We would like to introduce today's new arrival Concinnity / Connor to his friends.
He is 31 years old and has come into our care at the request of his owner so that he can enjoy the company of other horses whilst being financially supported by his owner.
Sadly his active history in racing and endurance has lead to arthritis in his hind legs but he's still a happy boy.
Merry Christmas everyone.

We would like to introduce Barbara :)
As many of you know Mrs Barbara Bailey bequeathed her 3 equines to our rescue along with a financial donation. We spoke with her daughter Vivienne and decided to purchase a 2 horse lorry with her mother's funds
Barbara is going to have a lung transplant (air filter) liver transplant (oil filter) kidney transplant ( fuel filter) varicose veins stripped ( new hoses) and a blood transfusion (oil change) and eventually have a face lift (New decals/stickers) ;)
On Monday evening we attended a meeting organised by the Gendarmerie of the Charente.
The meeting was held outside to met the current social distancing requirements. We were invited to attend by the Gendarmerie during a visit to our rescue a week earlier.
The purpose of the meeting was to advise horse owners of the current challenges re horse mutilations and to offer advice and support.
The Advice from the Gendarmerie is as follows:
If you have registered as a detenteur a equide as required by law with the IFCE you will be contacted by your local Gendarmerie very shortly.
It was stated that although there had been over 150 reported cases, all of which are being investigated, it is believed 28 had been caused by a deliberate act, some of the other cases may have been injuries suffered in the field by fencing or accidents rather than caused by a violent act of a stranger.
We were advised that if you see a suspicious vehicle you should take a photo of the vehicle including it's number plate and call 17 to report it. They will then check out the registration and do a follow up as seen appropriate.
If you find a drone or person on your land the first thing you must do is call 17 and ask for assistance. Do not attempt to take the person on as you may get hurt and if you have not called 17 you may lay in the field injured and no one will know you need help.
They advised us not to share photos of cars and number plates on social media as this can cause the sometimes innocent owners of these vehicles to get hurt by those taking the law into their own hands. Call 17 as they will investigate.
If you find your horse injured call your vet first and then 17. Try to preserve the scene as much as possible, lots of people moving around the scene could disturb vital evidence.
If you find your horse dead in the field do not move it, try to not touch or move anything as there maybe evidence that can help catch those responsible. CALL 17.
Do not leave ropes, headcollars etc out as they could be used by a stranger.
Keep your water buckets/containers/baths away from the boundary of your fields as they could be poisoned.
Lock gates and doors. Make sure your petrol and diesel cans are put in a secure place so the fuel cannot be stolen.
If you have a surveillance camera put it up but please bear in mind it is illegal to film a public right of way or your neighbour's land.
Movement detector lights are seen as a useful tool.
Dogs or geese are great alarms.
Check your horses often but try to do it at different times rather than routine times.
Keep parked vehicles locked.
There is a dedicated green number for you to call if you need advice, are scared or worried. The number is 0800738908.
If you are going to be away from home, tell your neighbours, tell your local gendermerie and they will visit your premises whilst you are away.
You can also ask your local gendarmerie to come and give you advice on how to increase security.
Protect yourself and your horses by calling 17 if there is a problem. Sharing on the internet can cause copycat crimes.
The Gendarmerie are here to help you stay safe. CALL 17.
Stay safe everyone ###x
We are attending an information sharing meeting by invitation of the Gendarmerie with whom we work alongside to prevent cruelty.
As many of you know, Cloud was having issues with eating when he arrived. We adapted his feed to a mash until he could be seen by our dentist.
Floris Van Aubel visited yesterday afternoon and very quickly discovered that the problem was a broken loose tooth. Floris removed the tooth and Cloud was much more comfortable and enjoying his breakfast this morning.

Julie and I set up the window display at our bank ,Credit Mutuel in Confolens (next to Lidls) this morning. The photos are not very clear as there is a coating on the windows that stops photos. If you visit Confolens please have a look at our display.
Earlier this month we were contacted by Dr Vivienne Bailey.
Her Mother Mrs Barbara Bailey 8/9/1926 - 13/7/2020 had passed away and left her 3 beautiful equines, a financial donation and her well maintained horse trailer to our charity.
It is her wish that the equines stay under our care.
We visited the horses on Saturday at their home in Brittany, arranged their transport and they arrived here yesterday via Taxi a cheval.

A couple of weeks ago we were contacted by Ark79 asking if they could come and visit us later in the week. The visit took place and they asked lots of questions about what we do and how we do it. They visited all of the animals in our care and spoke to some of our volunteers. After the visit which lasted approx 2 hours they returned to Ark and put their findings to the committee. We were later contacted and they asked how they could help us We asked for help purchasing feed and bedding for the horses and pigs in our care. Just one of the reasons we need your donations. On the 16th of May 2017 we received several calls from our local state vet asking for our help in the seizure of several animals to include horses, sheep, pigs, dogs, cats and a donkey. This was to be our first placement of animals from the courts. After several discussions re payment for their care we were assured that we would be paid for their transport, boarding and care including veterinary fees from the moment they are placed with us, until the final judgement by the courts. We were told to expect a holding time of approximately 3 months before the court would hear the case and that payment would be made via the courts one month after the judgement. We agreed that we would be able to accommodate the 5 horses, one donkey a small flock of sheep, up to 10 pigs and possibly one dog but could not accommodate cats. The state vet assured us that we would not be out of pocket with regards to the placement of the animals but we would not be able to make any announcements about the seized animals until after the judgement had been made by the courts in approx 3 months time. During the 3rd week of June 2017 we were asked to be on standby for the 26th of June 2017. We needed to be ready to respond with transport for the animals from 8am in the morning, to attend an address that would be given to us during the phone call once they had established exact location of the animals in need. The location would be no further than an hour away. Several supporters agreed to help with their horse trailers and horsebox. On the 26th of June we were ready and waiting. We received a phone call at 8.30am to give us the mobile telephone number that was being used for that day and to check we were ready to attend. A further telephone call was received at 10.30 am to state that there were no animals at the first address. They would be attending another address after lunch and still needed us to be on standby. At 4.30 pm we received a telephone
