together with the ECP Board has established guidelines regarding the role podiatrists might play (if supported by their respective governments and if individual protection material is available) to keep on given our expertise and knowledge to high risk patients to avoid future dramatical patient outcomes. We created a special webpage with relevant information: www.fip-ifp.org/news/covid-19/
Let’s look after each other and stand together while we are far apart.
Stay well, and I wish you and your families my very best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Christian Jérôme
