"Behind the Indian Boom" è un viaggio nelle più remote regioni dell'India, per fotografare le condizioni delle sue comunità più svantaggiate - quella dei Dalit e degli Adivasi - storicamente stigmatizzate come "intoccabili" e selvagge" : per documentare il ruolo che esse svolgono all'interno dell'economia indiana e più in generale a livello globale.

With Just Sickles And Sticks, Adivasi Women Save A Forest

Hakim Sinan village, Ranibandh Block, Bankura District, West Bengal:

It was getting dark in the forest. At a distance, light was gleaming from oil lamps in the village.

“Did you breastfeed these Saal trees? Why are you stopping us from cutting them down?” growled the poachers.

“How can you breastfeed your own mother?” retorted the resolute Adivasi women.

Forests provide the tribes with fuelwood, leaves, herbs, fruits and honey. It is also the abode of many Gods and Goddesses. In fact, Santhals are proudly the forest people. The isolated Hakim Sinan village in Bankura district of West Bengal is an embodiment of this relationship of tribal communities with the forest. For Adivasi women, this bond is even stronger; the forest nurtures the community like a mother.

The news of Adivasi women standing up to powerful poachers spread like forest fire. The women also repeatedly engaged with the Forest Ranger. An official meeting was arranged between them and forest officers. All poachers were subsequently arrested. Each one of them was fined ₹5,000. Illegal logging of trees in the vicinity of Hakim Sinan village and beyond has abated.

Duppata, l'Inde autrement. Femmes du Hazaribagh

Bhelwara - a painters village
Well, reading this very old post of November 6th, 2013 it is hard to believe what Justin and his wife Alka have achieved in reviving the art in Oriya in particular and twenty other villages with aid from Femmes du Hazaribagh in France an organization with presence on Facebook (please look it up) and the number of forty out of hundred houses is painted with Sohrai wall paintings in the same Oriya village today without government assistance. In 2013 four years back onlyFour out of hundred houses were painted with Sohra imurals! I may observe Chanakya/ Kautilya's advice in the Arthashastra twenty-threee centuries back that a nation (in his case the Mauryas) must not depend upon the State for the continuance of the Little Traditions but has to depend on the populace of the country itself. (Bulu Imam 01st November, 2017)
Beautiful and marvelous tribal wall painting using natral colour.
Thank you
All resolved, please continue with my good wishes for your success keeping in mind all women's feelings and dues for a better treatment that you are looking to help them with.
