Accession of #Ukraine as an OIML Member State

The International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML) is delighted to announce that the Ukrainian Parliament has adopted the Law according to which Ukraine ratifies the OIML Convention.

The OIML is therefore honoured to announce the accession of Ukraine as an OIML Member State, and we extend our congratulations to Ukraine for all their efforts and initiatives over the past months to achieve this very successful outcome. This is excellent news both for the OIML and for the entire international legal metrology community.

The formal accession process involved the Governments of both Ukraine and the Republic of France, and the BIML has offered every assistance in facilitating this stage of the process, which marks the end of a long but rewarding path in transitioning from OIML Corresponding Member to Member State.

We are certain that the extensive knowledge, expertise and experience of the numerous Ukrainian experts in the fields of scientific and legal metrology will bring to the Organisation will benefit both the OIML and the international legal metrology community as a whole.

9 June 2021 marks World Accreditation Day – Accreditation: Supporting the implementation of the SDGs (#WAD2021).

World Accreditation Day is a global initiative established by the #IAF and #ILAC to promote the value of accreditation. This year’s theme focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda and promoting the many ways in which accreditation can help meet these goals.

A joint statement released by the Chairs of IAF and ILAC introduces the importance of accreditation in supporting the implementation of the SDGs.

The poster for #WAD2021 is the result of a contest conducted by IAF and ILAC earlier this year.

The BIML is pleased to announce that OIML R 150 “Continuous totalizing automatic weighing instruments of the arched chute type” has just been published on our website https://www.oiml.org/en/publications/recommendations/publication_view?p_type=1&p_status=1.

R 150 was developed by OIML TC 9/SC 2 “Automatic weighing instruments” because the scope of the current OIML R 50 for "continuous totalising automatic weighing instruments" is restricted to a specific technique, since it is only applicable to the so called “beltweigher” types.

There is an interesting article in the July 2016 OIML Bulletin about these instruments: https://www.oiml.org/en/publications/bulletin/past-editions

Laboratory policy: a guide to development and implementation

More than ever, the past year has shown the need for effective testing capacities and related laboratory infrastructure. Today, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (#UNIDO) and the International Network on Quality Infrastructure (#INetQI) have launched a guidance document, "Laboratory Policy: A guide to development and implementation" that promotes good governance in laboratory infrastructure development to help ensure the efficiency, resilience and sustainability of the entire Quality Infrastructure system.

To celebrate the publication of this document, UNIDO invited stakeholders and partners, including the OIML, to participate in a high-level panel discussion to address the need to establish a sustainable, fit-for-purpose and efficient laboratory capability that embodies international best practices.
