The great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is happening today. The two largest planets in our solar system will appear very close to one another as if they were overlapping to create a double planet.

You might have already seen the Google Doodle illustrating this unique event. But how to witness it in the sky?

Petra Rudolf compiled a few options for you: for people who can't head outside for the event, the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, will host a YouTube live stream of views through its telescopes starting at 7 p.m. ET on https://lowell.edu/the-great-conjunction/. In Rome, the Virtual Telescope Project https://www.virtualtelescope.eu/ also plans to share live views of the conjunction.

If you always wanted to use LaTeX in preparation of scientific articles, but never knew where to begin, check the workshop from EPS Kharkiv Young Minds Section. The section is collecting feedback on the language of the workshop (see the links in the original post), so be sure to choose the one that is convenient for you 😉

We’re glad to announce professional development workshop “Using LaTeX in preparation of scientific articles and more!” that will take place online on January 9, 2pm-5pm. It’s designed for beginners but will be good also for those who have specific questions. Highly recommended! More details you will find in the registration form below. We have to do it online but we wanted to take advantage of this situation and offer it not only to the members of our section but to anyone interested. This is why we were not certain which language to use in the workshop and you are the ones who will help us to decide. Please, select below the registration form in the language you prefer and complete it by December 11. Thank you!

We all agree that "science is for everyone".

But how can we actually actively contribute to a more inclusive and diverse scientific community?

This, and more, will be discussed in our upcoming webinar featuring Dr. Marina Corradini, advocate for diversity, inclusion and equity within the STEM community and communications officer at the European‑Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

The event will take place on the 11th of November at 5 pm CET.

!!! 🛑 Attention 🛑 !!!

While in the lecture hall the relationship between students and professors usually does not leave much room for discussion, situations in which one has to defend ones own interests and ideas become more and more frequent with advancing career level. A poor level of assertiveness in such situations can be frustrating and decelerating and, eventually, career hindering in both academia and industry.

To equip you with the important skill of getting what you want when you want it the Young Minds project is hosting a dedicated online Zoom workshop. Two slots are scheduled on the 16th of October, one from 10 am to 12 am and the other from 1 pm to 3 pm (CET).

Registration is possible via the EPS website: https://www.eps.org/page/ymworkshop?fbclid=IwAR3W6yEdOOkXAtZ2_3xcGoqNscg6t6tgyutcxJKAo7NIPewwyS9nzik7ess

To ensure that all sections can benefit attendance is limited to one participant per section. In case there will be unoccupied spots, this regulation may be discarded such that more than one member per section is allowed to participate.

We hope to see many of you there.

From its very early days on one of the goals of Young Minds has been to connect scientist and students all over Europe and to create a network of not only scientific but also cultural exchange.

Now, in the midst of the Corona-pandemic, it becomes clearer than ever that this goal has been achieved: As reported in the current newsletter of the European Physical Society the Artsakh Young Minds section has organized several online sessions in which members of other sections talked about the experiences they made within the YM program. Three sessions featured the president of the EPS Cairo Young Minds Section - EPS CYMS, Ahmed Sheet, the Zagreb section, Ana Milinović and the president of Koło Naukowe Optyki i Fotoniki UW - OSA & SPIE & EPS & IEEE Student Chapter, Natalia Kukk.

We are looking very much forward to see to further "section talks" in the future :)
