Travel Media Association of Canada

Travel Media Association of Canada TMAC is a Canadian not-for-profit association serving industry and media travel professionals. We cultivate relationships that result in relevant connections, comprehensive opportunities and successful outcomes.
(1)

Founded in 1994, TMAC represents Canada’s most professional and productive experts in the field of travel. The Association currently has almost 400 members — Canadian writers, photographers, videographers, bloggers and social media mavens, as well as highly respected representatives of the travel industry from around the world. Our membership is well represented across Canada and supports four regional chapters: British Columbia, Alberta & NWT, Ontario and Atlantic. TMAC is currently working on furthering its regional chapter representation, specifically developing a Quebec chapter. Each year, TMAC members gather for an ambitious and wide-ranging annual conference to exchange story ideas, explore new destinations and keep up to date on skills, trends and techniques. Most importantly, industry partners are able to showcase their destinations at the Media Marketplace, a scheduled one-on-one networking session that brings together industry and media members. Throughout the year, each chapter holds a series of local events, activities, presentations and professional development sessions attended by both media and industry members.

Mission: TMAC is a Canadian not-for-profit association serving industry and media travel professionals. We cultivate relationships that result in relevant connections, comprehensive opportunities and successful outcomes. As an organization, we strive for inclusivity, openness and forward-thinking in the ever-changing travel industry environment.

My brand new car CRV 2018 was scratched at Hilton Garden Inn Toronto Downtown hotel. I paid $48 for parking one night from May 16 to May 17, and gave my car to a valet person. The Front Office Manager Kalee Mah denied the Damage took place on their hotel, and their policy is “Car is accepted for parking only. We assume no liability for fire, theft or damage in any case.” Please see the picture below. The office of Mr. JONATHAN W. WITTER (Hilton Chief Customer Officer) also used this policy to answer my request. I never saw this note when I booked and lived this hotel. I hope you will see this note before you book this hotel, or park your car in this hotel. Think about this scenario that you give your car to a valet, and the person drive this car to another place. The hotel has no liability for your car lose.

Hey guys - wanna share this re Airbnb woes - anyone else got any horror stories. I am now on a mission from god. Dear “Marketplace” Producers: Thank you for your expose of Airbnb on your CBC “Marketplace” show that aired on Friday March 22. I am a long-time travel writer who has mostly had positive experiences with Airbnb over the years until a recent trip to Aruba (February 23 – March 2). My dissatisfaction with both the quality of their communications with me and the lack of action on their part in resolving the case has prompted me to write an article about Airbnb woes and I have been fact-gathering to discover the experiences of many other unhappy Airbnb clients. Sadly, I find there are a multitude out there. To keep things as brief as possible: January 31, 2019 – booked a lovely Aruba property with “Michelle”. Beautiful property, great price $924.00 Canadian for a week. Half amount due paid. February 13 – 2nd installment paid – now paid in full. February 18 – receive request to change to a larger apartment (not needed) for approximately $171 Canadian more. Had option to refuse. We refused since happy with original choice. February 20 – three days before departure. Reservation cancelled by host. · Offered full refund but would get no refund on flights. Also mentioned a few other properties. None were Superhosts. After this debacle we decided we would only book with Superhost. · Due to limited time there were few properties available. The only decent one we found was smaller than the first, in a much less convenient location and significantly more money. · We were offered – for our inconvenience $92.40. I felt that was not even close so spoke with a staffer named Levi. He eventually got back to me and said they would credit us $185 Canadian. · I was unhappy with this but paid for the new place. The difference – even with this credit – was $789.97 February 22 – I publicized my unhappiness with Airbnb on Facebook. Heard back that there would be a dedicated case manager named Careen on February 24 offering to help. February 24 – I emailed Careen back suggesting that we be refunded or credited the money we were out and that Michelle be banned from listing properties (she has listed several in the area and one review showed some level of fraudulence on her part). No Answer from Careen February 25 – I emailed Careen again. No answer. February 27 – one more email to Careen. No answer. I subsequently gave up until I saw your show and realized that I have options. As a well-respected travel writer I can both publicize this incident via social media and write articles about it. Inspired by you I shall continue my own campaign for justice against Airbnb and will keep you apprised of the result. With warm regards, Mark Stevens [email protected] Past Co-President Travel Media Association of Canada. Mark Stevens Freelance Writer [email protected] www.travelwriteclick.com 416-580-5577
