Its with mixed emotions that we announce the recovery of one of our brothers, Captain Brian Lannon, who never surfaced during a recreational SCUBA dive in the City of Kelowna on May 15th, 2021. Brian was found by a civilian at approximately 730am on June 1st, 2021, after 2 weeks of exhaustive searching by many. While this closure will allow Brian’s family, both at home and at work, to move on to the next steps of the grieving process, we’re still all faced with the realization of Brian being gone. We’d like to thank so many people for all the support over the past 2 weeks. Our brothers and sisters with Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters Association for assisting in the search and opening their arms and doors to us while in #Kelowna. Central Okanagan Search & Rescue and Kelowna RCMP for extending their efforts to bring Brian home. The Salvation Army Kelowna for feeding the searchers with their mobile kitchen. The Canadian Canine Search Corps for coming from #calgary with their highly trained dogs to search where we couldn’t. The City of Kamloops - Municipal Government and Kamloops Fire Rescue for helping our members and Brian’s wife navigate our way through this loss. And Gene and Sandy Ralston, a retired couple from #Idaho, known throughout #NorthAmerica for their ability to find drowning victims at extreme depths to bring closure to families, who dropped everything and drove up at a moments notice when we reached out to them for help. The overwhelming support from everyone kept us going in the most challenging of circumstances, and for that we can’t thank everyone enough. Rest easy Bri, we got it from here. #RIP

Words cannot begin to describe the heartbreak our local is coming to terms with as the tragic loss of Capt. Brian Lannon is confirmed. We, as well as the community lost one of our own, which will take some time to fully grasp.

Brian was a good man with a big heart, who cared deeply for his friends, family, and crew. We're a close knit group who share a special bond, and Brian's presence will surely be missed around the halls. While recovery efforts are ongoing, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the process so far.

Brian would be proud to see how everyone came together in the most challenging of times, and your overwhelming support has helped Brian's family and ours get through a very tough few days. Rest easy Brian. You will be missed.

No one expects to find themselves in an emergency... well, we do, but we’re in a unique position and are constantly training to be prepared for the unexpected. This gives us our best chance to solve the problem and stay safe while doing so. Take some time with your family and develop a plan. Give yourself the best chance you can!

We've been showing you photos of some close calls, and a few big fires here in Kamloops,... but it hasn't been just to get you to "Like" our social media feeds. We want you to see that unfortunately, real emergencies really do happen, right here in #Kamloops every day, to people just like you.

And why are we doing that?

1) Because we need your help, to prevent property damage, serious injury, and even death-- both to you and your family, and to us.

2) Because in the event that an emergency happens to you- we want you to be prepared so that everyone gets out safely.

Please don't put this off. Do it today. The plan you make could save your life tonight.

One thing we take pride in is being part of the community. Kids are often interested in whatever we’re up to, but great job by Captain Wright for turning one of the more mundane parts of the job into an opportunity to connect!

It’s that time of year again! When you change your clocks, don’t forget to check/change/test the batteries in your smoke and CO alarms. They’re proven to save lives and you want them to work when you need them!

Thank you Todd Stone for the touching sentiment. We honour all of our brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and we continue to work with all levels of government to reduce the number of names honoured each year.

Do you know we were a sponsor for the Convoy of Emergency Vehicles that went from Canada to Nicaragua?

Kamloops Fire Fighters is an incredible charity that helps make the community around Leon, Nicaragua safer, by providing emergency vehicles, training, and equipment! It is a privilege to be able to support all that they do.

Congratulations to Chief Fire Prevention Officer Dean Olstad, for 25 years of service (so far!) to the community as a member of Kamloops Fire Rescue. CFPO Olstad started out as a full-time Firefighter at KFR in January of 1995. In 2007 he joined the Fire Prevention Office. He now leads the team at KFR that is responsible for fire prevention and post-fire investigations.

If this year has taught us anything, it’s that working together can get us through the toughest of times. We believe Mahlon will strive for this at the highest level.‬

Something to think about. We’ve come a long way when it comes to our own health with regular turnout gear washing, but don’t forget the helmet!

Gone are the days of looking “cool” with a dirty lid!

When the Doctor calls you with a positive reading for skin cancer, it makes you reflect on the choices you’ve made during your career. The helmet is often the most overlooked piece of equipment when it comes to decon. Do you clean your helmet when you clean the rest of your gear? #themoreyouknow #cancersucks #decon #skincancer #skincancerawareness
