“Hello, my name is Thida Tun, and I have been involved in the St. James Town community since January, 2020. I am currently working as an on-call staff at James Town community. My vision for the community is for people to become more connected, caring, and understanding. I would also like to see a spread of awareness regarding self-care and taking care of one’s health and that of others. I feel sad when I see some residents not wearing a mask during this pandemic and talking to each other very closely with no regard to social distancing. I think that all members of the community should love and care about one another through maintaining their health.”

“My name is Raagave and I am one of the Client Engagement Worker at Sherbourne Health and St.James Town Community Corner. I started working with the Corner as a Summer Student to gain experience in social work. My vision for St. James Town Neighborhood is to develop green spaces as it can promote mental and physical health. I believe residents would be more active if there were more green space. Urban green spaces can reduce exposure to air pollutants and excessive heat in the summer. This future development will help protect those who are vulnerable such seniors and residents with health conditions.“

Veterans Day is an annual time to focus the nation’s attention on the people who serve and fight to protect our country and our democracy, and to say sincerely, “Thank you.”
Major Charles Brown has honored us with his presence and has shared with us what he remembers about returning home as a soldier.
To Major Charles Brown, veterans, military, and their families , we say “thank you” and “lest we forget”.

2 city councilors, The 519 call for answers after Black trans woman dies in police custody - CityNews Toronto

“Two city councilors are joining the call for answers after a Black trans woman died last month while in the custody of Toronto police.

Officers were called to an apartment in the Bellamy Road North and Eglinton Avenue East area just before 7 a.m. on Oct. 26, for reports of a break and enter.

According to police, when officers entered the unit they determined there hadn’t been a break and enter but that a person was in crisis. After speaking with the woman officers determined she should be taken to hospital.”

General information

In May 2011, the St. James Town Community Corner at 200 Wellesley opened its doors. “The Corner” is a newly renovated, fully accessible set of offices, meeting spaces, program rooms and community kitchen dedicated to local initiatives and services to benefit the neighborhood. This collaboration between residents, public and private funders and service providers is a unique St. James Town community success story. Operating out of the Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) building, at 200 Wellesley St. E., the facility was formed by a local steering committee after consulting with the community, and it is the result of more than five years of effort by local resident volunteers in partnership with a number of service providers. All are committed to improve access for St. James Town residents to services, supports and opportunities to meet, plan and build a strong, healthy neighborhood.

Hello SJT Community, I represent The New Common at 225 Wellesley. I wanted to say I am super grateful at our partnership in serving our community. This afternoon at 3:30pm, I am gathering some youth from the SJT community and will be playing some games online with some prizes such as gift cards to be won. Would you happen to have any youths contacts from the SJT community I could invite to this? If so please send me a direct message. Hi everyone, I would like to share with you an opportunity to fund your program idea. Every year a “Bright Idea” is chosen to be funded by CNH. This idea should be focused on improving the community. (Usually the funding is in the range of $7-10000.) Past chosen ideas have been: a chess club, aboriginal dance program, dragon boat team and a community bake oven training program. I would like to invite you to our Bright Ideas Symposium where we get together to heard about past successful initiatives from our invited panelists and work in small groups to try to develop the next great one for the community. Anyone can be funded-you do not have to be affiliated to any group or agency. (The funding application is only one page long in order to make it accessible to more individuals.) The event is limited to 40 people. I hope you can come out. It’s a great networking opportunity!
