RSF demands police protection for Indian journalist receiving death threats | Reporters without borders

#INDIA: Two days after the attempted break-in, which might otherwise have seemed relatively trivial, Neha Dixit revealed on Twitter that she has been getting threatening phone calls for the past five months from people who are clearly spying on her and know exactly where is at any moment.

We urge the Indian police to do everything possible to protect this journalist and to find those responsible for these revolting threats. It would be terrible for press freedom in India and the country’s image abroad if there was another Gauri Lankesh.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls on the Indian security services to make every effort to protect Neha Dixit, a Delhi-based freelance journalist who – after an attempted break-in at her home on the evening of 25 January – revealed that she has been subjected to an extremely targeted campaign...

Myanmar’s military accuse two Rakhine State reporters of criminal libel | Reporters without borders

#MYANMAR: Chief editor of Development Media Group (DMG), a regional news agency, and a DMG reporter are facing possible three-year prison sentences as a result of the lawsuit brought by the military under article 66(d) of Myanmar’s telecommunications law, which criminalizes defamation. This misuse of the defamation law is almost certainly designed solely to intimidate journalists. Such harassment must stop.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemns the criminal libel suit that Myanmar’s armed forces, known as the Tatmadaw, have brought against two journalists over a story about the disappearance of rice from a village in a remote part of western Rakhine State, although the military had every chance to...

Totally disproportionate crackdown on reporters during pro-Navalny demonstrations | Reporters without borders

#RUSSIA: 50 journalists were arbitrarily arrested - The police deliberately targeted certain media, going so far as to cut off a video feed of the demonstrations and to try to enter a private apartment, and in a sign of the totally disproportionate nature of the crackdown, even clearly-identified reporters wearing ‘press’ vests or armbands were held for several hours.
