Did you know that SPRINT Senior Care is a key participant in the City of Toronto's Vaccine Equity Transportation Plan?

As the lead agency for Toronto Ride, we have been helping seniors get to and from their vaccination appointments throughout the city.

SPRINT Senior Care has a fleet of more than 15 vehicles on the road five days a week, transporting seniors to and from vaccination appointments and other essential locations such as grocery stores.

Bette, a recent transportation client, found her experience quick and efficient.

"Your very personable driver took me for my COVID-19 vaccination today, and returned me safe and sound to my abode," she told us. "Thank you for making this possible and easy!

"Experiencing for myself just how much care and attention your service offers made me realize that I have more options than I had realized as a senior with mobility problems."

With the support of University Health Network and Toronto Paramedic Services, House Calls has successfully initiated its mobile vaccination program!

Over the past nine days, the SPRINT Senior Care and VHA Home HealthCare House Calls team has vaccinated 222 homebound senior patients and their caregivers, right in their own homes. These are seniors with physical, cognitive, and social frailties who are unable to attend a typical vaccination clinic.

This initiative is a pilot project that we hope can be replicated in other communities throughout Ontario to ensure all homebound individuals receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Looking for a new read? Check out this timely new book, Neglected No More by Globe and Mail health columnist Andre Picard, which includes an interview with our CEO and one of our fantastic PSWs. They discuss aging at home as a viable alternative to long-term care, and profile our Supportive Housing program, which brings 24/7 care directly to seniors' apartment buildings. In the book, Picard addresses existing issues in our health care system and lays out what we can do to improve senior care.
