🚨🐘Hello everybody ,enjoy your monday .... Another excellent news for wild elephants and villagers in West Bengal... NWA India had distribute head lights and others equipments to our ELEPHANT TEAM ... NWA training + distribution of equipment is one of the main key to handle HEC when it happen...NWA work is going ..I wanted to add a personnal comment , to all the people who are just good to share bad news and rumours about wild asian elephants and cry on facebook ,by saying ''nobody do nothing'' ,and there is a lot of this people on social media . To this people ...Before crying , have a look about whats going on on the field , and how volonteers are working hard to protect wild elephants and other wildlife ... Instead to share only bad news , support by sharing ,like , inform your people about this hard word on the people , highlights all those people who are there non stop to protect and conserve wild asian elephants in their natural habitat ...
Well done NWA India

Human activity stops where the light is gone. Light is an essential tool to combat HEC. Crop depradation during night time is a serious threat to the fringe dwellers where the conflict is the most. Light is an important tool to keep elephants away from the crop fields which are the soul source of income for many fringe dwellers especially at night.

NWA started to distributing lights to fringe dwellers to act on dark & combats upcoming paddy season... Tukuriajhar Range-Kurseong Division, West Bengal.

Did you know asian elephants ( Elephas Maximus ) and african elephants ( Loxodonta Africana ) have very different behaviour? Also their diet is quite different, since it depends on the surrounding environment.

Dealing with such intelligent creatures is not easy and experience cannot be acquired in a classroom.

Alternative cropping a poor guideline for HEC mitigation - NWA Nature & Wildlife Foundation

https://www.naturewildlifeassoc.org/alternative-cropping-a-poor-guideline-for-hec-mitigation/

A recommended HEC mitigation practice along forest fringes, using crop species that wild elephants find inedible, is misconceived and counter-productive, NWA field studies show. Alternative cropping is among HEC management guidelines recommended by conservation authorities in some countries (http://...

Do India’s Elephants Really Need Birth Control?

what is possibly needed is a one-shot contraceptive that takes out one birth cycle. As development and proper evaluation of takes a lot of time, it is right to start with development now. Just look at Thailand now; wild populations have increased from 2000 to over 5000 and the annual growth rate is 7-8%, that would mean that there will be 20000 wild elephants Thailand in 2039. Frankly, there is not enough suitable habitat to support them in Thailand. Not preparing for birth control will, therefore, lead to culling, something that we definitely do not want to see.

A pilot project to reduce India’s elephant population may soon be rolled out, and many wildlife experts are concerned.

Our Story

Nature & wildlife is currently developing Jumbo elephant photo ID a software that helps to identify individual elephants. We are also setting up a central data base for wild elephants worldwide using data collected with Jumbo elephant photo ID. This data can be used by scientists, NGO's and for wildlife management. Population numbers, migration patterns and HEC mitigation are just a few applications. The application will be ready (in Beta) by end of November 2016.

Nature & Wildlife Association is also heavyly involved in Human Elephant Conflict mitigation in Thailand, Malaysia and India as well as an adviser to various NGO’s and authorities from all 13 Asian Elephant range countries
