Introduction

The health of ecosystems is deteriorating at an unprecedented rate, as human activities are threatening more animal and plant species with extinction than ever before in history.

Although the ills plaguing the planet are well-known and have been documented for a long time, significant actions on a global scale have been slow to be implemented.

Now, more than ever, nature needs us to pay attention to its warning signals. Read more in The Unesco Courier: https://on.unesco.org/36bVwyQ #ForNature

Will the pre-crisis Generation Z become the sacrificed generation? It’s not clear. Although it is too early to predict the effects of the pandemic on the lives of the very young, it is already apparent that – in spite of the constraints imposed by life under the crisis – they are showing real resilience. Everywhere, they have started initiatives aimed at providing responses to the crisis – dealing with the emergency, fighting misinformation, and joining together in solidarity.

Who profits from ethnic labels?

Ethnic motifs are very much in style. Revived by designers and major brands, they adorn fashion items sold all over the world – often without the permission of the communities from which they originate. The author, a Mexican anthropologist who specializes in traditional textiles, advocates taking better account of the rights and interests of indigenous communities.

#COVID-19 has brought large parts of the culture sector to a grinding halt.

The genre, arguably South Korea’s most successful cultural export, has continued to grow steadily as millions of youth across the globe have turned to it as a cure for the pandemic blues.

That’s how much the global film industry reportedly lost in March 2020 alone. With #COVID19 having brought the industry to its knees, a number of cinemas risk never opening again.

We invite you to reminisce about the cinema experience through photographer Stephan Zaubitzer’s portraits of cinema theaters – a world away from the sameness of multiplexes.

Conspiracy theories: Linked to literature

Do you know what many of the biggest conspiracy theories have in common?

They have all been inspired by literature.

Literary plots have long been connected to conspiracy theories, which are, in essence, acts of the imagination. But these fictitious notions – often created under the guise of making sense of the world around us – can sometimes have very real, even tragic, consequences on our lives.

Our first activities regarding Global Warming and Climate Changes, in the year of 2006. Basic activities regarding global warming. These activities are related to global warming through two paintings of the students on the board. The paintings show the situation of the Earth before the pollution and after the pollution. On the right side painting the atmosphere is clean, when the sun shines, the earth gets warm, but the heat gets out of atmosphere. On the left side painting, the atmosphere is polluted, when the sun shines, the earth gets warm but its warmth can’t get out of atmosphere for the reason of pollutants, the heat is trapped in the layers of pollution of the atmosphere, that is why the earth gradually gets warm. The name of this phenomena is called: Global Warming. Mostafa Eil The manager of educational program
Behind the scenes on the Greek Islands. Have you been to Greece and seen the animals running around. Ever wonder who they belong to or who looks after them. The truth is not nice, not pleasant and truly barbaric. The truth is the Greek parliament would rather death, disease and attacks than let these animals be re-homed. This has too stop......... Why? Governance: It appears that the Municipality and Beaurocracy in Greece wants to detain these animals and would rather kill them than allow them to move to a real home. ALL shelters are now full, unable to take in more strays. The centers care for the dogs and cats, feed them, give them medical attention and re-home them to home all over the world. Most of these centers are run entirely by volunteers with no government backing whatsoever. There are now literally hundreds of adopted animals ready to go to new homes, but the powers that be refuse to allow them to leave, or issue the relevant permits required. Why?: Because of a barbaric and archaic belief that an animal born in Greece should die in Greece. The Greek government and regional mayors believe that an animal is better to suffer all its life, starve, beaten, shot or poisoned rather than be allowed to leave the island and go to a loving home. This is not just the Story of Josie, a dog I adopted in December and who has spent her entire life thus far in a cage. Thankfully, the staff at the Rescue Centre are fantastic, good people but they are unable to take in more strays now as they and all the centers are being bullied and tied up in red tape, unable to move the animals at all. Treatment: As mentioned the shelters are completely charitable with no government funding, much of the money for food etc comes from the volunteers own pockets, donations and charity events. And since Brexit we are now unable to send food parcels in their direction. Those pets that are going to go to an adoptive home have to have a passport , microchip and vaccinations. These are paid for generally by the adoptive family – NOT the Greek government, it costs them NOTHING…….. Fake News: So I believe the latest bit of fake news that the Greek politicians have chosen to believe is that the reason we want to recue these dogs is so they can be used in the production of Collagen. Where is the proof? They have not even looked at the families who have applied for adoption? They have never even visited the countries and seen how animals are treated here? Tourism: Tourists are becoming more and more aware of this situation with the strays and their ‘method’ of dealing with it. How long will people continue to come to a country that treats its animals like this. I believe tourism is their biggest industry. It surprises me that they want to run the risk of jeopardizing that. Dog Attacks: Here are just a few examples of people being attacked, even killed by packs of dogs because they are starving, beaten, poisoned. This not only happens to tourists, but the locals also. Pete Bucktrout – Athens – May 2014 Attacked by a pack of starving strays Celia Hollingworth – Maroneia – September 2017 Mauled to DEATH by pack of dogs Locals – April 2020 String of attacks in Seich Sou forest Disease: So, we have established that poisoning appears to be the preferred method of population control with the dogs, some dogs may die quickly – most will try and find somewhere to hide to die, do they have people collecting the carcasses and incinerating them? No. Leptospirosis Tularemia Botulism Rabies Norovirus These are just a few of the diseases a rotting animal may contain, now lets say a poisoned dog hides under a porch to die, after it dies the flies and maggots come, carrying this disease into the house and to food, family, children. APPARENTLY ITS OKAY TO RUN THE RISK OF DISEASE....... Vermin: A dead animal will also serve as food for rats, mice, insects and other animals. Bringing with them their own issues. THE SOLUTION: Issue the required certificates / documents, allow the animals to travel to their new homes, to free up space in the shelters and allow them to continue to do their amazing work. This situation is going unresolved and it appears that no one cares or has the guts to challenge what is happening. I have been in contact with Greek Government, British Consulate, British Embasy, RSPCA, DEFRA, European Comission, Greek Municipalities, News papers, media etc etc and to date contacted over 200 associated government agencies, charities etc. Total responses to date = 2 Totally ignored But, I won't stop.... These dogs are not only destined for UK but all over Europe. All those families waiting, all those children (like mine) questioning why is their pet not coming home, did they do something wrong? Please help me to get this out there, spoken about and resolved there is a petition on change.org with over 10,000 signatures being ignored. This cannot continue..... This dog was found poisoned last weekend, one of many to be killed daily rather than re-homed.
