Teams of eight to twenty volunteers spend a week or more building houses in partnership with families in need of a simple, decent place to live. Itineraries are balanced with plenty of work, rest and free time. Most trips include two or three days of recreational activities that could include cultural tours such as visits to museums and historic sites or outdoor activities such as a safari or hiking. Each GV team is led by an experienced volunteer, trained and supported by Habitat’s staff. GV teams work alongside homeowners and local volunteers
of all backgrounds, races and religions to build a true “global village” of compassion, homes, families, communities and hope! Learning about the host community’s culture, language and social practices as well as developing new
skills, confidence and an awareness of global poverty is often a life-changing experience. The cost of a Global Village trip includes room and board, in-country transportation and travel insurance. The trip fee also includes a donation to the host community’s building efforts and the Global Village program. These expenses are tax deductible.
